Eternal Emerald, chapter 4
The next day, Steph awoke with the most aching head ache and a hangover she deserved. She couldn’t remember anything let alone where she was.
‘Good Morning’, she heard a voice say.
She rubbed her eyes and started to open them. She was awake in Tre’s lap. This wasn’t right?
‘Oh Tre, I’m sorry I must have fallen asleep’, she murmured trying to figure out why Tre was there instead of Billie Joe. He was the last one she remembered from last night.
‘Oh no its alright. Billie went out to get something and he didn’t want you to wake up alone, so he asked me to stay and take care of you’, Tre told her smiling. She smiled back at him.
‘What time is it?’, she asked closing her eyes again, ‘Aww this head ache hurts like hell’.
‘Its 2 pm and according to Billie, you fell asleep at about 4am’, Tre told her. he brushed her hair from her face. Steph still wasn’t aware of the things around her.
‘Oh and you got a call from your step dad’, he told her. Steph sat up, like a bullet.
‘A call from my step dad. We haven’t spoke in 3 years’, Steph blurted out.
‘Well, he called wanting to talk to you, but you were asleep, so he said he’d be around at about 3’, Tre told her, trying not to get her worked up. He knew how she felt about her stepfather.
‘Tre, he’s gonna be here in an hour. I cant have that’, she said hysterically, getting up and running into her room. Tre followed her, but didn’t make it in on time. The door was slammed. Steph quickly got dressed, and ran back out again.
‘Steph you can relax, he didn’t seem angry or anything. He seemed sort of nice actually’, Tre told her calmly trying to get her to stop freaking out.
‘Tre no, he’s not nice. He wants something if he’s like that. I don’t want him to be here’, Steph said, trying to not show how angry and afraid she was. She walked back into the lounge. She read the clock. It said 2.15.
‘When did Billie say he was gonna be back?’, she asked.
The door flung open.
‘I’m back now. Sit down I have something for you’, he told her enthusiastically walking in. Mike followed.
‘Billie this isn’t a good time’, Steph told him.
‘No this is the perfect time. Just sit down’, Billie told her. She did as he asked and he sat down next to her.
‘Now, you know how much I love you’, he told her. He’s eyes were sparkling.
‘Yeah, I know how much you love me. I love you too’, she told him. Billie picked up her hand.
‘Well that’s why I got you this’. He took out a small jewellery box from his pocket and gave it to her.
‘Billie, no, you shouldn’t have’, she told him. Her eyes, started to glitter. She wondered what might be inside. She shook it gently.
‘Open it’, he told her, looking into her eyes. She did. Inside were the two most gorgeous matching gold rings she had ever seen. On the inside of one it had engraved ‘To my beautiful girl’ and in the other ‘Will remember always’. Steph started to cry.
‘Billie their gorgeous’, she told him, taking them out. She handed him the other.
‘Now, we have promise rings. Now there’s something special to remember eachother by when where not together’, he told her, putting her ring on for her.
‘OMG! Billie you’re amazing’, she said, kissing him, ‘Their gorgeous. I love you so much. Oh I have something to tell you’ she said worryingly and shyly.
‘No don’t say anything. Tre rang and told us before. Let him come, we’ll deal with it then’, he told her looking into her eyes and kissing her again.
-A HALF HOUR LATER- [Steph’s dad has already arrived]
Steph and her step-dad, were talking in the lounge. There were all these other people in there as well. Large men with black suits on. They had been talking for quite a while now. Tre watched it from the creek in Mike’s bedroom door and was comentating to them.
‘She’s crying, and throwing her arms around’, Tre informed them. Billie rushed to the door. Tre grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
‘You cant go out remember’, he told Billie. Billie started to watch from the door as well. Steph was crying. They could hear her sobs quietly. Her father was screaming. So far they had made out the words and phrases; ‘Your coming’, ‘It doesn’t matter, what I say goes’, ‘No’ and ‘If you do I’ll kill myself’.
The men got up. They tried to pull Steph up off the couch. She wouldn’t move. They tried to pick her up.
‘Billie’, She screamed. He burst out of the bedroom, he couldn’t take it any-longer. Steph ran over to him and threw her arms around him and started to cry.
‘Steph what’s wrong?’, he asked her, trying to calm her down. She looked into he’s eyes.
‘He doesn’t want me to stay here. He wants me to move to Australia with him’, she blurted out, still crying madly. Billie looked over at the group of men.
‘You cant do that. Your not her father’, Billie said, holding Steph in tightly. He wasn’t going to let her go.
‘Yes I can. I’m her legal guardian’, he said coldly, staring them down. He turned on he’s heel and walked out of the house. Tre and Mike closed the door. The men started to approach Billie and Steph. They tried to separate them. They kept trying to keep contact. Slowly they were parting. They kissed.
‘Billie-Joe I love you’, Steph cried.
‘No you have to stay, I can’t live without you’, he cried, kissing her again.
The men had pulled them apart and were walking Steph to a car outside. All her fighting back, and screaming didn’t help her though. They were being taken away from eachother. Billie ran after her. He fought he’s way though and kissed her again.
‘You can’t leave’, he told her. Tears were streaming from both pairs of eye at this point.
‘I have no choice. I love you’, Steph screamed, once more as, they pulled her away and forced her into the car. Billie got pushed back on the ground. He could hear the sound of Steph banging her fists on the window, with small muffled shouts which sounded like his name. The car slowly drove off away from where ‘home’ had been for Steph for such a long time.
Billie lifted himself off of the ground and ran back inside. He made he’s way into the kitchen, opening up the fridge and getting out the last of the whiskey. He then made his way over to the cupboard grabbing anything that looked like medication. He started taking the two. Mike and Tre ran into the kitchen and tried to pull him away.
‘Billie stop’, Mike said, forcing the bottle out of his hands.
‘No Mike there’s no use, she’s gone’, Billie screamed falling to the floor.
‘Billie, come on. She’s not gone forever’, Tre said trying to get him to see the good side of things.
‘Yes she is. She’s never coming back’, he cried, dropping himself fully to the floor. He lay there for a while. He remembered the last thing Steph told him
"–I LOVE YOU-"
He wondered if he’d ever hear that again. It continued running though his mind.
‘Come on Billie. Lets take care of you’, Mike said, as he and Tre, lifted Billie off the ground and walked him into the lounge.
‘Its not going to be alright. Its not going to be alright’, Billie repeated, thinking of what Steph was feeling right now..
‘Good Morning’, she heard a voice say.
