A Bittersweet Birthday, chapter 3

Once Therese had eaten and gotten dressed and all of that fun stuff, the pair headed over to room '92', the room Valmina was staying in. They knocked on the door, but there was no answer. Deciding to let themselves in, they opened the door and slowly entered, softly calling, "Valmina?" throughout the monstrous room. They heard noises from the bathroom, which caused Therese to go bounding towards the door, screeching, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" "go away" "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" "please just go away" "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR VALMINA!" "I told you to fucking go away!" "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO-YOUUUUUU!" "FOR FUCK'S SAKE, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY ROOM!" They could finally hear Valmina, and were shocked. "What's wrong, are you okay?" Camiola asked, sounding concerned. They heard a sigh, "Please," Valmina said, "just go away. Can you do that for me, on my birthday?" Hesitantly, Camiola asked, "do you want us to come back later?" Valmina thought, "Sure," she agreed, "come back in about an hour. I just need to get ready and stuff, that's all" Not really reassured, Therese said, "Okay, but we'll be back in exactly one hour, got that, birthday girl? Actually.......hold on," Therese took a second, looking at her watch and counting in her head, " 57 minutes and about 45 seconds, okay?" "Yeah, sure." Valmina sighed, almost chuckling despite herself. Her friends really seemed to care. They just didn't understand. They had no idea that.......well, they just didn't understand. And she wasn't planning on telling them anything, so it seemed to her that it would stay that way, maybe forever. She heard the door close and let out a sigh of relief. She decided to clean herself up and get ready, she only had one hour, or, as Therese put it, 57 minutes and 45 seconds.

Back in Therese's room, the two girls were chatting about Valmina, completely incapable of fathoming even slightly what could be wrong with her. "Maybe," Therese started, "Valmina was just getting ready, like she told us. You know how much she hates being seen, I mean, even in a bathing suit. She was just shy." "Yeah," Camiola retorted, with a look on her face that told Therese that she wasn't intent on losing the argument, "I think it's more than that. Have you ever noticed how much she hates being touched? And I'm not talking about yesterday in the car, I'm talking about all of the time. Something isn't right here, and it's our job to figure out and help. Shit, I just can't believe we haven't noticed until now!" "Look," Therese began, with a deadly look on her face, "don't go asking about this shit on her birthday, okay? Do it tomorrow or something. It's her big day and this would just spoil it." "Yeah, okay. But we're still asking, whether you like it or not." Camiola shot at her. She looked at the clock. "Look, it's 9:55, let's head to Valmina's room." she said. Therese glanced at the clock as well. Sighing, the two girls left the room and headed towards the elevator.

After showering, Valmina sat on her bed, fully dressed, in more ways than one, staring into space and thinking about nothing in particular. She was starting to feel a little drowsy when she heard a knock on her door. She looked at the clock and sighed. Walking over to her door, she let Therese and Camiola into the room. Therese immediately threw herself onto the bed, throwing the already messy covers onto the floor. Camiola rolled her eyes and grabbed a chair. Valmina sat on the floor at the foot of her bed, feet pulled up to her chest and arms wrapped around her legs. "Well, happy birthday, Valmina." Camiola said. Valmina nodded. Therese piped up, "yeah, you're finally legal." Valmina forced out a grin. "So, I know we already got you tickets to a Green Day show, but me and Therese thought we'd get you a little something extra, since this is a really important birthday." Camiola said. Valmina raised her eyebrows, waiting for more. There was a silence, which was soon broken by Therese exclaiming, "for fuck's sake, just show her, I'm over here quivering with excitement!" "Shut up!", Camiola said, "you'll ruin the surprise!" Therese, about to shout something else, quickly closed her mouth. "So," Camiola said, "here you go. Happy birthday." She pulled out the backstage passes from her back pocket and handed them to Valmina, who, despite herself, looked shocked. "Wow." was all she could manage to say.

