City Slicker Cool, chapter 1

******TRE'S POV******

"Why do I have to stay here?".
"Its holidays young man and you know what that means", my mother told me. I rolled my eyes and continued to look out the window.
"You have to stay with your father for a week", she continued, "After that it's your own choice you know how it runs". I kept watch out of the car window. It was so much greener here then in the city. Then again this was the country and from memory I know the beach wasn't to far away either. I sat back in my seat and slouched down looking just over the dashboard. I couldn't believe it was this time of year again. What was I going to do at a farm for a week? Like seriously? There was no one here. It was like deserted. That's what I though until we drove up the driveway.
"Who's that over there?", I asked curiously. My mother shook her head.
"I wouldn't know you'd have to ask your father", she told me stopping the car, "Now I'll see you later sweetie have fun", she continued kissing me on the cheek and forehead. I needed to get inside quickly to wipe the lipstick mark off but she kept my standing outside until she had driven off. Until she was out of sight and until I felt an arm on my shoulder.
"Morning junior", I heard my old man say. I turned around and smiled.
"Hey dad", I replied as enthusiastically as I could manage. He shook his head and looked me up and down.
"Maybe the country air will do you well", he suggested walking me and my luggage inside the house.

"Hey dad, can I ask you something?".
"After we go do some things, now come on I'll show you around again", my dad told me walking me out of the house and across the paddock. I constantly turned around thinking that I was hearing voices.
"Dad who were the kids I saw before when mom dropped me off?", I asked wanting an answer. Maybe it could explain the reason I was hearing things.
"The ones in the front?", he asked. I nodded in reply.
"Well the two taller boys, those are Adam and Joey. The other boy's names Ethan and the girl who's his sisters Stef. You'll see them two around here a lot doing odd chores and what not for me", he finished pushing open a giant wooden door. No way. Nuh ha! I was not doing stable chores.
"You cant be serious?", I asked him looking at my dad. He gave me a look of certainly. I shook my head and followed him in an unimpressed manner. He couldn't expect his own son to do farm work. That was wrong.
"Okay you can first start by feeding those sir horses over there. The feeds in the back room and the buckets there also", he told me ruffling my hair before he mad his way out to do some other work. Slowly I made my way to the back room. There like he said were the buckets and feed. Can't be too hard. I've seen it done in the movies. I took the bucket and filled it to the brim taking it to the first stall. Okay here goes nothing I told myself as I slowly started to walk in. That's when the terrible happened.

******END OF POV******

"Ohhh!", Tre let out being kicked in the stomach by a horse. The feed had gone flying and he had fallen back into a hay stack. The horse turned around to look at him like he expected Tre to know what he was doing.
"Nice horsemanship city slicker", he heard a voice tell him. He looked up and rubbed his arm having fallen on it. A girl. The girl he had seen in the paddocks on the way in.
"Like to see you try do better", he told her giving her a bizarre look. She smiled and shook her head picking up the feed bucket and walking straight into the stable. The horse was fine. Within a few quick seconds she was out again. No cuts or bruises. Completely fine.
"That's not fair, he knows you", Tre blurted out. The girl smiled and bit her lip.
"Actually no he's a new one", he informed him, "But the difference is I know what I'm doing and you don't". Tre got himself up and brushed off excess hay from him before he stopped to introduce himself.
"Tre", he said civilly putting his hand out. She looked at him before reacting.
"You're the bosses son huh?", she asked. Tre nodded. As he did she took his hand and shook back.
"I'm Stef, it's nice to meet you", she told him smiling.
"Same to you", he responded looking her up and down. She didn't really look the country type. Then again there were features that stood out. Her ripped jeans, converse and motley crue shirt didn't really fit the whole stereotype of a country girl but the plaid shirt tied around her waist and piggy tales she had in her hair sure did.
"You alright? I should have asked you before", she said making his gaze stop. Tre nodded.
"Jut remind me never to do that again", he told her. She smiled and locked the stable door walking out of the barn.
"You don't have to do that, I'll finish the job later", she explained. He thanked her and started walking back towards the house. She followed him.
"So how long are you here for?", she asked placing her hands in her pockets as they walked through the meadows.
"Just a week", he said unresponsively. After what had already happened he really didn't want to stay here longer then he had do.
"Oh that's a shame, it means you'll be missing the camp out and hunt we have every year", she told him. He looked over at her.
"Is it worth it?", he asked. She nodded. Tre leant his head backwards and looked into the sky.
"I'll think about it", he told her walking up to the house portico.

"Back already huh?", his father asked him. Tre nodded.
"Howdy Mr Wright", Stef greeted him. He took his hat off to her.
"Morning little lady", he responded, "What might you be doing up so early?".
"Work as usual", she responded. He smiled.
"Listen how about you take young Frank here out and about and have the rest of the day off?", he proposed as and idea. She smiled.
"Alright", she said turning to Tre, "Have your swimming trunks on in 15 minutes and be out here for when I come back", she told him walking off back to the barn to finish off her work.
"What exactly did she mean by that?", he asked his father. The older Wright smiled and shook his head.
"Just do ask she told you", he told his son walking off to the tractor to start ploughing.

Tre shrugged and walked inside to get ready for what seemed to be the rest of a weird and unexpected day...
