Our Story, chapter 3

I awoke the next morning to the sound of the phone ringing.
"Jesus Christ! Who is calling this early?!" I said to myself out loud. I looked at the clock. It was 8:45. I rolled over in my bed and pulled the covers tightly around me. About 10 rings later I decided to get up and answer it.
"Hello?" I asked sleepily.
"Oh, hi Emily. Sorry if I woke you up. This is Billie." I hear a familiar voice say on the other line.
"Oh, no its fine." I immediately perked up.
"Ok good. I kinda figured that since we only had today to hang out we might as well spend the whole day together." Billie said. I was so mesmerized by the sound of his voice that I completely forgot to listen to what he was saying.
"Oh yea, that sounds great." I answered, praying to God that it was an appropriate response to whatever the hell he had just said to me.
"Does the restaurant you work at serve breakfast?" He asked. This time I listened.
"Yea, they have wicked good breakfast, too."
"Great." He answered enthusiastically. "Want to meet me there at like 10:00?"
"Sure, 10:00 sounds good." I answered, trying not to sound half as excited as I actually was.
"Ok so I'll meet you out front at 10:00. See you then. Bye Em." He said as he hung up.
"Bye... " I answered to the dial tone. About 5 minutes later I scraped myself of the ceiling and ran down the hallway to the bathroom. I took a fast shower and ran back to my room. I stood in front of my closet in my towel, my hair was dripping everywhere. I must have tried on about 1,000 different outfits, but then it occurred to me. I wasn't going out with one of the boys I dated in high school. I wasn't going on a date with a jock with a rich daddy and 4.0 GPA. I was going out with someone completely different. I decided to completely be myself when I was with Billie. I didn't want to be the person everyone thought I was, the person everyone wanted me to be. I finally picked out the perfect outfit. When I left the house at 9:30 for my breakfast date with Billie I was wearing my light blue jeans with the holes in the knees and rips on the pockets, my white on black shell toes, and a black ¾ length sweater. I had curled my hair, pinned some of it behind me ears, and put on some make up. I was so nervous and I had no idea why. I had felt so comfortable with Billie the night before. Why was I so nervous now? As I turned the corner I saw Billie standing in front of O'Brien's. I heart jumped into my mouth. He walked over to me and gave me a big hug.
"You smell really nice." He said with a smile on his face.
"Thanks." I said blushing.
We walked inside and were greeted by Jill. I had completely forgot she was working that morning. Her mouth dropped open.
"Oh... hi guys." She said with a shocked look on her face. "Let me get some menus and I'll find you two a table."
She walked us to a table in the back and put the menus down. She then proceeded to turn around and grab my arm.
"Can I borrow her for a second? Thanks." Jill said hastily as she dragged me away from Billie. "What are you doing!? I thought you were just going backstage to hangout with them not date Billie Joe fucking Armstrong!?" She said with a confused look on her face.
"We're not dating, its fucking breakfast Jill. Calm down. He asked for my number last night and called me this morning. They aren't leaving until tomorrow so we're going to hang out all day today." I said, finally being able to show someone how excited I was about this. "But I should get back to the table so he doesn't think that you took me into the kitchen and killed me or anything."
I ran back to the table and sat down. Billie was staring at the menu. 'He looks so cute when he's reading.' I thought to myself.
"O good, you're back. For a second I was worried that she took you back to the kitchen and murdered you." He said with a smile.
"Nope, I fought her off." I said with a laugh. "So what are we getting? I suggest the waffles. They're awesome."
"Oh no. You're a waffle person? This will never work." Billie said as he stood up and pretended to walk out.
"No wait! I can change!" I joked, which made him laugh as he sat back down across from me.
