Wake Me Up When September Ends, chapter 2
I sprinted back home after making my discovery about my father. All I needed was the truth from Brad. I had no other choice.
I finally came home and went straight to my room. Those very words I spoke rushed through my mind like a microphone with its settings stuck on echo as I sat on the edge of my bed in my tiny, not so cramped room. I made sure that I was alone in my private santuary as I like to call my bedroom. I thought I was alone in there but Brad was sitting on my desk chair.
"So, what's up Mr. Armstrong?" he said to me in a 'trying to be nice but nasty' way. I looked up at him in surprise because I didn't know he was in there.
"I know what you did five years ago today," I said as I looked away from him.
We sat there in silence for a few seconds.
"You can't hide it Brad. It's pretty obvious that it was you," I added. He looked really dumbfounded.
"Um, I don't know what you're talking about," he said, shivering in fear "What did I do?"
"Okay then tell me this" I started again "Where were you on the 16th of September 1982?"
He started to hesitate as he did ye ol' 'Yanking on ye Collar of ye Shirt' thing.
"September 16th," he murmured to himself "I was, um, sick in bed."
I laughed to myself. "Okay, then if you were sick in bed, why were you at the hospital?"
"I, um, had to get some medical help from the doctors," he said then he murmured something under his breath "yeah, that'll do."
"Why couldn't you just go to the local pharmacy?" I said.
"Um, I needed, um, the help from the hospital because a pharmacy couldn't give me the help I needed," he said but I could barely understand him because his voice was really croaky.
He was slowly falling into my trap. He couldn't escape now, because I had him where I wanted him.
"But why did you walk into an emergency room," I spoke as I stood up and walked towards him, "the same emergency room where my own father was in!"
"I was, um, uh, looking for the doctors and that was the only place I could find them."
"So when you walked in and since you were in love with my mother, you decided to kill my father."
"Yeah," he said "I, I mean, no!"
Caught Him!
"You bastard!" I yelled at him, "all because of you my father can't watch me grow up and become a man!"
He gave me an evil smile
"So? He's just another normal person like you and me. No biggy losing him."
I nearly pulled my hair off after he said that, "I will never be the same all because of you!"
"Well, now you know the truth," he said evilly "I killed your father."
