Why are There No Clouds in the Sky?, chapter 12

"Doctor! Doctor!"; Billie ran through the halls, screaming. "His heart stopped!";

A doctor looked up and motioned a nurse to follow him, and ran towards Billie. "What happened to your son, before?"; he asked as they ran toward the room.

"He had a seizure, is this normal?"; Billie responded.

"No,"; the doctor said. "We're going to need to start his heart back up again. Give me the pads.";

The nurse pulled the rehabilitators from the drawer as the doctor pulled apart Joey's shirt. He gelled the two shockers before placing them on Joey's chest.

"Clear!";

He sent a shockwave through Joey's body, but the monitor remained the same. "Still got nothing,"; he said.

"Clear!";

After a second shock though, the pulse rate was still the same- nothing.

"Clear!";

After nothing happened for the third time in a row, he looked at Billie and Adrienne, "If he doesn't come back this time, I'm going to have to pronounce him gone.";

Adrienne was crying hysterically on her husband's shoulder, and Billie's expression remained blank- he could not even process the situation, it was so horrifying.

For what was to be the last time, the doctor placed the rehabilitators on Joey's chest.

"Clear!";

Adrienne and Billie stared at the monitor for any signs of life in their son, but there showed no signs of any pulse rate whatsoever. Adrienne's knees became weak and she fell to the floor, crying so hard she was hardly able to breathe.

Billie just leaned over the bed, staring at his still son. He heard the doctor sigh, "I'm sorry.";

The doctor looked at his watch, "Joseph Armstrong, time of death-";
