Billie The Bully, chapter 16
It was three weeks until Christmas.
Lucy was happy. You know how some days you're just happy, for no reason? And then there're days where you're unhappy for no reason.
As Lucy did up her Converse on the cold, frosty Thursday morning, her head was filled with thoughts of Christmas presents and Jingle Bells.
She met Tre at the corner. She babbled on about Christmas, but he was quiet.
"What's up, Tre?" She asked. She traced the frost of a fence with her gloved fingertip.
"It's Billie." He sighed.
Her heart skipped a beat. "Billie? What's happened? Is he OK?"
Tre smiled faintly. "He's fine. Well, that's the thing. He just, he hates Christmas. Ever since his dad died his family doesn't really celebrate it any more, none of them have time, you know? He got a bit upset about it last night, that's all."
"Poor Billie." Lucy said. "Well. We should celebrate it together. What d'you think?"
"What, you and Billie?"
Lucy rolled her eyes. "No. The four of us, dumbass."
"Ohhh." Tre smirked. "Sounds good to me."
"RACHEL! ARE YOU HOME!" Lucy shrieked as she swung her bag into the hallway. She'd had a good day at school for once, and she was in a brilliant mood.
Her older sister walked slowly out of the living room. Lucy frowned at her. Rachel's eyes were red and poofy and her face was tear (and mascara) marked.
"Rach? What's the matter?"
"Mom says we have to move!" Rachel sobbed. "She says we're moving to England!"
Lucy just stared at her. She wished she could say "mom doesn't mean it", but she knew it was true. Her mom never did anything on the spur of the moment. This would have all been thought about and planned. Which meant it was really happening. No! She couldn't move away from Billie and Mike and Tre!
"No!" Lucy yelled. "I can't! We can't be!"
"I'll never see Jason again!" Rachel cried. "I love him! She doesn't care!"
"Where's mom now?" Lucy asked.
"She went back to work." Rachel quivered.
Lucy ran to the phone and dialed her mother's work number.
Billie Joe laid on his bed, staring up at his ceiling. He couldn't get Lucy out of his mind.
He loved her. At least, he thought he did. He definitely felt something for her that he'd never felt for anyone ever before.
It was just so hard.
She'd made out with him. Did that mean she liked him? If it did, why hadn't she said something else, or done something else for that matter?
"Billie?"
He looked up and saw Mike coming in, followed by Tre.
"Hi guys."
"We have some bad news." Mike said. He looked upset.
"What?" Billie asked.
The door opened and Lucy walked in. She looked miserable. Wait, she had been so happy before. What had happened?
"Lu?" Billie said.
"Billie, I... I have to... My mom says we have to move. To England."
