Billie The Bully, chapter 31
"Maybe you should take something." Ben suggested.
Billie had been slumped against the table with his forehead pressed firmly against the surface for the last ten minutes.
"I can't," He murmured in response. "Sitting up hurts..."
Lucy bounced into the kitchen then, dressed in jeans and a blue shirt, her hair tied back. Her face was fully made-up and she looked bright and energetic.
"Good morning!!" She sang. "Morning Ben! Morning Billie!"
"Uhruh." Billie groaned.
"Mornin' mom," Ben said, reaching over to kiss his mother's cheek. "Bacon? Eggs?"
"Both will do!" Lucy said, smiling.
She sat down at the table and noticed Billie Joe. "What's up with you?"
"Hungover," Ben told her.
Joey entered the room at that moment, hair tossed and eyes heavy with lack of sleep. He walked over to the table and assumed the same position as his father.
"Jesus. It's like a graveyard around here." Lucy commented. "Hungover, Joey?"
Joey looked up and yawned. "Nah...I stayed up playing my Playstation Four..."
"'Til what time?" Billie piped up.
"Er..not that late..."
"Meaning...?" Ben said, raising an eyebrow.
"Uhm..five a.m." Joey mumbled.
Billie slowly lifted his head up. "Why?"
"That game is so addictive, dad!" Joey told him. "It's like...you just have to defeat the ninjas, y'know?"
Ben rolled his eyes and turned around to cook breakfast. Seriously, ninjas? Ha.
"Well. I was thinking we could have a day trip today. To take our minds off things. But obviously not." Lucy said, crossing her arms. "Men!"
"Tell me about it." Ben sniggered, placing the food in front of his mom.
Billie took a look at it and ran to the bathroom to throw up.
"So where's mom?" Carrie asked. She was on the phone to Ben.
"In the hot tub..."
"With Billie?"
"With Billie."
There was a pause, and then Carrie sighed. "Well. I guess they are adults."
"Yeah," Ben agreed. "They're pretty happy together." He decided not to tell her about what he had seen. "How's the wonderful Jakob?"
"Wonderful," Carrie giggled.
Ben paused a minute, then cleared his throat. "You'll be careful with him, right? Carrie?"
"Ben...God, you're so embarrassing." Carrie scowled into the receiver. "We won't do anything, for God's sake."
"Well, Im just telling you. I know what guys are like.."
"I bet you do." Carrie said. "How's Joey, eh?"
"Joey? Where does Joey come into this?" Ben exploded.
Carrie laughed. "Admit it! You so fancy him!!"
"What kind of a word is 'fancy'? And anyway, I do not. He's my friend. If mom and Billie get married he'll be my stepbrother." Ben told her.
"Yeah, sure, whatever Ben! I gotta go. Good luck with lover boy, and I'll talk to you later." Carrie giggled.
"Carrie! I DO NOT LIKE JOEY!!!"
Hearing the dialing tone, he turned and came face-to-face with Joey himself.
"I...er..."
Joey bit his lip and ran upstairs.
"Hey, what's up?" Billie said as he came into the living room to find Ben scowling at the TV.
"Nothing." Ben snapped.
"Well," Billie Joe said, sitting on the couch, "Judging by that face...it's either constipation or love."
Ben glared at him.
"The second one, huh?" Billie smiled faintly. "Who is she?"
Ben's eyes widened, and Billie frowned. "Oh...is it a...he?"
Ben stood up. "I'm not having this conversation."
"Ben, I only wanted to-"
"Just...just fuck off, okay?" Ben yelled, running out of the room.
At the bottom of the stairs he collided with Joey. The two stared at each other for a minute, eyes boring into each other. Billie watched from the doorway, his frown deepening. Then the boys turned on their heels and walked away from each other.
