Human Medicine, chapter 1
"Hello?" asked Billie Joe whilst trying to fasten a screaming Jakob into the baby seat, he had the mobile phone stuck in the crook of his neck.
"Hi Billie Joe, its Suzie," Billie Joe's agent
"Oh hi" he said climbing into the drivers seat 2Whats up?"
"I've found you a babysitter!" She declared proudly
"Oh great." Billie said happily
"Her name is Jemma, she'll come round tomorrow"
"Thanks a million Suzie" he said thankfully before flipping the phone shut and continuing to drive to his home in Los Angeles.
It had been a year and six months since the painful split. Adie had ran away with the milkman, and of course, Billie being Billie, had used his rank to get the guy sacked. He wondered what the new babysitter was like, however 3 year old Jakob interrupted his thoughts.
"Daddy?"
"ummm?" he hummed, looking in the rear-view mirror at his son.
"Am I getting a new babysitter?"
"yes" Billie Joe said with a smile.
Once home, Billie pulled Jakob out of the back of his black S.U.V.
"You're too big for this seat, Jakob Danger!" Billie Joe panted at trying to budge his son.
"But I like it." Jakob protested.
"But I like it!" Billie imitated his son in a high pitched voice.
Billie Joe put Jakob down on his feet to find his house keys, however, as he was fidgeting with his many pockets the front door to his house opened and there stood Tre. A band member and best friend.
"Hey Billie" he said with a trademark smile.
"TRE!" Billie Joe set down his groceries and enveloped his friend. It had been a year at least.
"Hey Billie Joe you pleased to see me?" Tre said laughing "Well Mike is here too, dunno where but he is."
The three entered Billie Joe's kitchen whilst Mike was walking down the staircase.
"Billie! How you been?" Mike said smiling at his best friend and Jakob.
Billie hugged Mike too and returned to making coffee.
"Well we were thinking Billie, that maybe we should start Green Day again? The fans are going mental without us." Mike said after an hour or so of talking and catching up.
"I dunno guys... I got a new babysitter coming tomorrow, I'll see what she's like and if she can cope with Jakob then I'll tell you." he answered.
"What about - " Tre protested but Mike cut across him.
"I think Tre was gonna ask if we could stay here for a few weeks."
"A few... weeks?" Billie Joe said, his eyes darting questioningly to his best friends.
"Um yeah" Tre said cautiously.
"Guys, what've you done?" Billie asked worryingly.
"Nothin!" Both 35 year olds snapped.
Billie Joe raised his eyebrows.
Tre sighed and said "We were told to stay away from Las Vegas."
"WHAT!?" Billie said with a bark of laughter. Mike and Tre exchanged serious glances.
"You... can't be serious?" Billie asked, his mouth hanging open. He had watched the news channel earlier that day to see a huge pile up, cars upside down and tangled together, but no-one was killed or seriously injured.
"How the hell did you cause that?" he asked.
"If we told you, you wouldn't believe us, how about some dinner then?" Mike suggested, changing the subject. Billie Joe knew he wouldn't get an answer and so picked up the phone and ordered pizza.
The youngest being Jakob was put to bed by Billie Joe. He sang his usual bedtime song to the three year old and then watched over him for a while, before returning downstairs to memories and beer cans.
