Words I might have ate, chapter 4

The next few weeks were interesting. Things between Evan and Tre seemed to be back to normal and great. Green Day was the buzz of the town and the shows were packed every night and only getting better. Billie Joe and Evan had pretty much stopped talking and started avoiding any time with each other, with the exception of the few excuse me, sorry, thank you, and little small talks. Everything else seemed to be going great even Mike had found himself a steady lady friend. Evan had found out KiKi and Kate had been arrested and put into separate rehab centers only three days after their "reunion". But some really good news had come just yesterday. Green Day was going on a winter tour all across the U.S. doing about 20 shows from Berkley to New York City, hitting about 15 states along the way. They were leaving November 15th after a show at Gilman to head to Oregon to start. To celebrate the big news the guys were planning a big going away party. Needless to say when Tre broke this news to Evan she was overjoyed, but then when he told her the party was next week Evan flipped out.
"Holy Shit Tre! How could you guys plan that so soon! I'm going to have to work my ass off." Evan said nervously.
"I'm sorry babe, but don't worry it'll be worth it. And don't work too much that ass is too pretty to lose." Tre said smiling.
"Oh yeah, thanks." Evan said sarcastically.
Pulling up to the Hickory Pit Mike stopped and turned off the car. Evan started to get out when she noticed Mike wasn't moving.
"What are you doing Mike? Come on." Evan said looking back at Mike.
"EC I need to tell you something." Mike said seriously, looking up and locking eyes with his sister.
"Okay... go ahead." Evan said sitting back down in her seat and pulling her door closed.
Mike sighed," Well, we all need some money for this tour and this party as you know."
"Yeah... " Evan said in a cut to the chase way.
"Well, I know you two aren't really on good terms right now, but I mean he needed a job and so... "
"You got Billie Joe his job back! Mike that's great, as long as we don't have the same shift." Evan said happily.
"Well see that's the problem EC we all have the same shift. So... you guys are going to run into each other more than you like, but please just try not to cut each other throats all the time." Mike replied.
Evan sighed as she pushed her door open and got out, " Fine."
Walking in Evan could already tell business was about to pick up. Making her way to the kitchen she caught a glimpse of Billie Joe before she turned to put on her apron. Clipping her hair up and grabbing her notepad Evan made her way to the dining area to start taking orders. By the time business finally slowed down Evan could barely feel her feet. Mike was locking up now to do his sister a favor. Just as Evan had suspected business had picked up extremely fast. Billie Joe walked out of the kitchen hoping to bump into Evan. He had collected a few insults to stab her with over their shift, but when he walked into the dining area he saw Evan slumped down in a chair with her head propped up on her elbow. He had never seen her this way before. She looked exhausted and run down. Her clip was almost falling out of her hair and her make-up was smudged. But the thing that caught him most was her expression... it looked almost sad. Before when they had worked together Evan always had energy, even after a night like tonight she would always be ready to go and do something else. But tonight... her resemblance was so striking that she looked like... his mother.
Walking over and taking a seat next to Evan Billie Joe set a glass of water down in front of her.
"Billie Joe, I know I suck and I did a horrible job tonight. I don't need you to rub it in my face right now." Evan said blankly.
"Actually, I was coming over here to tell you that you look like hell. Ev's I'm sorry. I'm sick of this not talking bullshit. Can we please just be friends again? I mean it's been a month and look at you Ev's. I saw how those people tipped you today. You deserved more. You can't let yourself get rundown like this. I know you and Tre are together, but you don't have to feel like a housewife or act like one. You're only seventeen Ev's... have fun. Looking at you right now scares me because... I see my mom and I love her, but... I don't want you to look like that." Billie Joe replied.
"Yeah, I know. I guess I just miss my best friend." Evan said looking up with glossy eyes. Billie Joe smiled, " Me too." Pulling Evan up for a hug Billie Joe smiled as he spun her around. God, it was great to have her back. Setting Evan down Billie Joe leaned back to see that Evan had the same goofy smile spread across her face that he did.
"I have so much to tell you... " Billie Joe said, "You see there's this girl I met and... "
"Hey EC Tre's outside waiting for you he said it's important." Mike said walking in and cutting off Billie Joe.
"O-Oh okay, um, BJ we'll talk later okay? But I'm glad I have you back." Evan said looking back at Billie Joe and giving him a hug before she headed off to go outside.
"U-um... right... later." Billie Joe said quietly as he watched her walk off.
"So... I'm guessing that hug wasn't a murder attempt and that you two are okay again?" Mike said walking out of the kitchen.
"Yeah." Billie Joe said smiling slightly.

"Hey Baby, how was work?" Tre said leaning against his car.
"Exhausting." Evan replied as she walked up and gave him a hug, " So... Mike said you had something important to say?"
"Yeah, well I wanted to talk to you about this party. See... well a lot of people are going to be there... " Tre said kind of stalling it seemed.
"Yeah... so? What's so important?" Evan said impatiently.
"Well, it's just. Billie Joe has a new girlfriend and she's going to be there, and I just want you to know that I love you and nothing's going to happen." Tre replied.
"What are you talking about?" Evan said becoming a little confused.
"Well... his new girlfriend is Sammi. So I want you to know you can trust me and I want to make sure that you're going to be okay with it." Tre said nervously.
"Oh... I see." Evan said, " Well I trust you Tre, but that doesn't mean I like the idea of her being around you at all. How long have her and Billie Joe been together and why didn't I know about this?"
"They've been together a few weeks I guess. And you didn't know because you didn't seem like you cared about Billie Joe anymore. " Tre replied," And don't worry I'm going to keep my distance from her."
"I'll always care about Billie Joe. And I'm glad you told me Tre, I trust you. Besides we'll be together most of the time anyway." Evan said smiling as she linked her fingers with Tre's and leaned against him.
