City Slicker Cool, chapter 2
"You should leave your shirt here you're not going to need it", Stef told him finding Tre waiting for her on the porch steps as she had asked. He looked up at her not knowing how to respond.
"Well if you take it when we go down to either the beach or the rock pools its just going to get damn", she explained. He sighed and took his shirt off revealing his bare chest. She smiled and let him put his shirt inside before she walked with him down through the meadows.
"Anywhere you wanna go in particular?", she asked. Tre thought in his head for a moment. The answer 'home' seemed like a good idea but he refrained from saying anything.
"What's this rock pool thing you mentioned before? My mom said it in the car as well". Stef smiled.
"There's no use explaining, I'll take you there instead", she told him staring to run. Tre chased her there through the fields. The two finally stopped when they were out of breath but it was okay they had made it to where they wanted to be.
*STEF'S POV*
I can't believe he actually followed me. Guys usually stop half way into the field. I turned around to make sure he was still here with me.
"Don't step to close to the edge", I told him putting a hand out. He backed away slowly looking down.
"I only wanted to see how deep it was", he told me walking over and standing behind me.
"Very deep", I explained to him, "Especially over there", I said pointing. He looked and gulped.
"Exactly how deep?", he asked biting his lip. I smiled and looked into his eyes. They were as blue and as clear as the water I was planning to enter.
"Well no ones been ever able to touch the bottom off it".
*END OF POV*
Stef took her shirt off making sure her bathers were adjusted properly. She threw it onto some rocks behind the two standing and slowly made her way over to the edge letting her feet enter the water.
"You are coming in aren't you?", she asked walking in knee deep. Her red board shorts were already soaked in water. Tre cautiously followed her in taking note of exactly where she stepped and following that path.
"Waters warm", he let out looking around. Soon enough the pair were waist deep.
"Of course it runs off a spring?', she explained, "Its even warm in the middle of winter". Tre smiled.
"So its like a personal swimming pool only other people have access to it?", he asked. Stef shook her head.
"This part of the property's abandoned", she explained giving him a small history lesson, "I'll show you on the way back to the house why", she finished diving in under the water. It was so clear that Tre could see her every move. She came back up for air and shook her head about shaking water off of her hair. She smiled having her fringe fall in front of her face and her piggy tales falling out.
"Well you coming deeper?", she asked hearing voiced travelling along the tree lines surrounding the rock pools. Tre turned around to see where they were coming from when his eyes came into contact with 3 teenage boys.
*TRE'S POV*
"Howdy", the first boy greeted me with. I looked at him. He was definitely brother to Stef.
"I'm Ethan and this is Adam and Joey", he said pointing to the boys behind him who had entered the pools and were mucking around with Stef. I smiled.
"Tre", I told him introducing myself, "How are you?".
"Not to bad", he responded, "I see you've met my sister", he said respectfully. I smiled and looked over to her being dropped into the water by the two boys.
"Yeah this morning in the barn", I explained. Ethan nodded. He seemed like a nice enough guy.
"Let me guess. Horse issue?", he asked me. I nodded conquered.
"She sure has a way with them", I told him. He smiled.
"Yeah she always has. So how long you here for?".
"A week", I responded, "Maybe a little longer once I bring some friends down from the city", I explained. We kept chatting until Stef walked over.
"So we going to show him why no one ever comes here", I heard her say. Ethan nodded walking out of the water. The other boys walked out excusing themselves to go back to work. Steph took my hand walking me along to what must have been the most amazing thing I had ever come across.
*END OF POV*
"Are you serious?", Tre let out looking at the house. It was like out of a shot of a horror movie.
"Sure are", Stef said putting her shirt back on, "Its got everything from the over grown ivy to the rickety fences to the grave yard at the rear", she told him smiling.
"No one ever goes there though", Ethan explained. Tre looked over at him. This was too good to be true. It was like right out of a movie he would watch with Billie Joe and Mike.
"Why not?", he asked not really interested in an answer.
"Its haunted", Stef told him in a serious tone. He turned and looked at her.
"You're joking". The two siblings shook their heads.
"Serious as I'll ever be", Stef told him walking away from the fence. Tre and Ethan stood together for a while before a gush of cold wind blew across them.
"Come on we should get you back to the house", Ethan told Tre turning and walking away towards his sister.
Tre took another look at the house hearing something he didn't expect to. It was alone the lines of "DO NOT RETURN". It meant nothing to the curious 16 year old though. It was probably Joey and Adam having a little fun he thought as he started walking back as well.
-AT THE WRIGHT HOUSE HOLD-
"So how'd you like your first day?", Stef asked Tre walking along side him. He nodded.
"Was what I expected it to be like", he told her honestly. The two reached the house and stopped to converse for a moment alone.
"So I'll see you around?", she asked. Tre nodded picking up his shirt from the chair where he had left it and placed it on since it was getting chilly.
"Of course you will", he told her smiling. She grinned and told him good night before she walked off into the darkness alone. Tre watched until her figure fully disappeared before he made his way back into the house.
"Dad I'm back", Tre shouted letting his father know his whereabouts.
"In the kitchen son", his father responded. Tre walked into there seeing his dad at the table with the daily paper in front of him.
"How'd you like it so far?", his father asked him. Tre took a seat down next to him and rested his elbow on the table top holding his hear in his hand.
"It's been fun. Made friends so it's not going to be as bad or boring as I thought", Tre told him. His father smiling knowing exactly what he was talking about.
"You mean like Ethan and Stef?", he asked. Tre nodded while his father shook his head.
"Just be careful of the boys they are real practical jokers", his father told him before excusing himself to bed. Tre made his way upstairs and into his room flopping down onto his bed.
"Maybe its not going to be that bad after all", he thought to himself closing his eyes to fall asleep until his cell phone rang... ... ...
"Well if you take it when we go down to either the beach or the rock pools its just going to get damn", she explained. He sighed and took his shirt off revealing his bare chest. She smiled and let him put his shirt inside before she walked with him down through the meadows.
