Regrets Of A Teenage Life (Sequel To Time Of My Life), chapter 22

I sat still, holding her hands for about ten minutes.

"Well aren't you gonna say anything?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"Erm... I don't know what to say," she admitted.

"I know it's a shock but babe, it's what we always wanted. I know you'll have to think about it, but I really think we should. You know, a little one and half, two year old girl?" I explained.

"I don't know Billie. We would have to ask the kids, it would be affecting them too, you know," she replied.

"Fine, we'll talk to them. Jake, come down here a minute!" I yelled.

"Coming!" He yelled back, and we heard his feet hurrying down the stairs.

"What's up?" He asked, sitting down next to me.

"How would you feel if you got a little sister?" I asked him. He looked confused for a while, his brow furrowing deep in thought.

"I guess it would be cool, but I thought Matt and Emma were having a baby girl, so I'm getting a little sister anyways," he said.

"Oh no, she wouldn't be your little sister. She would be your niece and you'd be her uncle," I explained to him.

"Oh cool! Yeah, I want a little sister of my own!" He yelled happily, before running back upstairs.

"See babe, now we only need to ask Matt. He'll be home in half an hour," I told her.

"Ok I guess. If it's fine with Matt then yeah, we can adopt a little girl," she said, kissing my cheek.

Half an hour soon passed and sure enough, Matthew walked in. He sat down, exhausted, and sighed. I sat and smiled at him.

"What?" He asked.

"Nothin," I replied, still smiling like a madman.

"Is there something wrong with my face?" He asked, cocking his eyebrow.

"We want to talk to you, Matt," Rebecca said finally.

"Uh oh..." Matthew said worriedly.

"No, you haven't done anything wrong. We just want to ask you an important question," I said in reply. I grabbed Rebecca's hand and she squeezed mine gently for support.

"How would you feel if your mom and I adopted a little girl about a year and a half or two years old?" I asked. His face fell. He didn't answer, he just stared at his shoes, maybe hoping they would do a trick.

"Why?" Was all he said, still not looking up from his shoes.

"Well, we can't have another child now, because it would be weird if your brother or sister is younger than their own niece, so we thought adopting would be better," I explained.

"Is this all because Emma and I are having the baby girl you two never had!?" Matt spat at me.

"No, Matt. It's not like that, I promise. Rea-" Matt cut me off.

"Don't you fucking promise me, Dad! I know what this is about. I can't fucking believe you would get jealous of me and Emma, of your own granddaughter! You fucking disgust me. As far as I am concerned, you are not my father!" He yelled, and stomped up the stairs.

"Fuck," I muttered under my breath. Rebecca pulled me into a hug and I sat there, nearly crying.

"I guess that's a no," I said after about fifteen minutes of silence, the only noise being Matt throwing things around in his room.

"You know, I think you should talk to him," Rebecca said.

"I guess I should, but he'll probably hit me or something," I said, listening to the things being thrown around his room, which suggested that his mood wasn't good.

"Go on. He won't hit you, you're his dad," she replied, running her hands through my hair.

"Okay, I'll go," I said, taking a deep breath and getting up. "If there's a lot of yelling, come help me," I begged.

"I will, don't worry," she replied with a smile. I walked reluctantly up the stairs and knocked on his bedroom door.

"Fuck off!" He yelled. I stepped in, at the risk of my own life.

"I said fuck off," he said turning around as he heard me open the door. He glared at me. He looked like he was going to swing for me.

"Matt, I just want to explain," I started.

"There is nothing to explain - you're a jealous fucker! Jealous of your own son!" He spat at me.

"Matt, I am not jealous. You know this is what me and yo-" I got cut off by him again.

"JUST FUCK OFF!!!" He yelled furiously.

"I am your father! I will not be spoken to like that!" I yelled back. I had obviously taken it too far. It was then that he swung for me. I felt my nose snap. I saw the blood pouring all over the blue carpet. Before I blacked out, I saw Matthew running from the room.
