Killing Loneliness, chapter 4

Scarlett slowly opened her eyes. Her mind flashed back to the previous night, with Mike.
A grin arose on her face as she thought about at the club when he had asked her out. And they
had kissed! Was it really happening? She was so lucky to be going out with him. And Billie Joe and
Tre were really nice guys. Adie and Cassy were really cool people aswell. She even let
out a little laugh as she thought about they way Tre had almost smashed the drum kit the way
he beat the hell out of it and how Billie danced like a complete idiot when he was drunk.
Mike was such a sweet guy and she was so excited about seeing him again.

She didn't want to get up because she knew she was going to have an earfull of her parents
this morning. Well more than that.

After about half and hour she dragged her self out of bed. She made her way down to the kitchen.
Her parents were both sitting there.

"Good morning Scarlett. So then, let's try and get an answer from you," her Dad started
"what were you doing last night?"

"God I told you, I was with some friends!"

"Oh yeah," said Katie walking into the kitchen to get a drink. "you don't even have any
friends."

"Uh, how would you know?" she answered back to her.

"Maybe because at school you are a total loner!"

"Who said they were friends from school?"

"No one would want to be friends with you anyway!"

"Katie don't speak like that to your sister, it's not very nice." her mother said. "Now please
can you give us the truth?"

"How long does it take to get into your head!" her voice was really rising "I was with friends!"

"Don't shout at me for goodness sake." he dad said to her "Are you sure you were with friends
because I can't say I'm believing all this."

"Am I sure I was with friends? Hmm let's see," she answered sarcastically "Yes!"

Her dad took a very deep breath.

"Well let me tell you, if you are out one more time without our permission, there is serious
trouble. Do I make myself clear?" he said very seriously.

"Yeah." she answered.

She grabbed herself some cereals before making her way back upstairs.

Saturday. There was nothing to do. Perhaps she should just go down town.
Okay there would be nothing inpaticular to do but at least it was something.
After finishing her breakfast she got dressed and made her way down stairs.

"Dad, is it okay if I go to town?" she asked and then thought of a good excuse "to um, go
to the library? I heard there's a knew Biology range of books there."

"Um, alright then," he looked at his watch, It was already twenty past twelve since she had
got up so late. "but I want you back at four o'clock okay, no later."

"Yeah sure," she answered "I'll see you later."

She jogged up the hill and stood at the bus stop for five minutes. What she was going to do
in town she did not know but all the same she didn't care. scarlett was still happy from
last night. She kept replaying when her and Mike had lay on the sofa and kissed. It made her
feel so happy. Mike seemed such a genuine guy.

The bus finally arrived and she hopped on, payed the driver and sat down.

It finally arrived in the town centre. She made her way down the street to where all the shops were.
At first she made her way into the music store. Scarlett wasn't actually looking for anything
in particular so she just flicked through various CD's.

"Hey Scarlett!"

She heard a familliar voice behind her. She turned round and saw Mike heading towards her.

"Oh hey Mike, how are you?" she said really pleased he had turned up.

"Oh me I'm great thanks, are you?" he replied.

"I'm getting by." she laughed.

"What did your parents say last night?"

"Oh, well I got in and they, you know were pretty annoyed but because it was like half two
or what ever they left it till the morning. Then I just told them I was with some friends
which they didn't really believe one hundred percent but I'm okay. My dad just said that if
I'm out late again, things aren't gonna be so pretty!" she told him and grinned.

"Well guess that's not too bad. Do you uh, wanna go and do something, I mean I'm not here for anything
in particular."

"No neither am I!" she answered.

"So what shall we do?" he asked her.

"I leave it up to you."

They ended up walking down to Starbuck's for a drink. Scarlett came up with Mike to the counter.

"Hey you go and sit down," Mike said to her "I'll pay."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."

She walked over by the window and sat herself down. Mike was such a sweet guy. She was so
pleased he had turned up.

Mike came and put the two coffees down.

"So," there was a long pause as he tried to think of something to say. "I uh, take it you
enjoyed yesterday." he said with an uncertain look.

"God yeah, best thing that's happened in ages." she said meaning yeah it was great fun and
you guys totally rock but the best thing was that you asked me out.

"Yeah me too."

"Billie and Tre both seem mad guys."she said trying to get a good conversation going.

"Oh yeah," Mike answered his eyes opening. "When they are drunk especially. Once we went
to a party and Billie got totally pissed. Aswell as throwing up everywhere he stood outside singing
some nonsense about "I love you baby". No one had a clue what was going on and then he stripped
down to his boxers and ran around the street!"

Scarlett cracked up laughing.

"So what's Tre like?" she asked him.

"Like Billie, totally insane. Except he thinks about more let's say intimate stuff,"

"Oh really? Like.."

"Well for a starter he is obssessed about what's in his pants. You know, giving us updates

and stuff. Not that we're that interested, but there's Tre for ya."

She began to laugh even more.

"You've got a really sweet laugh." he told her. She began to blush.

"Thanks." she said in a very quiet voice as she took another sip from her coffee.

"What's Tre's really name?"

