The family inside Sweet Children, chapter 3
"Oookay, bad karma goinn' on." Mike said.
"What's the problem Al, she said nice to meet you and held out her hand, now I think you should shake it." Billie said.
Al reluctantly shook my hand fast and then pulled away.
"What's the matter man?" Mike asked.
"Since when can a shitty little brat join our band?! It's not a daycare sorry to tell you." Al growled angrily.
"I'm not a little brat you hick!" I yelled.
Al made a move towards me but Billie stepped infront of me.
"Don't even think about hurting her." Billie said.
'Let's go and set everything up Keanne." Mike said, taking my hand.
I pulled away, trying hard not to look like a kid infront of Al.
I just finished setting up the amp when I heard some yelling coming from Billie and Al. I sighed deep.
"Don't worry about it." Mike said.
Just then, footsteps sounded down the stairs and both Billie and Al appeared.
Al slumped down onto the drum stool and started warming up."
Billie must've convinced him to stay"I thought." So am I still in the band?" I asked sadly.
"Of course you are Billie said patting me on the back.
I shrugged and started warming up too. I played another song I made up, it was really fast. I didn't even notice when Al, Billie, and Mike stopped warming up and were listening. When I stopped I heard clapping and I looked up.
"Yeah!" said Mike." That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
"Hey!" Al yelled." Sorry, I guess you are pretty good."
"No hard feelings Al." I said smiling.
I looked over at Billie and he smiled proudly at me.
"Let's practise At The Library!" Mike yelled handing me the tab.
After only two weeks of playing Sweet Children's songs, we had a gig at some rich kid's high school party.
The guys were practising in my basement when I came down and signaled them to stop.
"So did you tell your mom?" Mike asked.
"Um... Yes... And guys?... I think I can't go... My mom said... A definate... No." I winced at my own words, dreading the guys' reaction.
"WHAT?!" Billie yelled, kicking over a near-by chair." You have to go, we need the other guitarist, we fuckin' need you!" he spat.
"You have to convince her, there's no other way." Mike said.
"Or we'll have to cancell." Al groaned.
"Ok guys I need you help, she can't say no to four people arguing the case." I suggested.
"Ok lets go." Billie said adn ran up the stairs.
We found my mom reading a book in the livingroom.
"Ummm... Mrs. Sampson? Billie started.
"Yes?" mom asked looking up from her book and taken aback to see the whole band before her.
"Can Keanne please come to the gig with us? We really need her." he pleaded.
I took his hand and squeased it, hoping for the best.
"I'm sorry but I'm not letting my daughter go to a high school party by herself." mom said.
"She won't be by herself she'll be with us Mrs. Sampson." Billie whined.
"No, I'm sorry." mom said sternly.
"Mom please." I begged.
"Yeah c'mon." Mike helped.
Al looked hopeful.
"I don't want drunk kids harming my daughter. No on would protect her."
"I would." Billie said putting his arm around my shoulders and pulling me close." Lately Keanne's been like a baby sister to me, I will play her older brother. I'll make sure nothing happens I swear. I love this kid." Billie smiled.
My mom smiled at us." No and that's final."
Those last few words ended our conversation and hit the band hard like a brick wall.
Billie glared at my mom then turned his back on us, knocking over a lamp purposly as he stormed out the front door, slamming it behind him.
He left his guitar but I new he didn't give a shit at this present moment.
I put my head in my hands as my mom picked up the lamp angrily.
"He is banned from this house for one week!" my mom yelled on her way upstairs.
"Great, more missed band practise." Mike sais absentmindedly, apparently in shock.
