Break The Silence, chapter 3
When we arrived at Mike's restaurant, Mike was standing outside waiting for us, with a huge grin on his face. He was holding a lit cigarette in one hand, but he threw it on the ground and stamped it out when Tre' started talking to him, "It's the Dirnt!" he said, grinning. They did their stupid handshake thing, Mike laughing at Tre's nickname for him. I always thought they were odd. Mike hugged me for the second time today, though this one seemed just like a friendly one. "Hey Rach." he said and smiled warmly. I looked around, "Hey, where's Billie Joe?" Tre' shrugged, "He said he couldn't come." Well, that shows that Billie didn't tell them yet. We went inside and sat at a table, and one of the waiters came up, "Can I get a drink for anyone?" Mike glanced at Tre', and Tre' nodded. Then at the same time, they both said, "Beer." I could have beer as well, but someone had to drive these drunk idiots home, "Coke please." The waiter nodded and moved on. Tre' looked at me, eyebrows lowered, "Rach, are you hiding something from us?" Aha, I planned what to say to that in the car. I gasped, "No Tre'! I would never hide something from you guys!" Worked like a charm. Mike settled back in his seat, "I believe it." he said. Tre' shrugged, thinking the same thing as Mike is what it looked like. I stood up after a few minutes of silence, "Excuse me..." I said and walked to where the bathrooms are. When I came out of the restroom, Mike was outside of it, leaning on the wall. I raised an eyebrow, "Waiting for someone?" I must've scared him, he jumped like a foot in the air. "Uh! Rachel!" I nodded, "Yeah?" He glanced around, then said to me in a hushed voice, "Uh... I was wondering if you could... Uhh... Go to the mall with me on Saturday..." I looked amazed, and tried to hide it, "Uh... You mean like... A date?" Damn, I thought. I wanted Billie and got stuck with Mike. He quickly shook his head, "No, no, I just err... Don't want to face the fan girls alone?" he sounded unsure. I smirked, "Alright." Mike perked up so much it was scary. We walked back to the table, and I swear he was trying to hold my hand.
When I sat down at the booth, Mike slid in the booth to sit next to me. Tre' looked awfully suspicious. Then it hit me. How the hell am I going to explain this to Tre'?! Even if I got Mike not Billie, I would have to explain this to him. If I broke up with either one of them, Tre' would hate whoever it was. Argh. Why did I always have to get in these messes? The waiter came up then, setting the drinks on the counter. I picked my glass up, sipping the coke slowly, "So," Tre' said, "I made up a new riff for that song we were playing today." he took a CD out of his pocket, sliding it across the table to Mike. Mike grinned stupidly again, not looking like he understood what Tre' said. He took the CD, putting it in his pocket. I glanced at Mike for a minute, then at Tre', "Uh, Tre', Mind if I go to the mall tomorrow? I really need some new clothes." Mike got all excited-looking, and Tre' shrugged, "I don't care, it's not like I'm your dad." He was right, I lived by myself and everything, why was I telling him I was going to the mall? I just nodded dumbly. The waiter came back and asked us what we wanted to eat. I looked at the menu while Tre' ordered, "Eh... I'll have a hamburger." he said. "Salad." I ordered, handing the waiter the menu. "I'll have the same." Mike said, and smiled. "Err, on second thought, I'm not hungry." I said. The waiter nodding, taking the menus and leaving. Mike gave me a 'what was that for? ' look, and I just turned to Tre', shaking my head a bit. I stood up, getting out of the booth, "Er, I'm going home now if you guys don't mind. I have some work to do." Mike just nodded, Tre' shrugged, "You're going to have to walk. I'm not letting you drive my car." I rolled my eyes, then walked out of the restaurant.
My house wasn't far away, considering how small the town is. It was dark out by the time I got home. I reached into my bag, pulling out my keys. I fumbled with them for a minute, finally finding the house key. I opened the door, dropping the bag down on the couch. I walked down the hallway to my room, but something was odd. My door was closed, and I was positive I left it open this morning. I opened it a crack, hearing something... What was it.. Sobbing? Curiously, I opened the door wider, only to find Billie Joe laying on my bed, crying.