Billie and I ordered our food. We talked while we waited for it to come, and then talked some more after we finished eating. We sat and talked in the restaurant for about 2 hours. We talked about everything. Family, the band, friends, politics, everything. I learned so much about him in that 2-hour conversation. I learned about his dad dying when he was 10, about his mom raising him and his 5 siblings, how he met Mike, and the evolution of Green Day. After, we paid the bill we walked outside into the October air. It was cool out that day, cooler than usual. I felt like I had known Billie for years after that conversation. I showed him around campus. I showed him where all the parties were, which dorms were the nicest, and where I had my classes. We walked across one of the athletic fields to the metal bleachers. We climbed up to the top, sat there, and watched the boys' soccer team practice. We sat in silence for about 10 minutes. It was the most un-awkward silences I'd ever experienced. Unannounced, he reached over and grabbed my hand. He lifted it to his mouth and kissed it softly. I blushed and did the same with his hand. He laughed. I loved his laugh and his smile when he laughed.
"I really like you." He confessed. "And I must admit, up until this point I wasn't looking for a girlfriend. I didn't invite you backstage in hopes of finding a girlfriend. Hell, I didn't even ask you to breakfast under the assumption that you would become my girlfriend. But I realized that we have so much in common and there's so much I like about you. I know this is really fast, and I barely know you, but it think this could work. I think we could manage this whole long-distance thing if we tried... and if you're willing."
I started to blush and I felt my eyes begin to water. No boy had ever said something so honest to me in my life. I had never felt like this before. I'd never fallen for someone so fast before.
"Yea." I agreed. "I really like you, too. We do have a lot in common and I like you more than any boyfriend I've ever had, and I've only known you for a few hours. I think we should take a shot at it. You never know... this just might work."
As soon as the words left my mouth I felt his lips crash into mine. He kissed me hard. I loved every second of it. I could feel that he was smiling too when we were kissing. We sat on the bleachers and kissed until we were interrupted by the "ooooo's" of the entire boys soccer team. We both climbed down from the bleaches completely embarrassed. I could feel how red my cheeks were as we walked past them.
"Wow, we need to control ourselves." Billie joked.
"Yea. Or go somewhere private." I said as I looked up at him.
A huge grin came over his face and he grabbed my hand.
"We need to get to your dorm... fast." He said as he began to run.
I pulled my hand away from his and ran in front of him.
"This way!" I yelled as I sprinted ahead of him.
A few minutes later we were in the lobby of my dorm building. I signed Billie in as my guest for the day and we ran to the stairwell. We ran up to the 4th floor and then down the hall to my room. The second the door closed behind us, Billie grabbed my hips and pulled me towards him. He pushed me hard against the door and slammed his lips into mine again. We made out for about an hour on the couch and then on the bed and then up against the wall and then on the floor. All of a sudden Billie pushed me off of him.
"No ones here right?" He said panting.
"No, Jills at work remember." I responded, running my finger from his collarbone to the bottom of his shirt.
"Good." He answered as he peeled off my sweater. He threw it across the room as I began to take his off. Soon his shirt went flying as he unhooked my bra. I began to undo his belt furiously. He grabbed my head, pulled it up to his, and kissed me again. Then he kissed my jaw line and my neck. He pulled back and looked into my eyes.
"You're not a virgin, right?" He whispered softly as he made a trail of kisses on my neck.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" I asked playfully as I reached for the zipper on his jeans. He pushed me away.
"Are you?" He asked, getting more serious.
"Yea, but why should that matter." I responded offended.
"I... I... I can't do this." He answered as he stood up and put his shirt back on.
He walked around the room and picked up my bra and sweater and threw them back to me.
"I have to go back to the hotel, I'll call you later." He said as he walked out the door.
I stood up and held my sweater to my chest to cover myself as I ran after him. I opened the door and yelled down the hall to him.
"Billie! Billie where are you going? What happened?" I screamed.
"I have to go back to the hotel, I'll call you in a little while." He said as he motioned for me to go back into my room.
I went back inside and sat on the floor against the door.
"What the fuck did I do?" I thought out loud to myself. "And to think, I thought this was going to actually work."
