Two Twins, Their Idol, And A Green Day Competition, chapter 8
They sat down beside me, I saw shoes on the ground, I knew it was a guy. He cupped my chin in his hands and pulled my head up, his face came into view, he looked concerned. I looked at him, those bright green eyes he usually had were dulled with concern. He placed his thumbs under my eyes and wiped my tears away.
"What's wrong?" he looked into my eyes.
"It's my parents." I replied. "They're... they're, they're dead!" I burst into tears again. I lay my head on his shoulder and cried. I felt safe in his arms I wanted this moment to last forever. I felt him stroking my head.
"It's ok, let it all out, it's good to cry." He said, he continued to rock back and forth and made shushing noises.
After a while I pulled my head up and looked at him.
"Yeh I know I don't really like them because they left, but they're still my parents." I said, I was still crying. I was shaking uncontrollably, Billie tried to stop me from shaking but it didn't work.
"I can't really say 'I know how you feel.' Because I don't, but you probably know, I lost my dad when I was 10." He grabbed a picture and showed it me.
"You can defiantly see him in you." I said, smiling.
"It follows you for the rest of your life. I never forget him, he's always there in my mind, and your parents will be in yours and Hannah's too." He said. I stared at him.
"Hannah! How am I supposed to tell her?" I said looking at him, tears rolled down my cheeks again.
"I'll help." He said.
"Thanks." I replied, putting my head on his shoulder again. He put his arms around me and pulled me into a hug.
"Come on." He said, holding my arm. "Don't you think you should tell her?" he said. We walked towards the door, Billie opened it. I saw Hannah having fun, being chased by Tré around the room.
"I can't tell her now." I said. "It will spoil the whole night." I said.
"Don't you think she'd want you to tell her now?" Billie asked.
"Yeah she probably would, but I cant spoil her night for her." He nodded.
"When you're ready, I'll be here for you, when you tell her, for support." He said.
"Thanks." I said. "I bet you I look a mess!" I looked in my bag and pulled out some wipes. I wiped the running eyeliner from my eyes and searched for my replacement.
"Shit" I said. "I've left my eyeliner on the table in your house!"
"Well we can't get it now!" He laughed.
He walked back into his dressing room. He returned with something in his hand.
"Here, this is the one I use." He handed me the eyeliner.
"Thanks." I said, as I walked into his room and stood in front of the mirror. I did the bottom just right, thick on the outside corners going in thinner. I did the top,
"It looks shite." I frowned.
"Come here!" Billie said, he rolled his eyes and sighed, he took the eyeliner off me and started to apply it to my eyes. He was gentle, his hands were soft against my face.
"There." He said after a short while. I looked in the mirror, my make up looked exactly the way his does on posters and stuff.
"Hmm, a guy who can apply make up well. Interesting." I said. I saw him smile.
"Well I have to do mine most days, so I kinda got good at it." He laughed. I smiled at him.
"Come on, we've got to get ready, we're on in 10." He said as he pulled me out of the room.
"Come on BJ." Mike said as he handed Billie his guitar.
"Vicki, grab my acoustic will ya? And Hannah grab me other guitar."
"Okay!" Me and Hannah said in unison.
"Just put them on the stands just as you walk on stage. Then Vicki you sit on the left hand side of the stage and Hannah you on the right." Billie said.
"Don't listen to any of the fans, they'll probably curse at you but ignore 'em." Mike said.
"Oh and you'll be needing these." Billie said as he handed Hannah and I green cards on strings 'VIP' they said on them. They were signed by all three of the guys.
There were five shots of vodka on the table, Billie picked on up and handed it to me, then gave one to Hannah.
"We're under age, we have to be 21 here, right?" I said. Billie looked at me,
"Does it look like I care?" He smiled.
"321 goo!" Tré said. We all threw back our shots, I coughed,
"Wow! That's good." I said. Billie laughed,
"Come on!" he said, he lead us onto the stage. Thousands of fans screamed, most of them looked at me and Hannah in disbelief.
"Hannah!" Billie said over the noise. "Do you know my tradition?" he said.
