Waking Up To Screams., chapter 2
They went over to the doctor who was standing outside of Jake's room talking to another doctor and a nurse. Billie Joe told Joey to go back to 80 and tell her they were going to go down to the cafeteria for a minute and meet Mike and Tre. They told the doctors what they thought had happened and then the doctors told them what was wrong with Jake.They had ran an MRI on him and found something that none of them would ever want.
"Oh my god. Is this true? She didn't want us to know. But why?" Billie Joe was ranting and started pacing the halls of the hospital.
"Daddy, what's wrong? What does a brain tumor do to you? Is Jake gonna be okay?" asked Joey worriedly.
A few moments later, Billie Joe had wiped his eyes and he and Joey were headed back upstairs with Tre and Mike to have a long talk with Adrienne.
"Okay, I know I seriously should have told you when this happened, but a few weeks ago when you were on tour in the east coast, I got a call from Jake's school and it was the nurse. She told me to hurry and get over there immediately, that Jake had fallen off on one of the playground equipment and hit his head. They called the ambulance as soon as I got there. That was a friday when Joey was going to ride home with Brandon from school and stay the night. The doctors told me that the fall had hit a specific spot on his head and hurt him really bad. I decided not to tell anyone, especially you, honey, because I know he's your little 'danger boy'. And tonight, I heard him fall down the stairs and when I got him, he was unconscious. I got really worried, and didn't want to wake you up because you would have wondered why a simple fall to cause unconsciousness. I am really sorry, and I know that you have to be mad at me, but I didn't want you to find out." 80 cried.
Billie Joe had almost fainted and was sitting on the floor with his head in his hands balling his eyes out. Mike and Tre were sitting in chairs with their jaws dropped and looked like they had just seen the Golden Gate Bridge collapse. Joey had his head leaning on Billie and was crying like no one had ever seen. Adrienne looked so disappointed, she got up and walked around the corner. Billie got up and ran after her. Mike motioned for Joey to come sit with him, and he went and they hugged each other and held on for a long time. BJ and 80, the inseparable couple of 11 years, were holding each other for dear life. It actually was, the life of their youngest son. Billie Joe had been through enough. First dealing with the death of his father which he probably never saw that much of anyway, then all the crap that Green Day had gotten from so unloyal fans who called them sellouts and disowned them. Then all the other shit that has been piled on top. Now, finding out that his 'danger boy' has a brain tumor, it was just the tip of the iceberg for Billie Joe.
