Aeon Flux, chapter 3

Kaye sat in the middle of her living rocking back and forth at a steady, constant pace. Her eyes had rolled back into her head and her pupils had disappeared completely; she was in dire need of blood. She had not fed for the past two nights and she felt as though her insides were withering away. The blood supply from the 'Red Cross' would not arrive for a week and by then she would be dead. She had no choice but to go out and find an easy food source. The sun outside was just starting to set so it was the optimum time. Kaye staggered to her feet immediately resting her weight against one of the coffee tables so she wouldn't fall over. She grabbed a long coat from one of the rusty bronze hooks that lined the wall by the door. Stepping outside she shivered as she pulled her hood over her face. She couldn't allow anyone to see how she looked right now. She scanned the street, but it was completely empty except for a stray dog whose fur was pulled tight over visible ribs. The dog was skinny, but he would do. She was too hungry to pass up any opportunity. If only her great grandfather could see her now; she laughed at the thought. He would consider her a disgrace to the family name.
"Here Doggy," she called to the animal in her sweetest most welcoming voice.
The dog looked up and came over its tale wagging. Kaye felt a kind of pity for the animal; here it was voluntarily walking into harms way. But at this moment of time her hunger was so overwhelming anything would do.

Camilla sat in the front passengers seat with her legs resting on the blue vinyl dashboard. The steady noise emitting from the windshield wipers had her transfixed and if it weren't for the continual sobs coming from the back seat she could have easily fallen asleep. She turned around to face the women who had her hands over her face. She had been crying since they had to walk by all those dead security guards. Camilla guessed she thought if it happened to them it could happen to her two sons.
"You know crying wont help you find them!" Rayne said looking into the rear view mirror to gauge their reactions.
Camilla was mildly shocked by Rayne's slightly brutal tactics. Sure the continuous crying was annoying, but she was entitled to it.
The woman sniffled before glaring at the back of Rayne's head. Camilla stared at her for a moment.
"You know you're all really familiar," Camilla said staring at each individual one at a time.
"Oh god Camilla for crying out loud its Green day!" Rayne hissed. "I can't believe you off all people didn't fucking recognize them."
Camilla rolled her eyes at Rayne's remark before extending her hand to the lead singer.
"Sorry about that, My name's Camilla"
"I'm Billie Joe," said the man with black hair. "And this is my wife Adrienne"
The women smiled weakly her eyes red and puffy from crying.
"I'm Tre Cool", said the shorter guy in the back.
"Mike Dirnt," Said the taller man. He didn't even look at Camilla when he spoke. He just continued to stare out the window.
Camilla satisfied with the introduction turned around in her seat to face the window. The rain had started to let up and there was a hint of a sunrise in the east.
"We should go somewhere before the sun comes out," Rayne whispered to Camilla hoping the passengers in the back seat wouldn't hear.
"Where can we go?" Camilla asked scratching the back of her neck.
"I was kinda thinking Greyan," he lives around the corner doesn't he.
"Oh yeah," Camilla smiled. "I haven't sent that guy in years."

Rayne turned on her signal light and they pulled onto a quiet street. The homes were midsized very American dream style with the manicured front lawns and most likely the 2.1 children living inside. Of all the places for a Vampire to live Rayne was still oblivious to why Greyan chose here. She guessed he was trying to hold onto what ever shroud of humanity still existed in his mind.
"Where are we going?" Adrienne asked her voice hoarse and quiet.
" To visit an old friend of mine," responded Rayne. She stayed away from explaining they had to get away from the sunlight. She wanted to keep them in ignorant bliss as long as possible. She was unsure on how well they would take the whole living dead thing.
"Shouldn't we just call the police about this whole matter," asked Tre.
Camilla turned around in her seat. "Trust me this is beyond the police and their help." With that simple response she turned back around.

They pulled up to Greyan's house and parked in the open garage. Sure enough his home was a mirror image to the houses around it. It blended in perfectly, but Rayne was pretty sure the inside was quite a different story. Sure enough when she opened up the front door a musty smell hit her like a ton of bricks. Rayne coughed and sputtered before choking out. "Greyan, you home?"
A man who looked to be in his fifties poked his head around a corner. He had tuffs of graying hair and his face was worn and wrinkled. He wore thick rimmed glasses, a pair of paint splattered jeans and a clean ironed tweed jacket. All in all he was the ideal Hollywood image of a mad scientist.

