Billie's Forgotten Daughter, chapter 5
"Adoption?" Alexis said in surprise, "I'm not sure if I'm going to say this from a fan's point of view, or an orphan's, but sure why not!" Alexis hugged Billie Joe tightly. Her eyes began to water, and then she began to cry.
"I've missed you so much," she whispered.
Billie's eyes began to water. He knew now how he felt. He felt bad, bad that he couldn't say that he had missed her back. Felt bad, that he had forgotten her.
"Let's go home," Billie said trying to hold back the tears.
After a long explanation to Adrienne, Adrienne agreed to an adoption.
"We can make it official on the first of May," Billie said to Alexis at the kitchen table.
Joseph and Jakob got excited and started running around the house.
"Yay! We're going to get a sister! We're going to get a sister!"
They almost tackled Adrienne as she came into the room.
"Hey, no running in the house!"
So... they went outside and started running around out there.
May first couldn't have come faster.
"Hey Alexis!" Billie yelled from outside her bedroom door, "Hurry up or you're going to be late for your own hearing!"
Alexis came out of Billie and Adrienne's room on the opposite side of the hall.
Billie looked over where she was. "Oh, you're ready. What were you doing in there?"
"Uhhh, I was looking for something, but it's not in there sooo... "
"Never mind, Adrienne is waiting for you in the car. I'll be going soon after, I have some things to do before."
Billie walked her out to the car.
"See you in a bit," he said with a smile as she got in the car.
She waved at him, and he waved back as they drove off.
Billie went inside to call Mike.
"Hello?"
"Hey Mike it's me."
"Oh hey Billie, what's up?"
"Oh I'm just on my way to the adoption agency, and I was wondering if you could look after the boys while we're gone."
"Billie, you know the answer. Of coarse you can."
"Thanks Mike, you're a pal."
"I know."
"Well I'll see you in a bit then. Bye."
"See ya."
When all the paper work was finished, she was finally declared: Alexis Lillian Armstrong.
"Thank you both," Alexis said as she hugged them both at the same time, "You're the best parents in the world!"
"And you're the best daughter anyone could ask for," Adrienne said and kissed her on the cheek.
Billie put his hand on her shoulder.
"I don't know about you, but I'm hungry. How about we go out and celebrate with some burgers?"
"Me too, let's go!" Alexis said.
"The burgers were great Hun," Adrienne said as they walked out of the restaurant.
"Yeah well, it's the least I could do for my two favorite girls in the whole wide world."
They got to their cars.
"I'll see you at home. I'm going to go pick up the boys."
Adrienne kissed him. "Okay, be careful on the road, it's busy this time of day."
Alexis hugged Billie and kissed him on the cheek.
"I love you Dad."
"I love you too."
She let go of him and got into the car.
As they drove off, Alexis waved and blew a kiss at him. Billie did the same.
Billie got home to find that Adrienne and Alexis hadn't gotten back yet. The boys were running around the house again playing cops and robbers.
"Hey! You heard your mother, No running in the house!"
They ran outside and Jakob tackled Joseph into the flower garden.
"And don't trample Mom's flowers... Aww forget it," he said as they rolled over a couple of tulips.
Billie went to his room to hang his jacket. There was a note on the dresser. On the right corner, the time when it was written had been placed: 7:30am.
Dear Dad,
These will probably be the last things I say to you. Dad, I'm sorry about my mom. I'm sorry she walked out on you. I don't blame you for forgetting about her or me so don't feel guilty. Thanks for giving me a family who loves me. I never would have thought I would one day be an Armstrong, the daughter of one of the greatest singer/song writers in the history of Rock and Roll.
Anyway, I will always love you, and I know you will love me too.
Much love,
Alexis Lillian Armstrong
PS: According to Mom's religion, those who commit suicide are not allowed into heaven. She's back, and she's not happy that we found each other either.
"What the hell is she talking about?" Billie asked himself.
The phone began to ring.
"Hello?"
"Hello, this is 911 police call. Is this Mr. Armstrong?... "
"I've missed you so much," she whispered.
Billie's eyes began to water. He knew now how he felt. He felt bad, bad that he couldn't say that he had missed her back. Felt bad, that he had forgotten her.
