Break The Silence, chapter 1
My name is Rachel, and this is my story about my life. I'm a roadie for a band called Green Day. The three members are like brothers to me. Well, one of them is my brother. Alright, so my full name is Rachel Wright, but everyone calls me Rachel Cool. My brother's Tre' Cool, the drummer and clown of Green Day. There's Mike Dirnt, the bassist and back-up vocals. Then there's Billie Joe, the guitarist and lead vocals. Okay, I must admit, I do have a small crush on him. Problem is, he's married to Adrienne Nesser, and she is my best friend. Well, I suppose I should quit my rambling and get on with the story.
"Rachel, wake up and get ready! We are going to the studio today! I don't want to be late like last time!" my brother yelled from downstairs. I yelled back, "That was your fault! I wasn't the one getting drunk at the bar now, was I?!" I got up sleepily, groaning a bit. I never had to go to practice, I wanted to. I loved the sound of Billie Joe's voice, the clash of the drums, the strumming of the bass. I also liked to see the boys, my best friends in the entire world. I'd probably die without the band.
So, I got my lazy butt up and got into some clothes: a black short sleeve shirt, jeans, and a red tie. I looked at myself in the mirror, then took off the tie. It reminded me too much of Billie Joe.
Me and Tre' arrived at the studio somewhere around 8:00, pulling into a parking space in his white and black BMW. We entered through the glass doors, I was laughing at Tre's idea of dying his hair bright pink and wearing a dress at the next concert. Then Mike suddenly came up and hugged me! I blinked for an awkward minute, and he laughed and let go, a smirk on his face, "Scared you!" I laughed, punching him on the shoulder playfully, "Why you little..." Tre' piped up, "Little what, eh Rach?" I turned on Tre', smirking, "Oh yeah? And how many girls have you hit on today?" Tre' turned bright red. Then Billie entered the room. I got butterflies in my stomach as always when I saw him, but smiled pleasantly, "Hello Billie." I said. Tre' rose an eyebrow at this odd behavior, but Billie didn't seem to notice. He looked at me and smiled a bit, "Hello again Rachel." He then looked at Mike and Tre', "Alright, shall we go meet Rob in the mixing room then?" Tre' shrugged, walking into the mixing room. Mike looked at me for a minute, then followed my brother. Billie motioned for me to follow him into the small hallway to the right. People only came into this hallway to tell secrets or to criticize their music. I had a feeling he didn't want to criticize my music. All of a sudden, he fell into my arms, sobbing loudly. I blinked, setting him down on the floor against the wall, and sitting down as well. He leaned over and hugged me, not a hard task considering the hallway was so narrow. I patted his back, talking in the most soothing voice I had, "Billie.. what happened?" I managed to hear his words through the sobbing, "Adie... we... we... had a fight..." I gasped: Billie and Adrienne loved each other so much, I couldn't imagine them fighting. I sighed, rubbing his back, not knowing what else to do. Surely Mike and Tre' would've wondered where we are by now, I thought. "Well, Billie... tell me the details..." I said, knowing that telling others what happened usually helps a lot. He calmed down a bit, then told me,
"Well, I got up early as usual, fixed up some coffee, and made the kids breakfast. I then went outside with a cigarette, lighting it and smoking it for a bit. Adrienne must have heard me close the door, and she came out and yanked the joint out of my hand. "You're smoking too much, eventually you are going to get lung cancer and not be able to sing! Set a good example for the kids!" I was already in a bad mood, and getting yelled at and having my cigarette thrown on the floor made me madder, "Speak for yourself! I don't go out parting almost EVERY NIGHT!" I yelled. I went back inside, slamming the door shut. I picked up Blue and my bag, walking towards the door. Adie came up behind me, "Oh, now you're going to that stupid band practice. Sometimes I wonder if you care about us, your family!" I couldn't take it. I slammed the door and got in my car without saying goodbye."
He suddenly broke out into loud crying and I tried to get him to be quiet so the others didn't find us. I hugged him tighter, "Aww, you and Adie have gotten through a little fight like this before..." Billie shook his head, "But... she mentioned divorce this time."
