My encounter with Green Day, chapter 15
A few minutes later Calvin came back with Dr. Flint and I was allowed to leave.
Jakob called a cab and we were waiting outside.
"What was that Ross chick's problem anyways?" He asked as we sat on the stone steps outside the hospital.
"I don't know but she was determined to prove your dad was hitting me."
"Stupid bitch."
"Watch your mouth." I told him, "she was more of a cunt anyways."
When we got home Billie was sitting at the table smoking.
"Hey," I greeted as we came in.
"Hi." He replied, taking a drag, "I am going to bed, I was just waiting to make sure you guys got home safe. Of course, home might not be so safe with me here..."
"Billie, don't even think for a minute that I told that bitch that you hit me. I would never, you can trust me. I love you too much to do that."
He didn't say anything. He just stood up and left the room. I sat down at the table and put my head in my hands.
"It's okay, he loves you. He really does, he was so worried on the way to the hospital."
"I know but he is just being frustrating. He thinks I said no because I don't love him, but I do. I just don't know."
"Wait, what did you say no to?"
"Didn't he tell you? He proposed to me. And I said no because I wasn't ready just then and now it seems like he hates me."
"But he doesn't."
"I know, it just seems like it and I haven't really had time to think about it."
"Well if I were you, I'd marry him. I mean, you love him, he loves you. Mom, absolutely adores you, I like you, Joe likes you. I'm not saying you have to but there's a good chance it'll work out fine. Plus I want a baby sister damn it!"
I laughed and thought for a second.
"Jessie seems to like being married. But that just might be the sex."
Jakob laughed, "So you gonna go with it?
"Yeah. I think I am. Anyways. To bed with you. I'll call the school in the morning to say you won't be there."
"Okay." He got up and walked slowly upstairs, "Night."
I shut out the light and followed, "Yup. Night." I said, walking into the spare room.
The next day when I woke up it was two in the afternoon. I walked into the kitchen to found Billie sitting reading the paper and Jakob sitting half asleep eating cereal.
"Morning." I said nervously.
"I called the school." Billie replied flatly.
"Okay. Um, Billie, could I talk to you for a minute?"
He sighed and followed me into the living room.
"What?" He asked coldly.
"Well, I thought about it and, I do."
"You do?"
"Yeah, I do. I do love you, I do want to spend the rest of my life with you and I do want to marry you. I do."
A smile spread across his face, "You do?"
I nodded and he grabbed me around the waist.
"I love you." He whispered in my ear.
"I love you too."
We walked back in the kitchen holding hands and Jakob smiled.
"Happy again?"
"We were always happy."