"Frank, believe it or not."

She nodded.

"So um, what about you?" she asked.

"Well compared to the other guys I have a lot more sanity, but I do have my moments." a sneaky
grin arose on his face. "What about you?"

"There is nothing special that I could really tell you about. I mean my parents are...twats,
my sister's a slut and I'm a loner."

"You're not a loner, I mean I like you, Billie Joe likes you, Tre likes you, Cassy likes you
and Adie likes you."

"I guess, but I'm still a loner."

"Is your sister the one with the blonde hair who lookes like you?"

Scarlett was taking along sip and began instantly coughing.

"Excuse me," she raised her eyebrows "do not ever tell me I look like Katie!"

"Well you do, but you're prettier an more natural."

"Thanks." they both took their last sips of coffee. Mike offered a strong mint. She took one.

"Cheers."

They both stood up. Scarlett followed Mike not really knowing where they were going.

They ended up walking down the street. Mike took hold of her hand and she got the same tingly
feelings she'd had before. They continued walking untill they ended up walking down a small
road untill they were near a small field.

He turned round and put his arms round her waist. They were all alone. They looked at each
other for a few moments before he slowly began to kiss her. It was very gentle at first,
just their lips touching. He soon began to hold them for longer before he slowly pushed his
tongue in her mouth. His hands began running up her top. He stroked her skin very gently
which made her wiggle a bit, even though she tried not to. She let out a little laugh and he
broke away. He was smiling aswell.

"You ticklish?"

"Yeah, all on my back and tummy."

He put his hands in her back pockets and began to kiss her neck. It made her feel so good. He
edged even more towards her so they were basically pressed right against each other.

"Shall we go back to mine?" he whispered still with his face by her neck.

"Okay." she replied with a little giggle.

He took her hand and began to briskly walk along the roads again. He was going at quite a
fast pace and pulling her behind.

He got to the door and pulled his keys out his pocket.

"Wonder if we're alone? Let's see." he said pacing up the stairs. He opened Billie's bedroom
door.

"Nope, we're alone."he said closing the door again. "One mo, just gonna change my top, this top smells."

She followed him into his room not sure whether he wanted her to be there or not. Mike just
slipped a top out of a draw and put it on straight away. She wasn't facing him but she watched
him. He has a nice body, she thought to herself letting a grin arise on her face. Mike turned
around and slumped on his bed.

"You can sit down you know."

She moved her way over and perched on the edge.

"Make yourself comfy, this aint a posh person's house so there's no manners needed."

She lifted one knee onto the bed.

Ok, all she really wanted to do is flop herself down and pull him right on top of her, but
she didn't feel like she could just slob around.

There was a really awkward silence.

"So, did you get anything in town?" Mike asked.

"No, I just went there for something to do."

"Mm. Well I was originally with my friends from school, but then I saw you so, you know, just
said I'd catch 'em later."

"What?" Scarlett looked at him, shocked "Well didn't they realise that I was there?"

"Yeah, so?"

"Well, doesn't that mean they know we're going out?"

"And..."

"Well, they're not exactly gonna, well you know, except that alot, are they?"

He put one hand on hers.

"Look I'm not embarrased to go out with you, you know." he looked at her straight at her.

It made her feel good, him saying that.

"I don't think it's right, me trying to keep it secret or anything. I mean you are a really
special person, there's just so many idiots who don't look at people and see who they really
are, but I know that you're a good person."

She was starting to get more comfortable. She was lying on her side with her head on one hand.
They began to kiss a bit more, closer together.

"I'M BACK!" Billie yelled from the front door at the top of his voice.

Mike sighed. Typical of Billie Joe. Scarlett looked at the clock. She'd better get going.
She pulled herself of Mike's bed.

"Crap!" she grumbled.

"What's up?"

"I don't have time to go to the library."

"Library?"

"Yeah I told my dad I was getting some Biology books but I aint got time to go now. I bet he didn't
even believe me when I said I was going anyway."

"Hang on let me check." Mike said jumping up." Looked at the book case down stairs."Um, there's
Science ones, but like me and Billie aren't exactly academic so you know."

"That's fine, I just wanna show my dad that I wasn't lying, even though I was."

"Oh um, there's another one here that lookes somewhat scientific."

"Cheers, just as long as it's evidence." he handed the books to her.

Scarlett and Mike stepped out the door way and began to make their way down the street again.
All of a sudden she just felt alot more comfortable with him.

When she reached the top she didn't mind giving him a hug first.

"I'll see you on Monday." she said to him.

"Yep." He gave her cheek a kiss while they were still hugging. "Bye then." He even patted
her bum as she walked off.

She laughed, shocked that he'd done it but not bothered.

Katie answered the door for her, but didn't say anything. She walked into her living room.
Her dad was watching TV.

"Hi." she said briefly.

"Hello Scarlett, get any good books?" he asked her in a way which sounded like he was expecting her
to come up with a ridiculous excuse.

"Yeah I did actually." she said holding up the two Mike had leant her.

"Oh," he said quite surprised "Good, use them well, won't you."

"Yeah, whatever." she answered.
