The Joke Is Over (Sequel to Late Night Partiers), chapter 24
All three of them left the hospital in quite a rush, who'd blame them they've been there for a while.
Tre held Emily close as people started walking towards them asking questions about what had happened and what had landed them in the hospital, also where'd Emily come from? They just ignored them and quickened their pace to jump into Billie Joe's car. Tre was in the back still holding Emily while Mike and Billie were up front.
Billie was silently cursing because he couldn't get his keys to get out of his pockets. Finally after a few minutes, Billie got his keys out, out them into the ignition, and drove off leaving a lot of people with unanswered questions.
"Mike, your staying at my house dude," said Billie keeping his eyes on the road.
"Why!?" said Mike seeming confused.
Billie glared at Mike, "Well... One reason is that you tried to kill yourself and almost killed yourself!"
"Billie, I'm a 34 year old man, I can take care of myself!" shouted Mike.
"Mike, fucking Dirnt!! You landed yourself in the hospital by slitting your wrists... Hell, if I didn't get there when I did, we would be digging your grave right now!!" shouted Billie Joe keeping his eyes on Mike and the road.
Tre's eyes darted back and forth between Mike and Billie as he gently lied Emily down in the seat then buckled her in. "Eh!?" Neither of them listened to him. "Hey." He said a bit louder. "HEY!! You two fucking retards in the front seat, shut the fuck up already!!!"
Billie pulled the car over and both of them looked at Tre, "OK, you have our attention."
Tre glared at both of them, "Why in the fuck are you two fighting!?"
"Because Mike doesn't understand why he needs to stay at my or your house," replied Billie Joe as Mike punched him in the arm.
"Stop it, damn it!!" shouted Tre. "I just can't handle it when you two fight like that!"
Mike and Billie looked at each other then back at Tre, "Well, we're sorry dude."
''Thank you," said Tre glancing at both of them then glared out of the window.
Changing the subject, Billie looked at Tre and asked, "So, whose gonna be keeping Emily?"
"I guess I am," said Tre. "The nurse said that if her family comes after her we can't do anything about it. If they want her, they can take her and we can't say nor do anything about that because they're their guardians by law."
Mike looked surprised at how intelligent that sounded, "So, what are you gonna do if they do decide to come and get Emily?"
Tre looked at his feet then Mike, "I guess I'll have to give her to them."
Billie started the car back up as the silence echoed through the car. All the way to Tre's house not one person spoke ever since Tre answered Mike's question.
"Well, I guess we'll see ya later, Tre," said Billie as Tre picked up Emily and got out of the car. "Take care of both of you guys, dude."
Tre nodded and smiled as Billie Joe drove off towards his house.
Billie looked at Mike, "I feel bad for leaving them alone like that."
Mike looked at Billie, "But you just can't leave me, can you?"
"Shut the fuck up!" shouted Billie parking the car in his drive way.
Mike glared at Billie as both of them got out of the car. Neither of them spoke a word until they walked through the front door.
"Oh My Gosh!! You're fucking home!!" laughed Adrienne hugging and kissing Billie Joe.
Billie smiled and hugged and kissed her back, "Hey baby... "
Mike smiled and asked, "Where's the boys?"
"They're both at their friends' houses," said Adrienne giving Mike a hug as well.
Mike and Billie nodded as Adrienne swung her arms around Billie's neck once more, "I missed you."
"Aw fuck I think I'm gonna be sick, " joked Mike gagging.
Adrienne smacked Mike as he walked into the kitchen to let them have some privacy in the living room. He walked slowly to the fridge to get something to drink. He opened and saw some Root Beer, "Sweet." Mike grabbed a root beer and sat at the kitchen table. Mike heard a thump in the living room and he said, "OK, I'm gonna step out back." Then he ran out of the back door into the back yard. Mike started laughing at himself as he lied right in the middle of the yard. Staring up at the sky he saw nothing, but a dark blue cover lying upon the sky with small stars shining brightly. He sighed at the thought of what has happened lately. "The stars are brighter than usual."
Then Mike heard a door shut and foot steps on the back porch, "Mike! Oh there you are." Then the footsteps got even closer and the next thing Mike saw was Billie standing above him blocking the stars. "Why are you out here?"
"Hmm..." Mike sat up weighing his 'pros & cons'. "Listening to you two....Lying outside watching the stars."
Billie laughed, "Oh my god!!" Then he sat beside of Mike. "You heard us!?"
Mike laughed as Adrienne walked outside laughing, "That was a funny one, Mike." She made her way to them then sat beside Billie. All three of them laughed as it got even later.
