Where Do Broken Hearts Go?, chapter 11
As the footsteps approached I got nervous for some reason. I pulled away from Billie Joe, and went to retrieve a pair of pants for him to put on.
"Don't worry about it. I always sleep in the nude." he said wiggling his eyebrows. I laughed and then laid back down, just as Mike came bursting through the door followed by Tre.
"HOLY FUCK!" Mike shouted, his eyes wide. "Damn Billie you didn't tell us you had company." His words didn't register in my head at first, that is until I looked up and saw him looking straight at me.
"I wanna see!!!" Tre said pushing Mike aside to get a good look at me. "Fuck tarts Billie! She's almost as hot as you." Billie's mouth dropped open and he looked at me, giving me a questioning look.
"You...you can see her?" Billie asked, still in shock.
"Billie-boy there's a gorgeous naked chick lying in bed next to you. All the hiding in the world and we'd be able to see her." Mike stated matter-of-factly.
"Yea dude. You know you didn't do a very good job hiding her." Tre said, he was staring so hard that his eyes looked as if they were going to pop out of his head. Billie Joe continued to stare into space for a bit then managed to snap out of his shock induced trance.
"Get the fuck out will you two morons?" Billie yelled. Tre and Mike giggled and then told us to make sure we came down for breakfast. Minutes later Billie and I were dressed and in the kitchen. I was more embarassed now then shocked, but I tried to pretend that it was perfect natural that all three members of Green Day had now seen me naked. I shook both Mike and Tre's hand and said, "Hi. I'm Charlie."
"Where did you and Billie meet? Last night?" Mike asked me, handing me a cup of coffee.
"Yes and do you have a sister?" Tre asked me wiggling his eyebrows.
I tried to gingerly take a sip of my coffee, but at Tre's comment I laughed so hard that the coffee almost came out of my nose.
"Well we-" I began after finally recovering from the burn of coffee in my nose.
"Actually," Billie interrupted. "We've been dating in secret for about three months now?" he said looking to me. I nodded and took another sip of coffee. "She flew in last night to meet you guys. I wanted to surprise you, and well, I guess I succeeded." Mike nodded, and before he could further interrogate me I excused myself to go to the bathroom. In the bathroom I splashed my face with cold water and closed my eyes, wondering what happened. When I finally did open them I was standing there in front of God.
"Your mission is complete my child." God said.
"No! I shouted. I need to stay on earth. Billie needs me...I need him." I said frantically, knowing that if my misson was over I'd have to leave Billie. He touched my shoulder.
"My child don't you understand?"
"Understand what?" I asked him. My eyes were stinging.
"They can see you. Everyone. You are mortal."
"I....I am? Bu...but how?" I said.
"When a mortal falls in love with an angel, he or she becomes mortal. And since mortals can see other mortals the angel can now be seen." he explained.
"But how am I going to live on earth. I...I died remember?" At this, He laughed.
"Once an angel is mortalized, I give them all they need to make it seem as if they have lived. You have records.- school records, hospital records, everything. You have a job, and clothes. But I figure you will move in with Mr. Armstrong, will you not?"
"Yes. Wait? I have a job?" I asked.
"Yes. You're a freelance photographer. Just like you wanted when you were a teenager." My eyes went wide and he smiled warmly. "Oh but you do have a new last name. Sinclair. You're Charlie Sinclair." I nodded.
"You understand you will no longer be allowed here in heaven?" I nodded at this too. I'd miss it here, but I knew my place was really with Billie Joe. "Go." he said. I went to close my eyes again to return to earth for good, but instead I ran up, tears in my eyes, and hugged God. After I pulled away I closed my eyes, but not before muttering "Thank you."
"Don't thank me." he said. "Thank Adrienne." And then I was back in the bathroom. When I rejoined Billie, Tre and Mike I learned that Billie already explained how we met. It wasn't completely true, but it also wasn't a complete lie. I managed to get Billie alone, so that I could explain to him that I was here to stay, and when I did he picked me up and spun me around and kissed me. That night when they bustled around, getting ready to board the plane, I found a suitcase and plane ticket that obviously was supposed to belong to me. It was a nice flight, I slept almost the whole way home, and when we landed Billie woke me gently by whispering "I love you" in my ear.
"I love you too Billie. With all my heart." I told him. I knew that he was my first true love, and the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
"Words can't express what you mean to me Charlie." he replied.
"Get a room!" Tre and Mike shouted unanimously...
