Times change...people shouldn't, chapter 30

"Joey, you should really try and get some sleep." Adrienne said softly to her son as she entered the living room late at night.
"But Brooke isn't home yet, and she hasn't called." He said, sitting up from his lax position and stretching a little as he did so.
"She probably fell asleep by now hun. She could have had too much to drink and passed out as well." Adrienne said lifting her sleeping grandchild off of Joey's chest and holding her with ease. "Go up to bed and I'll put Cali in her crib." she said making her way back to the staircase.
Joey sighed, ruffling his hair and turning off the tv. "Ok." he muttered, reaching for the light switch as the phone suddenly rang. His curious eyes, moved to the nearest clock which read 3:30 am
"Who could be calling now?" he said, walking to the phone and answering it.
"Hello?"
"Hello I need to speak to a Mr. Joseph Armstrong immediately." the voice said from the other line.
"This is he." he said quirking an eyebrow up.
"Mr. Armstrong, this is Sunshine Valley Hospital. I am calling on behalf of Miss Brooke Calliway."
Joey felt his color drain from his body as his heart rate sped up.
"Wh-what happened? Is she ok?!" he asked panicked.
"Mr. Armstrong, Miss Calliway is in a very serious condition. From the information we have gathered she was using illegal drugs and her body couldn't handle it all. We have her in stable condition right now but she may be experiencing withdrawals and things of that nature. If you could please make your way down here as soon as possible it would be best." the female voice said.
Joey couldn't move, let alone speak. His mind was frazzled. Why was she using drugs? Will she be ok?
He didn't know what to think or do with himself. He choked out a meer "ok" and hung up the phone, frozen for a moment before he grabbed his keys and ran out the door.

Josh sat dazed out from both drugs and confusion as he waited in the lobby of the hospital for a doctor to tell him how Brooke was doing.
He had his knees pulled close to his chest while he chewed his lip nervously and played with ring that was on it.
His blurred blue eyes moved around rapidly as his drugs wore off and things started to set in fully, it was then that the door to the room opened and a very worried looking Joey walked in.
"Josh? What the fuck happened man?" Joey said after locating his friend and sitting beside him.
"I...I don't remember..." he responded, his breathing shallow and panicked as his mind was pounding in his head.
"Josh you have to tell me What happened to Brooke?!" Joey said looking deeply at his friend, pleading for an answer.
"She-She took a line. I guess it didn't go well for her first time, and mixed with a hell of a lot of weed-."
Joey cut him off.
"You gave her a line?!?!" he asked shocked.
"I didn't force her! It wasn't even my shit! You know I'm not into that Joey! God I am so dumb!" Josh said standing up out of his seat and shouting wildy, not knowing what else to do.
Joey looked around at the other people in the waiting room as they watched the scene that was being caused.
"Josh, just sit down. It's gunna be ok." he said trying to calm his friend down. "I'm not mad at you ok. Just chill out."
The frantic teen nodded and took his seat, curling back into a ball and falling silent.

Joey took a deep breath and held it for minute with his eyes closed tight, thinking things over in his mind as to what should be done.
He exhaled heavily when he realized he had no ideas, and lifted his head to see a doctor above him.
"Mr. Armstrong?" he said.
Joey nodded "Yes, is she ok? When can I see her?"
"Mr. Armstrong your girlfriend will have a long road of recovery ahead of her. She is stable right now but will no doubt experience withdrawal from the cocaine. It only takes one time to be hooked as im sure you know, and she will need to be kept her while the withdrawal phase takes place. This can be a very stressful time for you and your family im sure but she will eventually be ok , she may or may not need a rehab facility.
Her chart also showed us that she is the mother of your child and I would recommend not bringing a 3 month old to see her for both the baby's and Brooke's health. Brooke's mind seems to be very delicate right now and I would like her to see and speak wit a professional while she is here as well."
Joey's expression was intently fixated on the doctor and his words. "Cocaine?" he muttered to himself. "Jesus Brooke what the fuck is wrong with you?!"
"Can I see her now?" he finally spoke up, breathing deeply.
The doctor nodded "To your right, follow the hallway make another right and her room is 5 doors down. Number 612." he said, directing him with is hands before he closed a chart in his hands and excused himself.

With heavy feet and a nervous body, Joey walked into Brooke's room.
He was greeted by the sound of a steady beep of a monitor keeping track of her breathing and heart rate.
"Brooke?" he said as loud as he could, which was only slightly above a whisper anyway.
Her pain stricken eyes peeled open as she did nothing but look at him as he looked back at a loss for words.
"Are you ok?" he choked, stepping closer to her and taking her still trembling hand in his.
"What's going on?" she sobbed. "I don't remember anything. I wanna go home Joey, please. Take me home." she begged gripping onto his hand and crying.
"I don't feel good." she wept, clinging tighter to him.
"I know baby I know. But everything will get better I promise." Joey cooed, pulling a chair over and sitting beside her bed, wiping her free tears away from her cold cheeks.
The room fell silent, as Brooke closed her eyes and held Joey's hand close to her face. Just wishing, praying all this would go away.
"Why did you do this Brooke?....Why?" Joey asked breaking the silence, needing an answer.
"I don't remember." she sobbed "I wish I did know. But I don't."
"Were gunna get you help ok?" He said with a heavy heart, willing to give up anything just to turn back time and fix whatever went wrong with her and keep her from this hospital bed.
She nodded, "Why are you with me?"
"I love you. I'm not leaving no matter what ok? Your gunna get better and we are going to forget about all this and move on with our lives with Kali. Everything will be fine I promise."
Joey did his best at comforting her, even if he didn't believe some of it himself.
Brooke nodded "I don't wanna end up like my mother Joe. I want to be there for Kali, not like this. Promise me you won't let me end up like her. God Joey.....I hate her.....I hate her so much." she said biting her lip as her eyes welled with tears that threatened to spill over which they did, leaving her cheeks wet as loose hair clung to her face.
"I promise. You won't ever be like he.r" The 18 year old boy said, feeling his girlfriend's hand slowly stop shaking and relaxing in his grip.
"Will you wait here if I go to sleep?" she asked like a small innocent child with scared eyes.
Joey leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Yes," he said with his lips against her skin.
She smiled up at him, and closed her eyes.
