Stupid Billie, chapter 8
"Bam, other way!" Sami shouted at him.
"Oh... " He still handed let go.
"Ahem."
"Oh right." He let go.
"Thank you for my wrist." She said dryly. "Now, let's go the right way."
"We never went to the office really... " Billie said.
"Who cares?" Bam said.
Billie rolled his eyes. "I'm not even gonna pass middle school at this rate."
"You're telling me." Caitlin commented.
Meanwhile...
"Whoo-hoo! We're going to the guidance counselor! The guidance counselor!" Tre shouted happily.
"It's not that great... " Thea said, sounding very depressed.
"What's up with you? Why are you so unhappy?"
"Well, I'd be happier if a certain someone hadn't gotten me science homework."
Tre looked at her stupidly. "But... "
She shook her head and knocked on the door to the guidance counselor's office. It opened and out stepped a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Andy? What the hell? Weren't you in science like the rest of the class?"
"Well... um... I don't know! I just wound up here... hey is this your dad?"
She glared at him and grabbed him by the collar, just like she had her homeroom teacher. "Do I look like this drunken bastard?"
"Just say no and she'll be happy." Tre said.
"You're kinda familiar... do I know you from somewhere?"
"Uh... yeah I'm the janitor... "
"Yeah man that's awesome!" Andy screamed.
"Right... " Tre walked the office after Thea who had already run away from them into the office.
"Thea, wait!" Tre ran in and bumped into her.
"Oh!" She growled at him. "That hurt."
"Sorry... " Tre was looking past her at a man behind a desk. "Who's that?"
"The guidance counselor."
"What's he do?"
"He... 'gives us guidance'" Thea really didn't know what he did. She'd never even been to the office before.
The man turned. "Oh, hello, student in need! What can I help you with? Is this your father?"
Thea rolled her eyes, and for the third time that day said, "Do I look like this drunken bastard?"
"Oh my, language! There must be much more to you beneath the surface."
He started toward her, and Thea and Tre backed away. "Run!" she hissed.
They both ran out of the office.
Meanwhile...
"Mike, don't play with the chemicals! That's acid! Ahh! Go wash your hand!" Veronica was getting run ragged. "You're not even supposed to touch those!"
"But this one looks like bourbon."
"It's not!" She sighed. "What am I going to do with you?"
"I should be saying that. What about you in math class?"
"At least I don't do anything dangerous... "
"Yeah well fuck you." he whined. "I don't like science."
"That doesn't mean you can play with dangerous chemicals!"
"Why not?"
Veronica gave another exasperated sigh. "Because I said so."
"Why is the 13 year old bossing around the 33 year old?"
"Because the 33 year old is going to cause an explosion."
Mike stopped playing around and sat at the back of the room pouting. Since Mrs. Eppley had already had Thea and Tre, she didn't bother to ask why there was a full grown man in her class.
"Mike, come back over here." Veronica told him, patting the chair next to her. He came up and sat down. "Let's talk."
"About what?"
"Um... will you teach me how to play bass?"
He glared at her. "Why do you only talk to me when you want something?"
"What do you want me to talk to you about?"
"I dunno... whatever teenage girls talk about I guess. Like... guys?"
Veronica stared at him. "You want me to talk about guys... ?!"
"Yeah... okay?" What the hell did I get myself into?
"Okay!" Veronica smiled brightly. "Well, no one here in Spedway is worth dating... "
"I'll keep that in mind... "
"But boys in Boston... "
"Shut up, I've heard enough!" Mike said in an irritated tone.
"Fine, be that way!"
"Oh... " He still handed let go.
"Ahem."
