I Wanna Be the One Who Takes the Pain, chapter 12
(August 15th 2005)
Jessica turned around in the bunk to face Tre and burry her head in his neck.
"You know it's almost 1:30 pm," she said, giving him small kisses on collar bone.
"Yeah, so what," he mumbled.
"We have to get up, so we don't get murdered by everyone."
"So let them murder us, I'll die happy."
"Well I want to live through my twenty third birthday, thank you very much. I'm leaving you here and then you can deal with this one on your own."
"Oh fine, I'll get up," Tre grumbled.
"I win," Jessica said, crawling out of the bunk and getting dressed,
"Only if I'm the prize," Tre winked.
"Fine, you're my prize." Jessica went out to the front living area of the bus to find Billie Joe reading on the couch.
"So how do you like the book so far?" she asked him, sitting down on the couch beside him.
"It's good, this kid is hilarious when he goes on and is 'Do you know what masturbation is?'"
"Yah, I love that part, it's hilarious, well I'm glad you like the book I suggested, it's my favorite, I've read it so many times," Jess answered as Tre entered the room behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"We going to practice for the show now?" Tre looked at Billie Joe, peering over Jess's shoulder and asked.
"Yah, Mike went to get a coffee and then we'll will get to that," he replied, going back to his book.
Tre plopped down on the couch, pulling Jessica with him placing her on his lap and turned on the TV.
"Oh, let's watch golf! Oh wait, let's watch cat-woman!" Tre said spontaneously.
"Cat-woman?" Jessica raised her eyebrow at him with a questioned look.
"Yeah, don't you just love this movie, fun in leather!"
"Never seen it," Jessica replied.
"Oh my god, you've never seen it, well then you are most definitely going to watch it with me then, aren't you?" Tre encouraged.
"I guess, I really don't have a choice."
"Of course not."
Ten minutes into the movie Mike appeared holding three coffees and an ice tea passing them out.
"Here. I know you don't like coffee, freak," Mike said. giving Jessica an ice tea.
"Oh, you found the good ice tea, yay for sweetened!" Jessica said happily, taking a sip.
"Where did you find this, I should either tell or drink this in front of Katie."
"At some corner store I saw on the way back."
"I am most definitely stopping there and buying them out and I am hiding them here, cause Katie will drink all of them, I know that's for sure."
"You guys are nuts, you don't like coffee and are addicted to ice tea," Mike laughed.
"So, you're addicted to coffee and it's disgusting." Jessica did a finger in mouth and gagging sound directed to Mike.
"I'm gonna go drink this in front of Katie, have a fun time rehearsing." Jessica gave Tre a quick kiss and went to the last crusade bus.
"Hello! Anybody home," Jessica yelled, stepping into the vacant room on the bus.
"I am," Katie yelled from the bunk area.
"Where is everyone?" Jessica asked as Katie entered the living room/kitchen area of the bus.
"I think they went to get food, have you eaten?" Katie said, sitting down at the small square table.
"I kind of ate this morning, I'm not really hungry though," Jessica replied, taking a sip of her ice tea purposely so Katie would see.
"Hey! Where did you get that!" Katie jumped, trying to grab at the ice tea Jessica was drinking from.
"No, hands off, it's mine." Jessica swatted Katie's hands away, facing away from her.
"You're a meany pants," Katie pouted.
"Too bad if you find the giver, you shall receive." Jessica smirked.
"What is that suppose to mean?" Katie asked, confused.
"It means, oh confused one, go around bugging everyone till you find who gave it to me and you'll get your ice tea."
"Fine, I will! Jerk." Katie stomped off the bus to find who go the ice tea for Jessica.
"Aw man, I really have weird friends." Jessica sat at the table and took a look at her cell phone that showed she had three new messages.
You have three new messages. One (beep) "Hey Jess, it's Marian, I have something important to tell you, call me when you get this, okay, bye." Message sent Monday, August 15th, 11:00 am.
Jessica pressed seven to delete the message and listen to the other one,
Second message (beep), "Hey Jess, it's Marian again, I don't know if you got my first message, but I really need to tell you something so call me back, okay, Bye." Message sent Monday August 15th, 12:35 pm.
"God what could be so important, she never even gets out of bed before four in the afternoon most days," Jessica said, pressing seven again.
