Untitled, chapter 7

Billie opened his eyes only to see the same white light he had been getting used to. But this time there was no hospital bed or Christy waiting beside him. There was nothing, nothing but the bright light.

"Billie?"

His thoughts were interrupted. He looked around, searching for any clue of where this voice was coming from.

"Billie. How are you feeling?" The voice asked him. There was no one around him. Who was asking him this?

"Actually... The best I've felt in a while." He answered. It was true. He felt better than ever. Billie looked down to his hands. He noticed the scar on his hand was gone. His hands were his own. He looked to his arms and saw all the tattoos were back. What did this mean? He was himself again?

"You are yourself Billie." The voice answered his question. Did he say that out loud?

"You can't even imagine how many people ask that question. No, you didn't say that out loud. Up here we can hear each other's thoughts." The voice answered him again. Billie looked straight ahead. Where the hell was this coming from? What the hell was going on?

"Billie. Do you understand what has happened over the past few days?"

Not really. He knew Adrienne was gone. That's all he needed to know.

"Yes. Adrienne is gone. She's with someone who can take care of her now. I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this. That wasn't the first time she found faith in Mike."

What? She'd been with him before?

"I'm afraid so."

Who am I talking to? How do you know what Adrienne has been doing? Show yourself!

The bright light became even brighter as a bright figure stepped forward. As the light started to fade, Billie noticed who the figure was.

"Jon?"

"Yes. I'm Jon, the life you took over after I passed."

"I took over?"

"I supposed you would like to know the story then. Billie, you took control of my life after I was killed. Months and months ago I had bought the ring you found in the car for Christy, I wanted to propose to her. She made my life whole, I love her more than life itself. Days after I bought the ring however, the doctors informed me of my condition. I had cancer with only a few months to live. I didn't tell Christy, I feared it would break her heart. So I put the ring away. I didn't want to make her a widow. We were to enjoy our last moments together without the complication. Well, I was miserable with the thought of her not knowing love. Now tell me, were you as happy with Adrienne as you wanted to be?"

Billie thought for a minute. He came to the realization of his true feelings.

"No. We fell out of love."

"I didn't want Christy to do the same. So I prayed for someone to come and keep her happy. It was answered. So I died, and you took over."

"You trust me to take care of Christy?"

"My love lives on in you. Soon you will forget you life and the pain you once knew. Please, Christy deserves to be happy." At this Jon handed the tiny box back to Billie. He took it without question.

"Take care of my Christy."

Billie smiled. The light around them got brighter and just as soon as he came, Jon was gone. Billie noticed the light growing faint. The white becoming mixed with red, he started hearing voices around him. Then a sharp pain in his chest as if being sprung back to life.
