The Joke Is Over (Sequel to Late Night Partiers), chapter 9
Mike spent all day writting replies until one of them read:
"My hand hurts, so, I'm gonna take a break from writting.."
Tre and Billie nodded.
Tre looked at Billie Joe and said," My eye sight is back.. I'm glad too."
"We all are," said Billie.
"What happened to you and Mike at the station anyways?" asked Tre.
Billie felt of the patched on the left part of his forehead, "Well, I beat the shit out of some dude named Off-asser Mickenly, then the Serge dude came in and beat me with something... I'm not sure what... It hurt like hell.. Then the last thing I remember was waking up with Serge staring at me and Mike was gone.."
"Oh.. Off-assers are ass holes," Tre smiled.
Mike just sat there and watched them talk. It killed him that he couldn't talk. Tre looked at the clock..
"It's 9:45pm... Damn I've been in here all day..." he said.
"You sure have.. You don't think the doctor would get mad do ya?" asked Billie.
"Nah, they can kiss it.. i don't care," said Tre. "Well I better go to my room just in case though... See ya guys..." Tre headed for the hall way..
"Billie you have a visiter.. Adie is here."
"Tell her to come on in, I need to see her!!" said Billie as 80 entered the room.
"Billie what the fuck happened!?" she said sitting in the chair between his and Mike's bed.
"Mike saved me from the police and got himself hurt in the process.. Someone beat the shit out of him in the cafeteria when he was in a wheel chair," said Billie holding Adie's hand.
She turned to Mike," Oh my god, are you OK?"
"He can't talk.. Ripped the ack of his throat some how..."said Billie.
"Oh my god.. I'm so sorry about these things happening to you guys.." said Adie holding both of their hands.
"It's not your fault," said Billie Joe.
"I should have came sooner but I couldn't find anyone to watch the boys," she said. "I couldn't have brought them and let them see you guys like this.. Tre seems to be doing fine, I passed him in the hall."
"He was partcially blind but his sight is back," said Billie.
Mike just sat there and listened to them talk. His throat was killing him and tears rolled down from his eyes but he didn't let them know. Mike just didn't move or do anything, until Billie saw a tear roll down his cheek. Mike looked at Billie and dried it off.
"Mike are you ok dude!?" asked Billie sounding really concerned.
Mike nodded.
"You don't look ok," said Adie.
Mike just frowned.
"It's hard seeing you two like this," said Adie. "I'm glad I didn't bring the boys."
"Mike has just had a harder time than we have," said Billie. "He's the hero though.. Tre walked through this hospital blind as a bat yesterday trying to find us... A nurse helped him though."
"She seems really nice," said Adie.
"She is really nice.. Her name is Keira I think. She chased off Serge and helped us in every way she could, she;s the one who helped Tre into here," said Billie looking at Adie.
**Mike's POV***
My fucking throat hurts, but I can't let Billie see me like this. It'll just make it worse for him. I need something for it though. It hurts so bad it's affecting the way I breathe. Maybe I should tell them, well, get their attention.
I picked up the note pad a scribbled down, "My throat hurts and it's making it hard to breathe." Then I started poking Adie.
"Yeah, Mike?" she looked at me and took the note pad. "Shit why didn't you write us before?"
"What is it!?" asked Billie as Adie showed him the note. "Why didn't you tell us dude? We'll get the nurse for ya.."
Adie got up and went to find a nurse and Mike's pain got worse. Another teared rolled down his cheek as a nurse came in with Adie. It wasn't just any nurse, it was Keira.
She walked over to Mike and said, "Open wide.." She examined his mouth and said, "His throat is swelled up is why it's hard to breathe.." She walked out of the room and came back with a shot. "This should help, but it'll hurt." She injected Mike and said, "It should help with the pain and swelling. The shot may make you a bit sleepy too.. If you need anything, just get me.. I'll be down the hall at the nurses station."
Keira said her good byes and Adie sat back down in the chair. She tried her best to make sure Mike was comfortable. She held both, Mike and Billie's hand until he finally fell asleep..
