Basketcase, chapter 1

I woke up to the sound of glass shattering. 'Not again' I thought. Ever since mom's divorce she's been through a string of bad relationships. Here comes the end of this one.

I rolled over and looked at the clock. It was only twelve; I still had a few more hours of sleep. I closed my eyes and tried to think back to a time when dad was still here. Back to when life was perfect... I drifted into a sweet dream.
*********
School had just ended. "DADDY!" I yelled as I ran into his arms.
"Hey sweetie!" he said like usual. "Happy Birthday! I can't believe you're seven already! Why didn't you tell me you were gunna grow up so fast?"
"At least I'm not old like you!" I remarked
"Hey! Now you're gunna get it!"
"NOOOOO!!!!" I screamed trying to escape. "OK, OK! I take it back!" I managed to say between fits of laughter. Dad released his hold on my ribs. I walked to the car holding his hand, trying to rid of the hiccoughs.
We rolled up to a stop sign and dad turned around. "I have an idea! Let's go get ice cream!"
I nodded my head vigorously and continued to sing along to Brittany Spears. As dad drove through the intersection I looked out the window. "DADDY! LOOK OUT!"
**********
I woke up in a cold sweat. It had been almost seven years since the accident. I sat up and studied the scar on my left shoulder.

Three years after dad died mom remarried. She divorced him a few months ago. Her latest boyfriend was a jerk.

I rolled over and the clock read 5:30. Damn, time to get up. School was like prison for me. I had one close group of friends. All the popular kids picked on us and tried to beat us up. Most of their attempts failed because we always backed each other up.

So I got ready, put on my headphones and walked out the door. I stuck in a Green Day CD and sang along as "Basket case" blared through my headphones. "Do you have the time to listen to me whine, about nothing and everything all at once?" I felt like I had no one to talk to, well there was Ashley, but once high school started we would have to go our separate ways. Oh, I couldn't wait for high school. A big place where no one knew about my past... I could always talk to Billie Joe, but right now they were off on tour for their new album. I had known him my whole life, the boy across the street. Damn, I miss them... Tre could always cheer me up, Mike was great for advice, and Billie would listen to me no matter what he was doing. But they didn't come back for another month.

I ran into the classroom just as the late bell rang, and found that Ashley had saved me a seat. "Quiet down everyone. It's time to pass in you're assignment from last night."
Great... forgot to do my homework again... homework room... again. The schools new policy really sucked... if you don't do your homework you stay after school to finish it. As the teacher wrote my pass, I new today was not going to be one of my best days.

That was before he walked in...