Third message (beep), "Hey Jess, okay, cause you seem to busy to call me right now I'm just going to tell you cause I just have to, Jake and I are getting married! Wow I'm going really giddy right now, saying it out loud is fun, I'm getting married ladidadidada, okay, that's what I had to say, call me back when you get this, I need to discuss how you and Katie are going to have flip a coin for bride maid deciding, okay, bye!" Message sent Monday August 15th, 1:33 pm.
Jessica deleted the message and immediately dialed Marian's number.
"I'm getting married!" Marian yelled into the receiver instead of a pleasant hello.
"Hi to you too, so you're the first off your feet, when did this happen?" Jessica asked.
"Last night when I got home he was waiting at my house with flowers and it was so romantic, and I can't believe he was standing there waiting for me, it was perfect. I can't believe this, can you? And you and Katie are going to be my brides maids, okay, cause I can't choose unless you want to flip a coin. Wow, this is crazy, isn't it? I know it is." Marian was talking a mile a minute, practically having a conversation with herself, as Katie walked on the bus, smiling, holding a can of ice tea.
"Hey Marian," Jess interrupted her ongoing ramble.
"Yeah?"
"Katie's here, I'll give her the phone and you can tell her the good news, I have to go for sound check, okay?"
"Oh, oh yeah, bye!"
"Bye." Jessica handed the phone over to Katie.
"I'm going to hang out with Tre for a bit," Jessica whispered and slipped out of the bus leaving Katie and Marian to chat about wedding plans.
Jessica walked around the arena building they were going to be playing at until she found herself in the soon to be mosh pit area. The green day guys were on stage standing around talking as she walked up unnoticed to the fence that kept the fans from jumping on the stage.
"I see there is tons of practicing going on here." The three of them jumped at the sound of her voice and turned to look at her.
"Yes there was, we already did a few songs, " Billie Joe said simply.
"Well, well there you are." Evan came up and gave Jess a light shove, "We have been looking for your rock star ass for while now."
"Well I've been right here, and there you know. And you needed me, why?" Jess said, giving Evan a return shove.
"That isn't important now," he said as he wandered over and picked up his guitar from the side of the stage.
"Hey, we doing sound check now?" Matt asked, coming in with Katie attached to his hip.
"Well it's still our time, but the stage is all yours, we'll just stand and watch you intently," Billie Joe said, sitting up on a smaller amp.
"Sweet, here man." Evan tossed Matt his bass and he let Katie move off to the side stage.
Ian came in and sat behind the drums with drum sticks at hand. "Come on, Jess, we're waiting for you."
"Fine, fine, I'm coming." Jess jumped the fence and climbed up on stage and walked past Tre, Billie Joe, Mike and Katie to get her guitar, not looking at any of them,
"I can't believe they all forgot my birthday, not one happy birthday not even from Tre or Katie. Isn't it some priority to remember your girlfriend or best friend's birthday? Oh well, it's not the first time." Jessica turned on the mike at center stage and turned her guitar up and began singing before the others were ever ready to go.
Jessica put her guitar away fiercely and left the show area without a word and practically ran straight to the bus as soon as the last crusade was done sound check.
"What's wrong with Jess?" Mike asked, sitting down in a green leather chair in the green day dressing room.
"I have no clue, but she seemed pretty pissy. I think she needs to have a cool down period," Matt answered, pouring himself and Katie drink.
"What's the date today?" Billie Joe asked.
"Hell, if I know," Evan answered.
"We are a bunch of shit heads," Ian answered.
"What? Why?... Oh wait, it's the 15th, its Jess's birthday," Katie said, slapping her forehead.
"You guys didn't remember, I thought you were all throwing a surprise party and not telling me because I'd let it slip, but I found out anyways."
"Yeah, we did plan a party, but I didn't think today was the 15th," Matt said blankly.
"And you're telling me you remembered, Tre, you can't even remember your own birthday," Billie Joe said, shooting Tre a yeah right look.
"Yes I did remember my girlfriend's birthday, I hid her present on the bus so she'd find it."
"Tre, if you hide something, chances are they won't find it," Mike laughed.
"I'll be back then," Tre said, running out of the stage area.
Jessica turned around in the bunk to face Tre and burry her head in his neck.
"You know it's almost 1:30 pm," she said, giving him small kisses on collar bone.
"Yeah, so what," he mumbled.
