Bloody Mary, chapter 5

It was dark.

It was black.

It was red.

It was cold.

It was bloody.

That journey with Mary was unbelievable.

She is unbelievable.

And I loved her.

***

When we stepped inside the mirror, everything changed. Blood was splattered everywhere. There were houses with empty windows. Dead trees towered over us. The sky was black with a small vein of red running through it. A city was ahead of us. It was a living hell.

"Where are we?" I asked to myself.

"We are in the world of Dread and Death."

I stopped walking and stared at Mary. She had never spoken one word to me, until just then.

"You just-just-jus-"

"Shhhhh. I will tell you about the hell that I must face everyday of my life, you must listen."

Her voice was beautiful. Everything about her was beautiful. But the blood killed everything.

"This world is the world of Dread and Death. It is what lies on the other side of the mirror. I have lived here almost all my life. Well, until I was...stabbed. But this world is where suffering is. And I never wanted to be here. When I was stabbed, I was standing in front of a mirror. But not just any mirror. Your friend's mirror. I lived in that house...but I was...killed and woke up in this world. Everyone who is in this world was murdered in front of a mirror. Their souls never went to Heaven, and not Hell, but...here. And I do not want to be caught...because I am being forced to marry the Ruler of this place."

"But can't you just stay in reality? You can stay with me."

"No, it's not that simple. I must come back here because I can't survive in reality. I will disappear. And never come back. But you are here because...you're the first one that called me out of this world."

"But...why are you still covered in blood? Can't you wash it off?"

"No....the blood will stay forever. After all, I am Bloody Mary..."

After that last few words, she was gone. She ran away from me. Again. I wanted her to come back. I ran after her, but she didn't stop. I called her name, but she didn't call back. She ran to the forest where all of the bloody trees were drooping. I followed. She would not stop running. Neither would I. She turned a corner and...she was gone. I couldn't find her.

She was gone.

I didn't want that to be the truth.

I wanted her to pop out and run into my arms.

I would never let go of her.

I would make sure she was with me.

I wanted to tell her that I loved her.

But she was gone.

Gone.

And I wanted her back.

More than ever before.

She HAD to come back!

I loved her

And I needed her.

I never got to tell her that she was the one I loved.

I wanted her to know.

***

I sat on a tree stump and cried.

Sobbed.

For Mary.

I wanted her.

And she was gone.

I looked down through my tears to see...a red shoe. But not just ANY red shoe.

Mary's red shoe.

I picked up the shoe and cried once more.

I had to find her.

And I wouldn't stop 'till I did.
