Aeon Flux, chapter 1

Rayne stood in the musty white hallway of the warehouse. Cobwebs hung off the ceiling like macabre birthday streamers and the floor was covered in a thin layer of dust. she looked down on the floor and saw a trail of blood as if something had been dragged along the concrete tiles. The weight of the victim caused the dust to be pushed aside creating a kind of pathway; which made it incredible easy to find where the body had been dumped. Walking at a steady pace she came upon a corner and by the smell of decay she knew what was around it. Sure enough the body of a young boy hung from the ceiling, the dripping of blood from his left foot was the only noise that filled the silent scene. Rayne felt an anger rise in the pit of her stomach as she cut the rope that had been entwined around his neck. His body fell to the floor in a thump which echoed off the bare white walls. She ran her thin pale fingers over his eyes closing them. She turned his head to the side and closed her eyes trying to hold back tears as two red marks became visible. They were small and looked very unthreatening, almost like that of a bug bit, but she knew better. The bites wouldn't make a difference now though, they had drained him of all of his blood, he wasn't coming back, even in the form of a vampire. A sudden crashing noise in the distance pulled her attention away from the corpse. There were raised voices and the sound of car doors. Rayne picked up the boy and started to move towards the exit. She had to get out of their before she was found with the body; even if she didn't kill him she would be blamed.

Rayne stepped out into the warm night air. Her car was parked three stories below her, but the stairs that led to them seemed rickety and unstable. Looking down at the ground she swallowed hard. She had never liked this part. Rayne leaned forward (still holding tightly onto the boy) and jumped. She could hear the wind whistle past her ears and her feet connecting with solid ground. She stood there for a moment her eyes still glued shut. Rayne opened them up slowly, she had done this a million or more times but it never got easier; she was too afraid of heights. Wasting no time she ran to the car and put the body in the trunk. Within seconds she was speeding out of the empty parking lot towards the bright lights of the city.

Leo sat at his desk and stared at the message that was blinking across his screen. He had just gotten up to go grab a cup of coffee and when he came back there it was. He looked around him nervously before leaning forward and adjusting his glasses.

"Impossible," he muttered under his breathe as he rubbed his dirty hands on the side of the leather chair.

Getting up off his chair as quickly as possible he waddled across the empty office building towards the exit sign.

"Leeeeooooo," an all too familiar voice whispered across the room.

Leo stopped dead in his tracks he could feel cold sweat run down his back and he was finding it increasingly harder to breathe.
"Why are you running Leo?" the voice questioned in a calm but seemingly eerie tone.

"I...I...I," he stuttered unable to form any words let alone say them.

"That's too bad that you found all of this too much to handle. I had big plans for you Leo"

"I wasn't runni...," was all Leo managed to say before his life was ended.

One of his co-workers found him the next morning lying face down on the carpet. The police were immediately called and upon further investigation they discovered that his heart had been removed while he was still alive. As the head of forensics gruesomely described to the media. "The murder was done in such a fashion them when the heart was removed... the man would have been able to watch it beat several times before he died." Two other clues involved in the murder were even more troubling for investigators. One was his computer had been completely destroyed if not taken completely. Secondly and possible the most confusing was that at the exact moment of Leo's death all security cameras in the office building( which has over 200) turned off for thirty seconds. The last shot of Leo was of him standing near the exit to the stairwell talking into the darkness.

Camilla jumped up and down screaming at the top of her lungs. Well she wasn't screaming she was singing, but so loudly that it had became a pitch only dogs can hear. She didn't care that's she had come alone to the concert she loved it anyway, friends or no friends. A sudden whirring noise came from her pocket and she groaned as she reached for her cell phone.
She hadn't even said hello when a voice that she hadn't heard in years spoke from the other end. She listened carefully to everything the voice was saying. Finally after several minutes she hung up the phone and looked around. She turned on her heels, ignoring the concert and ran through the crowd. She had to get out of hear and quickly. Two large security guards stood guarding her quickest exit. She looked around and hoped that everyones attention was on the concert.

"Excuse me ma'am this area is off limits too..." a security guard began before Camilla pushed him aside. She hadn't meant to be that strong but her idea of a 'gentle push" sent them flying in either direction.

She ran as fast as she could through the hall. She would have ran straight through to the exit had something not stopped her. As she was running she came upon a small child standing in the middle of the hallway. The young girl was dressed head to toe in red and she carried a black balloon.

"You!" Camilla growled pulling back her teeth like a wild dog. She recognized the girl immediately.

The child only smiled and pointed to Camilla's left. Camilla didn't even have time to turn her head before she was knocked unconscious.