Valmina still sat on the foot of her bed, thinking deeply. She was surprised, yes, but not so much in a good way. Within minutes, she was starting to feel a hint of paranoia. Valmina, if you couldn't already tell, had always felt the strong need to go unnoticed, and something told her that meeting Green Day backstage wouldn't fulfill that need. What with the incident with Mike that morning, complimented by her good looks, she felt that she would be getting a lot more attention than she wanted. Crazy ideas of hats and scarves, sunglasses and a covering hair-do, started racing through her mind. "Maybe," she thought, "I can just hide behind Therese and Camiola, and just make myself unseen." But that would make her look bad, and she couldn't bring herself to humiliate herself in front of her idols, no matter what. In the end, she decided to just get it over with. Besides, it was her birthday, she deserved all of the attention she could get, especially from her favorite band. Making her decision, she stood up, and noticed that her hotel room was spotless. Confused, she looked around, and saw Therese and Camiola in the middle of a quite amusing arguement. "Camiola," Therese started, "that's not your job. The hotel hires people to do this for you." "Yes," Camiola retorted, "but it's only kind to save them a little work. There's so many rooms in this hotel, don't you think they deserve a break It's only fair?" Therese laughed, which earned her a glare from Camiola. "Look," she said, "if everybody started 'saving them a little work', they'd be out of a job! Is that fair?" Camiola just chuckled. Turning her head, she noticed Valmina. "Hey, we're taking you shopping, whether you like it or not." Valmina just shrugged. "K. Can I get ready?" Camiola smiled "Sure. Twenty minutes sound good?" Valmina nodded her head. "K. We'll meet back here in twenty minutes." And with that, Therese and Camiola left the room.

Mike walked up to the door and knocked. He could hear shuffling inside, a click, and the door swung open. A short, black haired man stood facing him, hair messy and five o clock shadow on his chin. Billie Joe Armstrong wore nothing but an American Idiot t-shirt, his boxers, and a tired smile. "Hey." he said. "Hi." Mike replied. "Come in." Billie Joe said. Mike walked into the monstrous room and took a seat on a chair by the window. "So," Billie Joe started, "what's up?" "Well," Mike said, "Tre's bored, and he wants to go out. Do you wanna come?" Billie Joe frowned. "Are you sure?" he asked. Mike was confused for a second, and then, "Oh! No, this is a small town, most people won't recognize us, and if we wear hats or sunglasses or something, we could probably avoid fans." Billie Joe thought. "Okay. When are you leaving?" Mike smiled. "As soon as we can. Otherwise, Tre might take out his boredom in a potentially dangerous or unhealthy way." They laughed. "Okay," Billie Joe said, "we'll meet at Tre's room in thirty minutes, k?" Mike nodded "See you in half an hour." he said. With that, he left the room.
Half an hour later......
The punk trio stepped out of the hotel and took in their surroundings. Mike wore some dark sunglasses, and Billie Joe wore a baseball cap. Tre had tried to leave the hotel wearing a clown's wig and a green sequence dress that he got from who knows where, but, as Mike pointed out, that would get him more attention then a big sign that read, 'LOOK, IT'S TRE COOL, THE DRUMMER FROM GREEN DAY!!!', so he had settled on a detective's hat, dark sunglasses, and a fake moustache.

Mike looked around at all of the people walking on the streets, wondering what it would be like to live out here in the middle of nowhere, when a trio of girls caught his attention. Actually, just one of them. The one dressed in all black, with beautiful red hair and a figure that looked like a strong gust of wind could carry it away. It was the girl from the elevator.

Tre glanced at Mike and noticed that he was staring at something. Following his gaze, he noticed the girls. Giggling to himself about his horny friend, he noticed Valmina. "Billie!!!" he exclaimed. "It's the girl from last night, remember!?!" Mike looked at Billie Joe. "You guys know her?" he asked. "No," Billie Joe started, "last night, Tre threw his television out of the balcony and it landed on hers." "Yeah," Tre pouted, "she stole our porn!" Mike looked back at where he saw the girls walking, but they had turned a corner and were out of sight.
