Where Do Broken Hearts Go?, chapter 7
Sun was shining through one of the tiny peep holes in the large yellow play tube I has been sleeping in the night before. I was soaking wet still from last night's downpour of tears and rain. My throat was dry and sore, my nose stuffy, and I had a headache the size of Manhattan. I sat up a little too quickly and smacked my head on the top of the tube. Damn it! I said out loud, as I rubbed my head. I hunched over and crawled out of the tube. Even though it was a dreary day, and was most likely going to rain again, the sunlight seemed much too bright to my sensitive eyes. I let my eyes adjust to the light a little before I tried to apparate to Taylor's. Problem was I couldn't apparate. Something was wrong. Hmmm I thought, deciding to try and change out of the wet clothes. I closed my eyes but it was a no go. Great. Just peachy. I get to walk! I sighed and began to walk. Within minutes it was pouring again. It poured the entire way to Taylor's house, and by the time I got there I felt worse then ever. I must have looked pretty bad too because Taylor nearly screamed when she opened the door.
"Charlie!" she gasped, her eyes going wide. "What happened? You look like death on crack hit by a train multiple times! Get in here out of the rain." She grabbed my arm and pulled me inside.
"Nice to see you too Tay. I couldn't apparate or change, something's wrong with my angel powers." I said as she disappeared into her room, emerging a few seconds later with a hoodie, a pair of boxers, and a pair of toe socks. I took them from her greatfully and retreated to the bathroom where I changed out of the wet clothes.
"Aren't you gonna ask me why I'm here?" I said looking at her quizzically.
"No. Billie Joe called. He figured you'd be here and when I said you weren't he was worried sick. I asked him what happened and he told me." She gave me a sympathetic look, then continued. "He said he was really sorry and he wanted to talk to you as soon as you got here, you know to make sure your ok."
"Oh yes cuz there's a possibility that I died....again." I said sarcastically. I noticed Taylor wince. "Sorry." I said to her. She nodded.
"Don't be so hard on him Char. He's just scared ya know?"
"He said awful things and I wouldn't care if I never saw him again." I said trying to be serious, but my eyes obviously gave me away because she just shook her head. It was then that I started to sob again. Taylor got up and brought me a pillow and blanket. She layed them on the couch and told me to sleep while she was at work, and to consider what she had said. I slept the whole rest of the day, and tried to consider going to Billie's to apologize or at least calling him to make sure he was ok. The contemplating, however got me nowhere, except stuck at Taylor's moping around for almost a week. One night I couldn't take it anymore, my apparition still wasn't working and there were some answers I needed and wanted, so I closed my eyes and tried to get back up to heaven. When I finally opened my eyes I was in heaven. In front of the man himself, and of course Gabriel.
"I can't apparate and I've failed my mission so can I please come home?" I said bluntly. God just looked at me and smiled. I still couldn't believe I was standing there in front of God, but that was besides the point.
"Charlie, do you know why angels loose their powers?" he asked me, still smiling.
"Because they're stupid and spend the night in a jungle gym in the pouring rain?" I supplied. This caused Him to full out laugh, and even the ever serious Gabriel cracked a smile.
"No. Angel's loose their powers because they are broken hearted."
"So you're saying I'm broken hearted? It was only a kiss. It mean nothing." I said, jumbling my words.
"Oh but it wasn't. You know as well as I do that you love him. You've loved him even before you even met him, and there is no denying it." he said.
"Ooook." I said pretending to sound unconcerned. Why I even bothered I don't know. It wasn't as if he had no idea what was gonna happen in the end anyways.
"And," he continued. "You won't get your powers back until you are ready to admit it." I opened my mouth to question him, but before I knew it I was sitting back in Taylor's living room. This si great, I thought. Just great. I began to cry again, though I didn't dare admit to myself why. That night Taylor was working the late shift so I didn't even have a shoulder to cry on. Yet another night in this long, awful week where I would cry myself to sleep...
