Times change...people shouldn't, chapter 16
"Every guy's favorite words.." Joey said as he shut the door behind him.
"Can we go somewhere?...to talk," Brooke asked looking up at him with pleading eyes. "Sure, lets go." Joey said as he took Brooke's hand in his. She smiled up at him weakly and pulled her hand away.
***
"Come sit with me," Brooke said as she sat down on a swing.
Joey slowly walked over and joined her "So...what's up?" he asked as he kicked some dirt around with his Vans.
"I wanted to give you an explanation to why I acted....well the way that I did," Brooke started. "I went over to Jimmy's party and I got really drunk, I didn't mean to Joe...really I didn't. Jimmy just offered me a beer and if I turned it down he would have known something was wrong but one turned to two and somehow I winded up having a few..." Brooke paused to see his response, but his eyes were still focused on the ground. "Well I don't know some how I winded up running over to Lauren's and confessing to her.."
Joey perked his head up "Confessing?.....What did you do?" he asked worried.
"N..nothing, I mean confessing about the baby," she said as she quickly covering up.
"Oh." Joey said as he resumed his sulking position.
"Well she basically called me a slut and said we couldn't be friends anymore and that's when I came over to Adeline, fought with you and came home." slowly tears started to form in her eyes. "I was lying down, when J...Jimmy came over..and...." Brooke stopped she wanted to tell him, she really did but when she opened her mouth to say it...nothing came out. The only thing coming from her were tears out of her eyes.
"Jimmy what?" Joey said as he got up and moved them onto a small park bench. Brooke hid her face in his shirt and regulated her breathing so that she could once again talk to her boyfriend.
"Nothing..." she sighed wiping some tears from her eyes. "He just stayed the night because I was really trashed....I just wanted to tell you," Brooke lied, she lied straight through her teeth to the one person she loved. She had slept with her boyfriend's best friend and he had no idea.
It was a terrible feeling that eroded inside of her...but there was nothing she could do. "I trust you baby, it's ok...don't cry." Joey said as he rocked her in his steady arms.
"Joey please," Brooke said. "Don't talk..just...just hold me?....please?" she begged as she clung onto his neck. Confused still, Joey agreed and he held his pregnant girlfriend, who curled up like baby in his lap.

"Brooke!! Get up now or you'll be late! " Brooke's mother screamed from downstairs. It was the first day of school, Brooke's first day of her senior year. Despite the fact that she was about 3 months pregnant, she still wasn't showing so she grabbed a tight, form fitting, pink polo, a pair of brown footless leggings, and a destroyed denim skirt. She straightened her hair and pulled it back into a high ponytail, as she left one piece of her short bangs hang by her eyes.
"Well, well pregnant and STILL worried about her looks!" her mother snorted from behind her coffee mug as Brooke walked down their elegant spiral staircase. "Well, enjoy it while it lasts because in about 2 months you're going to look like a hippo," her mother continued to make cruel stabs at Brooke, who ignored them the best she could. "I'll see you later mom," she said as she grabbed her keys and headed for the car.
***
"Hey baby, how you feeling?" Joey said as he met Brooke by the entrance of the school.
"Okay I guess.." she sighed as she leaned on his shoulder. "Come on...we better get to home room," she said as she started to pull his hand towards the door.
"We still have 20 minutes," Joey chuckled, "Let's go hang out with Jimmy, he's by the other door," he suggested as he started to walk them over.
Brooke sighed. "Okay," she said as she plastered a fake smile on. Her and Jimmy really haven't spoken since the um...incident, and Joey was still in the dark about it.
"Hey Joe," Jimmy said as he nodded in their direction and took another hit of his cigarette.
"Hey Jim..plan on putting that out?" Joey asked pointing at the smoke.
"What?...Oh...sorry Brooke," he smiled as he hit it once more before stomping it out. "How goes the baby situation?" he asked leaning back on the stone building and looking at Brooke's stomach.
"Great," Joey said quickly "The doctor said the baby's good and should be born around my birthday," he said like any proud father would.
"Cool," was Jimmy's response which was all that could be said, due to the bell ringing.
"Well here we go, that God damn thing just signified my summer ending and another year of hell beginning," Jimmy laughed as he pushed off the wall. "I've gotta go meet up with some friends, I'll catch up with you guys later," he said as he started to jog off in another direction. "Bye Brooke!" he called out.
"Bye Jimmy!" she waved.
Joey wrapped his arm around Brooke's waist so that his hand rested ever so slightly on her stomach. "Joey, what if people notice!" Brooke said starting to panic as they walked through the hallways.
"Well Brooke whether they notice now or later...it doesn't really matter," Joey said as they turned into their home room.
"I guess your right..." Brooke said as she gave Joey a quick kiss and sat down in her seat.
***
"Mom?...I'm home," Brooke shouted through the house, but their came no response. "She's probably working late," she said to Joey as he shut the door behind them.
"Oh...did you notice Jimmy acting weird at all today?" he added as he followed Brooke into her room.
"Um no why?" she said quickly as she chewed her bottom lip.
Joey shrugged. "I don't know...he seemed off," he added as he seemed to be thinking.
"It was fine baby don't worry about it," Brooke reassured as she strolled over to her bed and sat down.
"I guess your right," Joey said joining her. "So on a better note...how was your day?" he asked innocently as he played with the bottom of her shirt.
"Fine....I told Ramona about the baby..." Brooke started as Joey began to ravish her neck.
"What did she say?" Joey asked even though he was clearly not interested in that right now.
"She was happy I guess," Brooke said as grew more and more uncomfortable with Joey practically on top of her.
*RING*
"I gotta get that," Brooke said springing up, thankful for once that the phone rang at the right time. "Hello?" she said as she twirled the phone cord in between her fingers.
"Hey Brooke, it's Jimmy....is Joey there?" he asked calmly.
"Yeah...I'll get him," Brooke sighed, still annoyed from this whole day. She got Joey's attention and handed him the phone as she strolled back downstairs and let the guys talk.
'I have to tell Joey.' she kept telling herself as she dug for something to eat in her cabinets. With no luck she tapped her fingers along the counter top out of boredom until she noticed a small package on the table. "No way!" she thought excitedly as she dove for the box , which she realized were cigarettes, and ripped one out.
She looked upwards towards her room.... "No sign of Joey....good." she thought as she stepped outside and lit it up. The nicotine filled her lungs like a breath of fresh air as she slowly released it, feeling herself relax, Brooke wandered over to her patio set as she relaxed and continued with her smoke. She felt a slight pang of discomfort coming from her stomach and she just rolled her eyes. "I don't even want to be a damn mother so knock it off," she grunted to her unborn child.
Brooke closed her eyes and ran her fingers through her soft golden hair as she thought about her life. Her mother was a fucker, she had cut in the past, she lost her best friend, she cheated on her boyfriend, she was 17 and pregnant, and her boyfriend had no idea about her cheating...yeah her life seemed pretty fucked up. 'Ya know...this baby caused more problem then it seems to be worth', she thought silently as she scrolled threw her cell's phone book for the abortion clinic's number.
"Can we go somewhere?...to talk," Brooke asked looking up at him with pleading eyes. "Sure, lets go." Joey said as he took Brooke's hand in his. She smiled up at him weakly and pulled her hand away.