"Rayne... is... is...that you," he stuttered adjusting his glasses.
Rayne's face broke out into a smile and she hugged the friend she had not seen in years.
"How have you been Greyan," she smiled.
"Nobody's called me that name in decades," he laughed to himself. "But I've been fine, and you?"
"Good," Rayne responded. "You remember Camilla don't you"
"How could I not," he smiled. "How have you been dear?"
"Good," said Camilla shyly.
"And who are these people?" Greyan asked eyeing the four warily.
"Mortals," Rayne whispered into his ear so she could not be overheard. "But they're not to be eaten. We have a serious problem on our hands that I thought you could assist us with."
Greyan looked at everyone in tern before clasping his hands together.
"Well, shall we go sit down," he grinned. "You all look exhausted."

Camilla led Billie, Tre, Mike and Adrienne into the living room while Rayne and Greyson went into the kitchen.
"They don't know we're vampires," Rayne admitted leaning against the blue tiled counter. "And I intend to keep it that way."
"Why are they in your company then." he asked running his wrinkled fingers through his thinning hair.
"Their children were taken," Rayne said. "By other Vampires, I think it was the brimstone society."
"But they signed the treaty, just like everyone else." Grayson said his eyes looking directly into Rayne's. "They can't go back on the agreement it was signed in blood."
"Well apparently an agreement is worth shit these days," Rayne growled as she watched Greyson fill a dirty glass with water.
"Rayne I highly doubt it was a vampire," Greyson chuckled to himself. "It's impossible."
"Camilla said she saw Jezebel just before she was knocked out," Rayne said here eyes glued to Greyson.
He immediately dropped the glass of water on the floor. It shattered into thousands of tiny pieces on the concrete surface.
"But... but...but," he stammered. "How can she be involved, she was the first to sign the agreement."
"I don't know, but I'm guessing her and some of her buddies found a loophole."

"RAYNE!" Billie Joe screamed from the living room.
The two immediately ran into the living room to find Camilla having convulsions on the floor. Her sunglasses had fallen off revealing pitch black eyes and her mouth was frothing at the corners.
"Shit. What the fuck happened," Rayne screamed sitting down beside Camilla.
"I don't know," said Tre nervously pacing around the room. "She just said she was tired and then she passed out... and what the hell is up with her eyes!"
"How long ago has it been since she last fed," asked Greyan.
"I don't know I met up with her four hours ago and before that I don't know" Rayne said frantically trying to hold Camilla down.

"Mommy, I'm scared," Camilla spoke. Her eyes had become completely white and she lay perfectly still on the carpet. All six adults spun around and stared wide eyed.
"That's... that's... Jakobs's voice," said Adrienne dropping to the floor.

"I don't know what you mean. Please I just want to go home," Tears were now dripping down Camilla's face as she continued to speak. "I JUST WANNA GO HOME!"
"What the hell is going on," asked Billie. "Is this you idea of some sick joke."
Camilla started to scream uncontrollable. "Please stop!" she screamed at the top of her lungs as tears poured from her eyes. Then she felt silent as her eyes closed slowly.
"Bloody hell," said Mike and everyone leaned in. "Is she still breathing?"

All of a sudden Camilla's eyes shot open making everyone jump back. They had become completely yellow except for a thin dark line which ran down the centre making them identical to those belonging to a cat. She opened her mouth and the voice that filled the room made the hairs on the back of Greyan neck stand on end. It was not Camilla's voice, it was not anyone they knew. The voice wasn't human.

"And pleasant is the mortal land
But an eerie tale to tell
Ay, at the end of a thousand years we pay a tithe to hell
I am Sae Fair and fu
O' flesh, I'm feared
It be myself"

Camilla's spin curved upwards as she inhaled deeply. Blood started to dribble from the corners of her mouth and her tongue became swollen causing her to choke. Her fists tightened ripping chucks from the shag carpet. Her veins were so constricted they had become blue and visible. She turned to look at Rayne with wide eyes. She grabbed onto the front of Rayne's shirt and pulled her within an inch of her face.
"Find Kaye!" she whispered blood pouring from her nose. With that Camilla's lifeless body fell onto the carpet and lay motionless.
Rayne listened helplessly as her friend's heart beat became weaker and weaker until it stopped completely.