"What the guy kissing thing?" she replied.
"Yeh, take this mic and ask 'em, 'Who wants to do it.'" He said. Hannah took the mic off him.
"Hello Miami! Who wants to kiss Billie Joe?" She said. A load of girls put their hands up.
"Sorry girls, its only the guys!" A load of hands went down. There was a young guy, he must've been around 25, he was dressed in pink and he still had his hand high up in the air.
"You there pinky, you, up here now." Hannah said. The guy came racing up onto the stage. Billie grabbed him and kissed him. Everyone cheered. The guy was jumping from foot to foot waving his hands about saying,
"Oh my God, Oh my God, I kissed him, I kissed him!" Billie took the mic off Hannah.
"Now get off my stage you fucking pansy!" Billie Said. The guy was escorted off the stage by security. I sat down on the stage and Hannah sat on the other side.
Billie, Mike and Tré played some of their songs from American Idiot and they played 'Longview' and 'King for a Day.' Then a familiar tune started to play, it was 'Minority' This will be my bit soon, I thought.
After the third chorus and in the little instrumental bit, the guy came up to me and handed me Billie's harmonic, the same one I had played earlier that day, this was the best day of my life. I got up and walked over to Billie who grabbed his harmonica in his mouth and winked at me, I smiled back at him. I went and sat back down on the stage all the girls, as far as I could see, were just scowling at me, I just smiled and looked at Billie.
After 'Minority' they played 'We are the champions' then the music stopped.
"Vicki, Hannah, come over here." Billie said. we got up and went over to him.
"Who can play guitar?" Billie asked, hundreds of hands shot up.
"You pick." He said to me. I scanned the mosh pit.
"The guy with blonde hair, with the 'Nimrod' tee." I said.
"Go fetch him then." Billie replied. I jumped down off the stage and grabbed the guy by the wrist. I walked him up the stairs. Billie handed him a guitar and told him to stay there.
"Bass guitarists?" Billie questioned. Hannah picked that one, and Tré picked the drummer, a girl. No surprise there! Billie taught the guitarist how to play 'Knowledge.' While Tré taught the drummer and Mike taught the bassist. They played, then Billie told them to sit on the front of the stage with Hannah and I, so that he could give them something. Then he chose some other random people, invited them up on stage and talked to them for a bit. Then they all went back stage with Mike, Tré and Jason. We followed. Because we had gathered that Billie was going to play 'Good Riddance.' But Billie stopped us and pointed to two chairs either side of him. I sat on one and Hannah sat on the other. He gave us both a hug and a kiss on the forehead and started to play...
"Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go... "
When he had finished he took both our hands and led us off stage.
"That was great." I said to him.
"Yeh!" Hannah said. The people who were invited up on stage were backstage with Mike, Tré and Jason. They guys gave them each a set of signed drumsticks, signed picks and signed photos with frames and COA's. this one girl got them to carve their signatures into her arm! They did it of course. She didn't show any pain but it must have hurt though. They did it hard enough so it would scar too!
After the fans had gone, there was only one thing on my mind, Hannah. Billie Joe shooed the other three out of the room so it was just Billie, Hannah and I.
"Hannah." I began, "Sit down, I've got something to tell you." I looked at Billie, he put his arm around my shoulder and nodded for me to go on.
"Hannah, it's mum and dad, they're dead. They died in a car crash." I said fighting back the tears.
"Leave me alone." She said. Billie and I walked out of the room. I sat on the couch and started to cry. Billie sat next to me and comforted me again. I just sat there for ages nestled in his arms. The door finally opened Hannah appeared, her tear strained face. She walked over to me, we just hugged each other.
"Are we going back to the hotel now Billie?" Hannah asked.
"Yeh okay, I'll drop by tomorrow and pick up the stuff." He said.
We all got in the van, the journey back to the hotel was long and silent.
"What's wrong?" he looked into my eyes.
"It's my parents." I replied. "They're... they're, they're dead!" I burst into tears again. I lay my head on his shoulder and cried. I felt safe in his arms I wanted this moment to last forever. I felt him stroking my head.
