Green Day's helping hand, chapter 3
As Matt, Camille, Dylan, and Camille's date Ryan, whatshisname to Matt, who didn't particularly care who it was, walked up to the entrance of the Wiltmore, they all thought to themselves how this would be a night they would never forget.
"Ticket's please," the bouncer said
"Sure," Matt said
"What are these?" The bouncer asked
"Our passes for the show," Matt said
"I've never seen passes like these before. Gonna have to check it out," The bouncer told them
"Okay, fine, but they are real" Matt said sort of annoyed
"He charlie," The bouncer said into his walkie talkie, "I got some kids here with some strange passes for this thing. I don't buy it, but they insist they are."
"Ask the lead singer of the band. He knows us. They gave us these passes," Dylan asked the bouncer
"Okay, sure, the band 'gave' you special passes," The bouncer said sarcastically.
"He did. Ask the band yourself. My names Matt Mocciaro. Go on, ask," Matt said to the bouncer
Suddenly, a voice came over the walkie talkie
"Hello, hello?" the voice said
"Charlie? Is that you? Ask anybody in the band if the know a Matt Mocciaro" The bouncer asked
"Okay" the voice said
A couple of minutes went by
"Johnny?" The voice said
"Yeah," The bouncer replied
"Yeah, it appears the passes are real. LEt them through," the voice said
"Kay, thanks," The bouncer thanked. "Kay," the bouncer said as he moved out of the way, "go ahead."
"Finally. Thank you," Matt said
The four friends walked into the club. It was smaller than they had expected, but still cool.
"Um, Mr. Matt Mocciaro?" A man in a dark trenchcoat and sunglasses and hat said as he walked up to them
"Yeah, that's me," Matt answered
"Come with me. I've been asked to take you backstage," The man said
"Come on guys," Matt instructed his friends
The man lead the four friends to an area backstage. It was a dark, dimly lit hallway. While walking behind him, Matt noticed how familiar the guy in the trenchcoat looked.
"Tre?" Matt asked
"I don't know who you are taking about," The man insisted
"Tre, is that you?" Matt asked again
"I do not know of this Tre," the man insisted again
"It is you," Matt insisted
"Man, was I that obvious?" Tre said as he took off the trench coat and sunglasses and hat to reveal his dress shirt, belt, tie and dress pants, as well as his spiky hair.
"I knew it," Matt said
"Okay, here we are," Tre said as he opened a black door with the word "Talent" painted on it. Inside, Mike, Billie Joe, Jason, and everybody else was getting prepped for the show that would start in the next few minutes.
"Hey guys. You made it," Mike said as he greeted them and shook their hands
"Yeah, we did," Matt said
"Matt could I talk to you a sec," Ryan asked him. "Matt, you never told me you knew them. Oh my god!"
"Oh yeah, guys this is Camille's date Ryan," Matt told the rockers
"Hey Ryan," Billie Joe said as he shook the young boys hand
"Hello Mr. Armstrong," Ryan said
"Please, Mr. Armstrong makes me sound as if I've been knighted or something. Billie Joe will sufice my friend" Billie Joe told ryan
"Okay, thanks Billie Joe," Ryan said embarassed
"Hi, I'm Mike," Mike said as he shook ryan's hand too
"Nice to meet ya," Ryan said
"Tre Cool, but you can call me Jesus, or lover, whatever float's your boat," Tre said to ryan as he shook his hand also
"Okay. I like the sound of lover, but I'll go with tre," Ryan said
"Owwwwww, I like this kid," Tre said as he gave ryan a noogie.
"Hey, cut that out," Ryan said laughing
"Okay okay, break it up," Mike said jokingly. "Let's sit down shall we?"
The seven of them took seats on two long, white couches that were in the shape of an L.
"So Matt, you ready?" Billie Joe asked
"Ready for what?" Matt asked him
"To sing," Billie JOe answered
"Sing? You know, you get funnier everytime I see you," Matt said
"NO, I'm serious. What did you think you were just gonna watch this concert?" Billie Joe asked.
"Yeah, of course I did" Matt said
"Well you're not. You will be singing holiday. Hope your voice is ready," Billie Joe said
"But why do you assume I can sing?" Matt asked
"Cause your bud here sent us a tape of you singing along to our songs," Tre said
"OH god, it's not the tape from Camille's Batmitsvah where I sang "Holiday" is it?" Matt said embarassed
"Uh, yeah, it was that one,: Mike said
"Camille!" Matt said covering his face
"What? You were great," Camille said to comfort him
"She's right, Matt, you were," Billie JOe said
"Fine, I'll do it," Matt said
"Two minute's to show guys," A stagehand said as he popped through the doorway
"Here we go guys," Mike said
"YEAH! LETS DO THIS!" Tre said trying to get everybody pumped
"Matt, I just want you to know that you're gonna be great out there," Dylan said
"Thanks, I appreciate that," Matt thanked him
The two briefly kissed, then matt followed the band onstage.
