Eternal Emerald, chapter 5
Billie woke in a cold sweat. He sat himself up. He looked over at the clock. It read 6.30am. He noticed the calendar next to it. It read 1991. He looked down at his bed. There was no-one beside him. He started to scratch the back of his neck. His door flung open.
‘Come on sleepyhead we got a show today’, Tre said enthusiastically from the door, holding his drumsticks.
‘Sorry Tre I didn’t hear you’, Billie said, getting up from his bed.
‘I said we have a show today in like 2 hours. Come on we’re in Melbourne, Australia. We flew in last night. Don’t tell me your still jet lagged’, Tre asked him, pulling faced.
‘No, sorry. I just had the most realistic dream’, Billie told him, rubbing he’s eyes.
‘Ahh, well if it was a naughty dream I can tell, your boxers are about to fall off’, Tre pointed out giggling.
Billie, looked down and pulled up he’s boxers. He walked past Tre and out of his room in the flat to the bathroom. He turned the tap on, and stared into the mirror. He splashed water onto his face, and looked back into the mirror.
‘Was it all a dream?’, he asked himself, turning off the tap.
‘Billie, your breakfast is ready’, Mike called from the kitchen. Billie walked in and took his seat.
‘There you go’, he said, handing Billie over his place. Billie’s eyes were still red as anything.
‘Bill you alright?’, Mike asked. Billie put he’s head into his hands.
‘Yeah, just a dream I had’, Billie told him. Mike smiled.
‘Oh I found this, it was in your pocket of one of your jackets you hadn’t worn in a while’, Mike said, tossing Billie something small. He caught it. it was the ring. The one he had dreamt about. He looked on the inside, it read “Will remember always. Billie stared at it for a while. He put it on. It couldn’t hurt after it was only a dream he had experienced.
‘Billie come on, hurry up, the show starts soon’, Tre screamed in excitement.
‘Yeah just let me have a shower and I’ll be ready to go’, Billie said.
An hour later after everyone had done everything they found themselves at the venue. It was small, but cosy and it felt right.
‘How many people do you think will be here?’, Billie asked.
‘About 600’, one of the stage managers told him. He’s mind started to wander off. Tre and Mike walked off the stage as they were starting to let the crowd in.
‘Billie, come on’, Mike called from behind the curtain. He came back to reality and walked off stage.
‘Where’s Tre?’, he asked Mike.
‘He went outside. Say’s he saw a girl’, Mike laughed.
‘That’s promising for Tre’, Billie said laughing as well. Tre hadn’t had a girl in ages, and he normally liked her when he saw her at a distance, but then was different close up.
‘Guys 5 minutes, and your on’, the stage manager told them. Tre walked in a few moments later.
‘Billie, I found you the most perfect girl’, Tre told him jumping up and down frantically.
‘Sure you did Tre’, Billie told him smiling, as he put his guitar on.
‘No Billie, you don’t understand she’s perfect for you’, Tre told him again.
‘I’ll talk to you about it later Tre’, Billie told him, as they got the signal to come on stage.
The crowd started screaming.
‘Good Evening Melbourne’, Billie screamed as they started to play their first song. The crowd went wild again. Through out the concert, the boys started to really get into the music and into the crowd. By the final song, everyone was waving their hands in the air madly, and screaming for more. By the time they had gotten off stage, they were hot flustered and looked as if they were ready to die.
Tre ran off straight away. For beer obviously. Mike and Billie, instead, came back stage and just chilled on the couch.
‘Billie I have that girl for you’, Tre said walking in, holding someone’s hand a few minutes later. Billie looked up. She looked familiar. Everything about her. Dress sense. Smile. Eyes. Where had he seen her before.
‘OMG Steph’, he said getting up and hugging her. He was in total shock. It was really her. She returned the hug.
‘I was wondering how long, it was gonna take you to remember’, she said giggling.
‘I don’t believe it its really you’, he said, smiling into her eyes, ‘Your all grown up’.
‘Well it happens’, she told him, shyly. Billie didn’t know what to say. He had just dreamt about this girl today. Now he was seeing her. it was amazing. Fate had worked out how he wanted it.
‘You wanna go talk?’, she asked him, picking up his hand, and bitting her lip. She was nervous.
‘Yeah, sure’, he replied starry eyed. They walked out into the car park and sat down on the bands tour bus engine hood.
‘So you kept the old love van’, Steph pointed out. Billie kept trying to look into her eyes.
‘Yeah’, he replied. Steph looked around trying to find something to start conversation with. She looked down at his hand. She saw the ring. Memories started to fill her head.
‘You kept your ring’, she said, picking up his hand. He looked down. Steph was wearing hers.
‘Yeah, so did you’, he said, linking fingers with her.
‘I’ve never taken it off’, she told him.
‘Do you remember the last thing you told me on the day that you had to leave?’, Billie asked her. Steph moved so she sat closer to him. Billie didn’t seem to mind. She pushed his hair off his face, so she could see his eyes. He looked deep into her eyes. He saw the image, he used to see, almost everyday when they were 15. Steph slowly pulled his collar towards her. Once they were close, she stoped.
‘I told you that I loved you’, she said quietly, still looking into he’s eyes.
‘I still love you’, he told her. He wondered how it was so easy for him to say it.
Steph laughed softly.
‘You know how long I’ve been waiting for you to say that to me’, she told him.
‘Forever’, Billie replied kissing her gently. They pulled back slowly.
‘I love you’, Steph told him, still looking into his eyes.
‘No I love you’, he told her again as they continued kissing passionately reviving the feelings they had for eachother which had never gone away after all.
‘Come on sleepyhead we got a show today’, Tre said enthusiastically from the door, holding his drumsticks.
