Cause She's 2,000 Light Years Away (A Mike Dirnt Story), chapter 16

Eleanor sat on the couch and watched the band practice. She smiled at Tre's crazy expressions as he hit the drums. On the other hand, Billie was nodding his head to the beats whilst strumming his guitar. Then, she turned to Mike, he was playing the bass like usual but she could see the difference. There was a light and excitement when the old Mike played but now, there's only excitement.

Eleanor had been watching the three guys all the time, especially Mike. She could not bear knowing that her death had caused another person's happiness. The others had slowly accepted the fact but Mike still had problems coping with the death. She walked towards him and stood at his side. How much she wanted to touch that hair, that face and those lips. She wanted to hug him again and feel his warmth but it could never happen anymore. So, she stood there the whole time and watched.

As the practice ended, Mike went out. Eleanor followed him until she realized that he was heading to the hill side. He sat on the grass and stared up the velvet black sky upon which diamonds had been spilled and a lopsided moon. She sat beside him and admired the sky.

A moment later, she turned to Mike, tears were streaming down his face and he frantically wiped them away. "Eleanor," he called. "I miss you so much."

"I miss you too, Mike," she replied beside him and hoped that he could hear her. Another moment of silence passed, "ELEANOR?!" She turned to Mike and saw those ocean blue eyes were looking directly into hers. She blinked and looked at him again. He was still staring at her. "Mike?" He grabbed her shoulders. She was surprised at his grasp. "You can see me?"

He nodded and pulled her to a hug. He held her to him, never wanting to let go of her again. She wrapped her arms around him. She never felt this happy since a ling time ago. "I miss you too, Mike."

"I love you, Elle." He let her go, so that he could study her more clearly but his hands still rested on hers. "I'm glad you are here now." He hugged her again.

"Erm... Mike, I need to breathe."

"Oh, I'm sorry." He let go of her. "I just can't believe this. You are here all this time? I thought I'll never see you again."

She smiled. "Actually, how did you see me?"

"I don't know. I was sitting here than I turned to my side and saw you sitting right here." He looked confused.

"Oh, okay. That's strange. No one ever notices me after... You know."

He nodded. "Well, I'm just glad that you are here now." He pulled her closer and they sat under the sky, looking at the city below. A breeze stirred her hair, cool and pine-scented; she reached up to tuck a stray behind her ear. "Let's go and meet the guys," Mike suggested. She nodded and they walked up the hill to his scooter, holding each others hand.

She hopped onto the scooter behind Mike and wrapped her arms around his waist as the sped back to town. The wind blew past their faces; she leaned on Mike's back and closed her eyes. The scooter came to a halt, she opened her eyes and let Mike go as she stood and walked up the stairs to the house.

Mike unlocked the door. "Guys, I'm back and see who's here?" Billie and Tre's head popped up from the couch and looked at Mike. "Mike, are you drunk again?" Billie asked worriedly.

"Can't you see, Elle's here." Mike pointed at Eleanor.

"Erm... Mike. I think we need to talk," Billie said. Mike looked puzzled and went over to the couch. He sat down whilst Eleanor stood beside him. Billie switched off the television. "Hey!" Tre shouted in protest.

"Tre, this is serious." Billie turned to Mike again. "I know you miss, Elle a lot. We all do. But you just had to accept it. Mike turned to Eleanor and shrugged. "Okay, Billie. I want to go to bed now. Good night." He stood up and walked back to his room with Eleanor beside him. Billie looked at Mike as he left. 'I know how you feel, Mike, ' he thought and switched on the television.