"Hello Los Angeles!" Billie Joe screamed to the crowd
"AHHHHSAHAHHHHH!" The crowd roared
"Before we start playin tonight, I'd like to introduce you to a friend of mine. His name's Matt, and he's got something to say to you all," Billie Joe said as he handed the microphone to Matt
"This song isn't anti american, it's anti WAR!" Matt screamed into the mic
Immediately, the band started to play the familiar begining notes to "Holiday"
"Hear the sound of the fallin rain, comin down like an arm-e-ged-on's flaaame, shame the one's who died with-out aname ahh, hear the dog's howlin out ah key, to hymn called faith-and-misery, and bleed the company lost the war today ah. Well, I beg to dream and diff-aher from the hollow lies, this is the dawning of the rest of our lihives. On holidaaaaayyyah!" Matt belted out.
The crowd was going wild. Matt sounded fantastic, even to himself, even though he thought he had a shitty voice.
As matt started to say "The representative from California has the floor," four young dancer, dressed like the girls from the video, walked out rythmically out behind him. They started dancing like in the video
"Zeig Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is you pun-ish-ment!
Pulverize the eff-el towers
Who criticize your gov-ern-ment
Bang bang goes the broken glass man
Kill all the fags that dont ag-reey
Trials by fire stting fire
Is that a way that's Meant-for-mey!
Just cause. Just cause because we're outlaws YEAH!" Matt yelled
"This is the dawning of the rest of our lie-ives
This is our lives on Holidaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyeh!" Matt sand out.
Ba ba da ba bum bum baaaaaaaa. The end of the song came and the pyrotechnics blasted. It was fantastic, one of the best numbers the band's ever done.
Matt took his bows then went back to his friends who were standing to the side of the stage, then when it was over, followed the band back to their dressing room
"Matt, you were fan-fucking-tastic," Tre complimented him
"Thanks," Matt said blushing
"NO really you were," Tre insisted
"Yeah. WE could use you on the tour with a voice like that," Mike said
"Yeah, Mikes right. We could use you on the tour with a voice like that. So how bout it?" Billie Joe asked
"What? Me?" Matt asked
"No, your boyfriend. Yes you, stupid!," Tre said
"No, I couldn't. First of all, I don't think my grandparents, though I don't live with them, are still my legal guardians. I doubt they would let me go," Matt said
"Then I'll offer to adopt you," Mike said
"Adopt me? Really?" Matt asked
"Yeah, really. We are a match made in heaven Matt. You know you'd be the perfect son for me, smart, funny, clean, knows about music, good looking,..." MIke started going on
"Good looking?"Matt "now I know this is a joke."
"I think different," Dylan said behind him
"Awwwww, you swwweeettttt," Camille said sarcastically
"Well, what about school? I can't just give up my education," Matt said.
"We can get you a tutor," Billie Joe said
"Well, what about my musical ability. I can't play anything," Matt said
"I'll teach you to play the bass," MIke said
"Fine, so what if I could come? Then what? What could I possibly do with my life after this?" Matt asked
"Matt, could I talk to you in the hall for a sec?" Dylan asked him
"Sure. Could you excuse us?" Matt asked
The pair walked into the hall, and shut the door behind them
"Matt, what the fuck are you doing?" Dylan asked
"What do you mean?" Matt asked
"Why are you trying to find reasons to give up this gift these guys are trying to give you here, this opportunity?" Dylan asked
"I just don't think it's what I should be doing with my life," Matt said
"So what, your gonna give up this fantastic life you've been offered to study and become a paper pusher, who might be successful, but miserable?" Dylan
"Dylan, you don't understand," Matt said
"Oh, I understand alright. You just don't want to be spontaneous, live life. YOu know what, I think it's cause you're afriad, afraid of the unknow, afraid living a rebelious rocker lifestyle might be fun. But if somethings all fun, you can't trust it. That's how your parents taught you. But your parents are gone Matt, and you don't need to follow by their rules anymore. You need to take life by the horns and ride it for all it's worth!" Dylan said to him
"You're right. I need to take this opportunity," Matt agreed enthusiastically.
Matt rushed back in the room
"Guys, after much consideration and deliberation, I've decided to take you up on your offer," Matt said to everyone
"YOu will? Great, you're gonna make the best son ever man
Later that week, Mike argued with matt's grandparents, and eventually, after hearing the full story, agreed to give mike custody. One month later, Mike adopted Matt, and the two became family.
One year later. Mike, seeing as Jason will leave the band shortly, decided to teach matt the guitar, so that he could replace Jason on the next tour. Matt took to the guitar quickly. It became apart of him. He was a natural. As the eve of their first concert with Matt got closer, the band of Green Day was served a crushing blow. Billie JOe caught strepthroat, and had little or no ablility to sing. The band was in a panic, and time was running out.
"Ticket's please," the bouncer said
"Sure," Matt said
