Violence of Summer, chapter 40

September 2002

Three very tired and worn out Green Day members were sat in a hotel room watching each other carefully. The tension between the friends had become so immense over the past couple of months that each and every one of them knew that there wasn't much chance of them recording any new material soon. Mike took his packet of cigarettes out of his pocket pulling out a cigarette before popping it in his mouth and lighting it with his lighter.

"Don't you think we should get going?" He said blowing out the smoke taking the fag out of his mouth. "We might as well get it done and over with."

Billie sighed sitting up heavily ruffling his short black hair. "Yeah let's go. It's only across the hall right?"

Tre sat up stretching his arms above his head looking back at his two friends. "I don't know what you two are so grumpy about. It's only a magazine interview. Like we haven't done them thousands of times."

Mike stood up as Billie followed suit and they made their way over to the door of their hotel room. "Who said we were grumpy?" Billie said cocking an eyebrow.

"Like I can't tell." Tre said rolling his eyes. "I've known you two for over fifteen years you don't think I can tell when you don't wanna do something?"

"Well we haven't got a choice." Mike said plainly. "We just go in there and do our thing and then we can all go home it's that easy. It's not like we're not getting paid for it."

"Yeah and it doesn't look like 'Warning' is giving us any dough." Tre scoffed putting his hands in his pockets.

"You're never satisfied with anything." Billie grumbled. "It would be nice not to hear you complain for once."

"I'm not complaining." Tre shrugged. "I'm simply stating a fact Billie Joe. I also have a family to supply for."

"Oh I'm sorry, Mr 'I just knocked up another girl and married her yet after only a year my marriage is already falling apart'." Billie said sarcastically.

"That's a bit harsh. Like you're marriage is so perfect-o." Tre said sourly.

"Would you two shut up?" Mike groaned as they came outside the hotel room door where they were going in to have their interview with the Rolling Stones magazine. He turned around to look at the two men that were bickering as they looked back at him. "You really do my fucking head in sometimes. For once... co-operate!" He turned back round and knocked on the door loudly before muttering... "I think I'm the only sane one left in this band... "

They waited for an answer when finally someone shouted a 'come in!' from inside.

"Ah thank god. It's a chick." Tre sighed as Mike opened the door and they made their way in. Tre shut the door loudly behind him as Mike stuffed his hands inside his pockets waiting for someone to appear as they stepped further into the room. There was a large table in the middle of the room and behind the table there was a huge window over looking the London scenery.

"This room's nicer than ours." Billie muttered. "Why is it that always happens?"

"Where the fuck is this girl?!" Tre said loudly.

"I'm here." A feminine voice suddenly said from behind them. A feminine voice with an American accent...

The boys turned around lazily looking at the girl that came further into the room. Mike took his hands out of his pockets watching the girl closely. Something about her was just... un-canny. Dark jet black hair, fair soft skin... but it was those blue eyes that gave it away. It can't possibly be...

"Oh my god Sid?" Billie breathed.

"It took you long enough! I know the hair's a bit drastic and everything but jeez boys! No need to gape!" she laughed.

"Holy SHIT!" Tre screamed. "It is Sid!"

She rolled her eyes still laughing at them. "No shit Sherlock!"

"Jesus Christ... " Mike whispered.

"Boy have you changed!" Billie said loudly. "I mean look at you Sid. You're all womanly now! What the fuck are you doing here!? We're supposed to be getting interviewed!"

"I am you interviewer dip shit!" Sid said going forward giving them each a hug.

They all frowned at her as she sighed out heavily. "I work for the Rolling Stones magazine! So I wasn't gonna pass up on it was I? Surprised?"

"Surprised!?" Billie repeated in a high voice. "We haven't seen you in six years! Of course we're surprised!" he went forward hugging her again.

Sid smiled hugging him tightly as Tre nudged Mike raising his eyebrows. "Can you believe it!?" he whispered quickly before joining in the hug.

"Ouch Tre, your squeezing me really tight."

"Oh sorry... " Tre grumbled pulling back.

"So... I mean... what the fuck... explain yourself girl." Billie said pulling back from the hug.

"Explain myself?" Sid repeated raising an eyebrow. "Explain yourselves more like. Don't think I don't know how many times you've been in the country! Thanks for the visits!" she said sarcastically.

"Yeah but we had no idea where you were or anything... " Tre said quickly.

"Bad, bad excuse!" Sid chuckled going over to the bar. "Mr Armstrong could've asked the wife and I'm pretty sure one of you could've asked Charlie!"

"Sid we're really sorry." Billie admitted.

"Yeah... " Tre and Mike mumbled.

"Forget it." Sid said rolling her eyes. "Do you guys want a drink?"

"Fuck yeah." Tre said going forward quickly. As the two of them began discussing random drinks Billie took a quick glance at Mike.

"You okay?" he whispered. Mike looked at him raising an eyebrow.

"Fine... "

"You don't look it."

"I'm just a bit shocked."

"Aren't we all?"

"You wouldn't understand." Mike scoffed. He avoided any more of the conversation going over to join Sid and Tre at the bar as Billie just watched for a few seconds before joining in the conversation.
