Can We Please Keep Being Friends?, chapter 1
*Gemma's POV*
"Ahhhh...stop! Please...please stop... hahaha... " I screamed. I almost rolled on the floor laughing, and that was Billie Joe's fault. Only his fault, and that's what I will tell the psychiatrists when they come to fetch me.
"Why should I? It's fun to tickle you!", he said sneering. I tried to bite his hand, but it didn't work. It was a hopeless situation. Suddenly he stopped tickling. I looked up, searching for the reason for his pity. I smiled. Mike and John were coming, and he didn't want to look ditzy. He harrumphed. "Hey". "Hey, dude." Mike an John said. For some moments there was silence. Then Mike asked "What were you doing before we arrived?". He looked amused. "I..I did nothing... ", Billie affirmed. "No, you just killed me." I said. We all laughed. "It's fun to hang around with you guys." I said. "We know... we know", John said in a suffering voice. We laughed again. At this moment we heard a ringing sound. The next lesson started. The four of us went to our classroom and took a seat. We were at the end of the room, no one was sitting behind us, the teacher couldn't see us very well... good. The lesson was fucking boring. Well, we didn't really care about the things Mrs. Helbourne said. Mike was drawing pictures into his exercise book and showed it to us, we almost died of laughing. Laughing quiet, of course, Mrs. Helbourne was a stern person, and we really didn't want to get an imposition or anything. This lesson was the last one, after we left the school grounds, we could do whatever we want. But before we could leave there were fifteen minutes History lesson. Of course no one of us has done his homework, and of course Mrs. Helbourne took Mikeo f all people to read to the class what he has written at home. Mike's missing homework was the last reason of a row. Mrs. Helbourne started shouting at the class, it was terrible. And we GOT an imposition. The four of us. "Thanks, Mike." Billie Joe whispered, after Mrs. Helbourne was back at the front of the room. "Shut up, asshole.", Mike spitted. "Be nice, little fucking Mikey" Billie continued bothering. "Do you want to tell us something, Armstrong?" Mrs. Helbourne asked peevishly. Uh-oh. The whole class waited for Bille's answer. "No, not really, thanks." Billie said cheeky. I stared at him kind of shocked. Was he crazy? Mrs. Helbourne almost goes off, and he is so fucking cheeky? Mrs. Helbourne looked like she really wanted to slap him in the face. But she didn't. She tried to calm down and said in a shivery voice: "I really need to talk to your parents, Billie Joe. Please tell them that they have to meet me on... er... Tuesday. Both of your parents." "My father died six years ago." Billie answered. His voice wasn't cheeky anymore. It almost shivered as much as Helbourne's voice. I almost stood up to go to Billie and hug him, I'm not able to abide if one of my best friends is sad. I didn't stand up. Maybe I'm a lousy friend. Mrs. Helbourne was shocked. "Oh..I..I didn't know... ", she stammered. "Oh, yeah. No one knows. Because no one cares about the Armstrong family. But when I did something wrong, then I exist, of course. Because you need someone to shout at, don't you? Someone you can blame for every fucking thing that happens on this fucking school!" Billie shouted. Oh my god. It was like he was going insane. Mrs. Helbourne kept silent. It seemed like she didn't know what to say. I looked at Mike and John. The three of us walked over to Billie. Mike embraced him, trying to comfort him. I didn't know what to say too, but I hoped that the words would come out right and started to talk. "Billie, we... you know, and I know you know, that we care about you and your family... maybe we can't help, but we surely not ignore you or anything like that... Mike values you a lot, John values you a lot... and maybe am a lousy friend, but I value you a fucking lot, too... I just want you to know that you can tell us if you need help, and we'll try to help you... please just think of that. We really love you. You're all we could want in a friend. Don't let this fucking teachers at this fucking school get you down, okay?" Just then I realized every person in this fucking room was looking at me. But I didn't care. It was the first time in my life I really didn't care about the fact that 25 people are staring at me. I tried to joke. "Well, what did I say? I hope it wasn't anything stupid. I really don't know what I just said." Billie wasn't smiling. That worried me the most. He always smiled when I joked. This time he just sat there staring at me. But his look was different from the look of my classmates. His eyes glowed warm and friendly. "Thanks." He whispered. He turned around and looked at Mike and John. "Thanks, guys. I..I really didn't know why I said that. I know you're real friends and you'll be there for me... thanks for all that... "
