Scattered Pieces of His Heart, chapter 1

"Where the fuck do you think you're going?" Adrienne screamed at her husband.
"Out!" Billie Joe screamed back as he slammed the door. Adrienne stood staring at the closed door until she heard the car leave.
"Joey! Jakob!" she yelled up the stairs as a tear ran down her cheek. Not wanting to upset their mom more than she already was, they raced down the stairs to meet her.
"Put your shoes on. We're leaving."
"Where?" Joey asked.
"Just put them on!" Adrienne yelled. Scared, Joey and Jakob quickly put their shoes on as their mom started the car.

Meanwhile, Billie Joe headed towards Mike's house. He pulled in the driveway, walked into the garage, grabbed a beer, and announced his entrance by screaming "god damnit!" Mike, who had been upstairs, ran down to meet Billie.
"Is Estella here?" Billie asked through clenched teeth.
"No," was Mike's short reply.
"Good. FUCK! Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck," Billie Joe vented as he took a seat on the big couch.
"What is it?" Mike asked.
"Adie! She always... she just... she won't... " Billie sighed. "Sometimes she's got no idea what it's like... "
"What what's like?"
"I took a walk, to try and relieve stress, maybe write a few songs, ya know? And when I come back she's all 'Where were you? Why didn't you call? I was so worried!' So I explain and it turns into this big argument about how I should be home with her and the kids more. For Christ's sake, I took the walk so I could put the fucking food on the table!"
"Well... uh, did you say that to her?"
"That I put the food on the table? Yeah."
"Well there you go. That's why you pissed her off."
"You're taking her side?" Billie asked, standing up.
"Hey, Billie... calm down, I only said-"
"Damnit!" Billie Joe swore again. He threw the beer bottle at the wall and stalked out.
"Shit," Mike muttered. He picked up the phone and called Tre. It rang for a while before the machine answered.
"Hey, you've reached Tre," it said. "I'm either not home or I just really don't like you. So leave a message and I'll call you when I can. Maybe. If I want to."
The beep went off and Mike left his message: "Tre, its Mike. We've got a Billie problem."

"Where are we going?" Joey asked his mom again.
"I don't know," she snapped.
"Are you and dad getting a divorce?"
"Of course not, Joey. We're just having an argument."
"Oh."
Joey and Jakob sat silently as their mom drove them to who knows where.

With no where to go, Billie Joe drove back home. The garage was empty, except for a note taped to the door to their house. It was from Adrienne. He read it quickly, then crumpled it up and let it fall to the ground. He opened the door and headed to the kitchen.

Tre, who was just being too lazy to answer his phone, was now headed to Billie Joe's house. He'd looked everywhere else with no luck. He pulled in the driveway and rang the doorbell. No answer. He rang again, and still no answer. Getting impatient, Tre pushed the doorbell a lot of times really quickly - long enough to make anyone go insane. When no one answered, Tre tried the door. It was open.
"Billlllie... you here?" Tre called, sticking his head through the door. "Billie Joooe... the door's open, I'm coming in!" He walked in and looked around for him. "Hellllloooo... anybody home?"
When still no one answered, Tre began to get desperate. He ran around the house looking for him until he came to the kitchen.
"What the... holy shit!"
