Who's that fucker over there?, chapter 20
Tre came by to Billie and Adie's house. He had heard from Billie that the baby is a boy.
"So what're you gonna name it?" Tre asked.
"Well... I happened to be thinking about Joey Ramone at the time so we got the idea of naming our baby Joseph," Adie said.
"And his middle name is going to be the same as my father's," Billie added.
"Joseph Marciano Armstrong," Tre said.
Billie and Adie nodded.
"Pretty catchy," Tre said.
"So how're things going with Lisea?" Billie asked.
"We've been officially going out since last month. Lisea had to... erm... quit her job as a teacher," Tre declared.
"What? All for you?" Adie asked.
"Well, she knew the school would find out soon anyway, and she didn't want to keep things private anymore," Tre explained.
"That's complicated," Billie said.
"That's what happens when you fall for a teacher," Tre said.
Billie nodded and crossed his arms. He was thinking.
The phone started ringing.
Billie leaped for the phone and brought it up to his ear.
"Hey?" He said.
"Billie Joe. Mike's hurt, can you come by and help me get him to the hospital?" Ana's voice asked urgently.
"Wha- is he ok? What happened?"
"I don't know, but he's seriously hurt. I'll explain when you come over."
Billie nodded.
"I'll see you. Bye," Billie said as he slammed the phone down.
Tre looked at Billie's face.
"Let's go," Billie said, grabbing his car keys.
Adie's face wrinkled in concern.
"What? Is everything alright?" she asked.
Billie lightly rested his hand on Adie's arm.
"I'll explain later, just stay here, ok?" Billie said.
Tre prepared to leave.
Adie nodded.
Billie gave a quick kiss and gathered Tre so they could leave.
Billie jumped into his car with Tre and drove towards Mike's house.
"What's going on?" Tre asked while Billie was driving.
"He's been hurt. Ana didn't explain," Billie said, keeping his eyes on the road.
Tre suddenly felt feverish. He sat still and looked around.
Billie stepped on the gas when he saw the streetlight turn yellow. It turned red as soon as he passed under it.
Billie looked around and drove into Mike's driveway.
Tre and Billie got out the car and opened the door. Ana instantly greeted the pair.
"Mike's in the... bedroom," she said.
Tre eyed Ana suspiciously and followed Ana into the bedroom.
Billie was horrified to see Mike lying on the bed, in pain, with fluffy white shit surrounding him.
"What is that?" Billie asked, pointing to the fluffy "shit".
"I'll explain later," Ana said, turning red.
Billie and Tre took Mike's arm to pick him up. Mike screamed, making Tre and Billie jump.
"Please don't touch my arms," Mike said.
Billie and Tre managed to figure out a way to pick up Mike and load him into Tre's SUV.
"So... how did Mike get hurt?" Billie asked as he steered the wheel.
"I... don't laugh, ok?" Ana started.
Billie nodded.
"We were having a pillow fight and... well I guess I hit Mike a little too hard."
Billie started cracking up.
"Billie!" Ana whined.
Mike, who was in the back seat, was laughing too.
"Damn, Ana, you could almost kill people with pillows!" Billie said, laughing.
Mike laughed.
"My girl got me real bad," Mike said.
"It's like pulling teeth, huh?" Billie said.
"Like that Metallica song," Mike said.
Billie ended up laughing Mike all the way to the hospital.
Tre and Billie took Mike to the emergency room, where the doctor examined Mike and said that he broke both his arms. Billie stood by Mike's bed and cracked jokes for an hour. Then he said his goodbyes and left. On his way out, he spotted a familiar doctor. The doctor stopped and examined Billie's face.
"Mr. Armstrong! It's good to see you again. How's Adrienne?" he asked.
"She's great," Billie answered.
"Oh, and I think I forgot to tell you about the due date."
Billie perked up.
"He is going to be born sometime in the second week of September."
Billie bit his lower lip. It all was a coincident that Joseph's going to be born on the same week of his father's death.
"Thank you," Billie said, shaking the doctor's hand.
The doctor smiled as he walked away.
Billie slowly walked the hallways as he got weighed down with thoughts. He looked behind him. He noticed Tre coming out of Mike's hospital room. Billie stopped, so Tre could catch up.
"Mike's gonna be all right... The doctor suggests that he shouldn't pick up his bass in a while," Tre said.
Billie half smiled.
"He's gonna be alright," Billie said.
Tre and Billie walked together, side by side. Tre had his hands in his pockets.
"How does it feel to almost be a dad?" Tre asked with a grin.
"You know what? It feels alright," Billie said, raising his eyebrows.
Tre nodded.
"I want kids... " Tre said, looking dazed.
Billie made a face.
"Wait, what? You? Kids?" Billie asked, slowing down his walking pace.
"So what're you gonna name it?" Tre asked.
