Untitled, chapter 6
Even though Billie was madder than hell, he didn't drive like it. After all, driving this fast was what got him in this position in the first place. Or so he thought.
Why was this happening to him? The conversation he had just overheard replayed in his mind over and over again. It mixed with the last memory he had as Billie Joe Armstrong, when Adrienne was holding his hand for the final time. She was crying, she looked as if she really didn't want to see him go. Then why was she in some coffee shop with his best friend? What the hell was that? It wasn't mourning.
Then it dawned upon him. He had nothing. He'd lost Adrienne, his sons, his career, his friends... His life. There was nothing to live for anymore. There was a time when he used to look forward to the future, growing old with Adrienne, watching his sons become husbands themselves. Becoming a grandfather. But now... Nothing. It had all been taken away so quickly.
Billie made a sharp turn. He could feel the car go on two wheels. This didn't phase him, so what if the car crashed? What has he to live for?
As that thought crossed his mind a tiny black box flew out of the glove compartment. It landed on the passenger seat, perfectly sitting up straight. Billie slammed on his breaks at what he just saw. The car that had been driving behind him turned his stirring wheel just in time to avoid Billie's car, honking at him as he drove pass.
Billie reached over to the box. Picking it up, he held it in his hand. Billie opened the box and felt his heart sink.
It was a plain diamond ring. There was nothing too special about it. But inside the box was inscribed:
To our new life together, my love Christy.
His breath was taken at that point. He new what the ring was for. Jon was to propose to Christy. He never got the chance.
From the rear view mirror in front of him, Billie was blinded by a light coming directly towards him from behind. By the time he realized he was about to be struck by on coming traffic it was too late. The semi behind him collided with his car. Billie felt his car crush completely around him.
And was taken once again by the bright light.
