A Summer And September, chapter 1

September was far, far away, and school was out. And even though many students were breathing sighs of relief, Charlotte couldn't wait until school came again. In her case, college. She'd have nothing to look forward to all summer except watching her older brother and his band practicing in the garage. Sometimes they'd practice there, or other times they'd practice at Billie's or Mike's house. But he was nineteen and she was seventeen. Still considered young by him.

Charlotte couldn't help it. She was the adopted child of the family. He didn't take it too kindly at first, but he treated her gradually better as time wore on.

Last month he had just joined a band called Green Day in place of their old drummer, Al Sobrante. They already had some records out. Only of which two she owned. She thought they were okay.

Currently they were making an album. It was called Kerplunk. Or at least she thought so.

"Charlotte! I've got some friends over, so don't annoy us, okay! We're practicing in the garage!" A voice called from downstairs.

That must've been him. And Billie and Mike. She really didn't know the two, just by name.

"Yeah, whatever Frankie!" Charlotte responded, grinning broadly to herself. He'd kill her for that later.

---

It was midday on Saturday, and Charlotte was busily mowing the lawn, one of her chores. She hated it. But since she was spending her summer before college at home, she'd have to continue doing her chores as she did them before.

"Hey, Charly, come over here!"

Charlotte immediately stopped the lawnmower. It couldn't be Tre calling her, could it?

"Come on, we don't have all fucking day!"

Yep, it was Tre. She walked over to the shabby garage, where he was calling from. Next to Tre, who was clad with green hair, two guys around his age stood. One had the most gorgeous icy blue eyes she'd ever seen and handsome cinnamon brown hair. The other one Charlotte hadn't bothered to look at for very long.

"Earth to Charlotte." A voice said, interrupting Charlotte's staring regime.

"Oh, sorry, zoned out..." Charlotte trailed off, blushing.

"Right," Tre said." Anyway, this is Mike." He gestured to the one with cinnamon brown hair, "And this is Billie Joe," he said, pointing to the other one, who had reddish brown hair.

"Yeah, uh, you know what? I gotta go. Wash my hair- mow the lawn- wash the lawn! So I'll see you and Mike and Billie Bob later! Okay, bye!" Charlotte said quickly, running into the house as fast as possible.

"Billie Bob? And why does she have to wash the lawn?" Billie said, raising an eyebrow.

"You sure have a jumpy sister, Tre." Mike laughed.
