KJ And Billie, chapter 12
Arg. What is it with people in this house and yelling all the time? Tre and Allie were over with Tre Jr, since their house is having fumigations done. Sam's in North Carolina with her family having time with Samuel. I told her I was gonna stay home, because her family hadn't seen him in over 2 years. I didn't feel so safe letting her drive out there with baby Riley, but Sammie swore to me she'd call, or Adam would at least. So, instead of staying at peaceful home, I decided to stay here. Bad decision it seems. This house is never quiet. Nine months ago, we were all here after the Brendan incident. Six months ago when my daughter was born. Five months ago when Tre Jr was hospitalized for something, I've done forgot. Needless to say, you get the point, and needless to say, I'm gonna strangle whoever is downstairs yelling!

So I walk downstairs, and there's Kayleigh sitting on the couch, hugging a pillow, yelling to Billie Joe, who in the kitchen, is yelling back at her.
"Oh just shut up Kayleigh. Damn, you gotta gripe over everything!"
"If you wouldn't fuck up the..."
"Oh so I fucked it up, huh? I fucked it up? Lemme tell you something..."
"Tell me what?! Go on, what?!"
"You can be such a fucking bitch sometimes Kayleigh Jane, you know that!"
"I wasn't born that way, I can tell you that much!" His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. Any usual woman would be crying right about now, but not Kayleigh. Her blue eyes burned holes through his green. She never was one that would calm down when she was angered.
"Hush y'all. There are babies in this house." I looked in the nursery, where two year old Aubrey and one year old Junior were sleeping. I wish mine was here, then I really could yell at them.
"Sorry Mike. Mornin' by the way." KJ said, getting up. She kissed my cheek, hugged me for a second before going upstairs. I plopped down in her place on the couch.
"What was that about?" I asked into the kitchen. Billie Joe came out with a set of pancakes so huge...
"Ah, prolly nothing. We were putting together something for Aubrey, and it didn't work out."
"You guys have been fighting a lot."
"Yeah, well. I guess it's a phase." He shrugs, and then gets some of the pancakes off the plate for himself. I didn't know so much about his explaination. He had a tendency not to see things he needed to. I couldn't eat, it was too early. I went upstairs, and I heard Allie and Kayleigh talking in her room. I walked in to Tre's room, and he was sitting on his bed.
"What're they talkin about?"
"Prolly about why Kayleigh's crying. Are they arguing again?!" I nodded. I decided I was gonna go in there and see what was up. There was a suitcase at the doorway of the room, with Allie and KJ sitting on the bed. KJ was staring at the bed sheet, her hair falling down in front of her eyes. I sat down beside her, and she fell against me crying. It broght back memories of when they had the fight before their wedding, and she called me at like 11 one night bawling. I put my arm around her, kissed her head, and talked to Allie and her.
"What's going on?"
"I'm thinking of leaving Billie Joe." I was shocked at that. They were such the happy family!
"But it's not that easy Kayleigh cue."
"I know the kids..."
"Kids?"
"I found out I'm pregnant again, which makes this a lot worse. He won't quit his bull, or his drinking, which intensifies the bull. There's been a lot that Aubrey's had to see, and I don't want this baby to have to deal with it too." I nodded, thinking of it all. Aubrey's almost lost her momma a bunch of times. Once right as she was born, then the day Billie hit her in the head, and then the deal with Brendan.
"It's not safe, a pregnant woman with a kid out there on her own."
"You think he'd call an Amber Alert out on Aubrey?" I forgot about those. Little alerts that come out on the airwaves if a kid has been kidnapped. Started after a girl here in Texas was kidnapped and murdered.
"I'll take care of Aubby if you feel like you gotta go." I looked Allie straight in the eyes. Was she seriously telling KJ it's okay to end a three year marriage with two kids involved? I got up, and went back in there with Tre.
"What's going on in there?" Major deja vu moment.
"She's thinking of leaving him."
"WHAT!" He whispered really loudly.
"But she can't leave with Aubrey."
"And being pregnant..."
"She's pregnant?"
"Yeah. She found out just about a couple of days ago." He sighed, leaning back on the bed.
"She can't leave, I won't let her."
"It's different, Tre. We're not 17 years old anymore, just moved in. I mean, we're 21 now. She's grown."
"I'm still like her twin brother. She'll listen to me." He jumps up, and heads in there. He has still got the blind faith of an eight year old. Allie came in his room with me; obviously time for twin talk. Then all of a sudden, I hear a door slam. A car starting, and driving away. Allie and I run downstairs, and see Billie Joe's car gone. I find a yellow envelope lying on the table, adressed, "Kayleigh and Aubrey." I take it, and I hand it to Kayleigh when I get upstairs.
"What's it say, KJ?"
She sighs, and then reads to us, since now we're all in her room. She's alone on her bed, and we're all sitting on the other one.
"There's two letters. One's to Aubrey, and the other to me. I'll read mine first." Another sigh, and then she begins.
"My little ladybug. It's been a long time since I've called you that, hasn't it. Been since like, homecoming or something. Look, I know things aren't going our way, and no I'm not blaming you. I think we just need some time apart, and I think I should be the one to leave. Aubrey needs a home, not to be on the road. Don't worry, I won't keep you in the dark. I'll let somebody know where I am. Don't keep me in the dark either, girly. Through all of this, I still love you, even though it seems like it's not working. Take care of our daughter while I'm gone. Hopefully, it won't be that long we're apart. With all, Billie Joe." She leaned her head back up against the wall, and cried. Not loud or nothing, just quietly. She flipped to the other page and read the one he wrote to Aubrey.
"You, little one that stole my heart. I know your mommy's prolly reading this to you right now, but I had to let you know. I gotta go for a while. Mommy and me need some time apart, and you need to stay in your rooms with your cousin Junior, and Riley when she gets home. Take care of mommy for me, and let her know I love her too. I love you Aubby. Daddy." This time she did lose it. Tre jumped over to her bed, and she fell onto him.
"Come on now, it's gonna be okay. Don't get yourself into an asthma attack or anything. We're gonna help you guys get through this." She just kept on crying though. I don't blame her. Nor did I shake my head. She was a woman, barely an adult, with a toddler and another on the way. And now her husband, even in doing the right thing is doing the wrong thing. If he knew she was pregnant, this wouldn't have happened. The question is, did it need to? She fell asleep in Tre's arms, and Allie let him stay there, holding her. It wasn't a sexual thing. We all knew about the relationship they've had together, and how much he needed to be there for her, and how much she needed him. I went in the nursery and picked up Aubrey, just waking up from a nap. She looked so much like Billie Joe, except for her big blue eyes. I thought about my own little girl, and her mommy. Could we ever be like this? Or was it just a case because they got married right after they turned 18? Who knows. All I do know is these two have really big hearts, and they love each other. God I hope this ends well.
