A Dream Come True (Longer version), chapter 12
*Few days later - hat day. At lunch*
The line for the good food was longer than usual. Brittney came up. "Haha! I beat you at tag!" I said, smiling. She laughed, then poked my arm.
"Tag! You're it!" We played tag at that dance I told about you earlier.
"It doesn't count now! We're not at the dance, dumbass!" I said, smiling. I was wearing my black fedora that everyone is jelous of because they can't have such a beautiful hat such as this. Then Brittney saw Zach.
"Ooh, I'm going to ask if I can wear his hat again!" she exclaimed.
"You're friends with him?" I asked, a tad bit suprized. She nodded. Then he came over.
"Hey, can I wear you hat?" she asked.
"No, I don't want lice," he said, smiling. "I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding," he said hurriedly, smiling. Our eyes met and I smiled back. I swear, he looks exactly like Billie Joe 'cept with brown hair and no eyeliner.
Then the line finally started to move and Zach left. When we finally got there, I just got a bag of chips and sat down in our newly assigned seats. The worst part was, I had to sit across Danny Melton and the two preps. So I had to listen to 'And I was like blah blah blah and he wa- EEWWW!! WHY ARE YOU SPITTING?!?!' and 'Green Day sucks. You're such a goth, you nonconformist.'
I just ended up giving half the bag of chips to one of the preps that didn't have any money either. God, I'm such a push-over.
*Another few days later- well, more like two days later*
Payne wasn't at school yesterday. Why I actually noticed that, I don't know, I've barely even talked to the guy. In P.E. today, we went back outside and Johanna and I just walked together around the field. Heather and Dhrumi wanted to run every now and then and Ashley and Elise wanted to play kick ball. Payne started out playing soccer but then I guess he got bored of it. So as I was telling Johanna more of my life story (she was the one wanting to hear it. I did not by any means really want to tell it).
"Yeah, it's so fun to make fun of my evil Grammy and then run up the stairs. She's too big to even fit up the narrow stairway..." I said, smiling. Then Payne came running up.
"Best friend, wait up!" he called out. Johanna laughed and stopped. We watched as he came running up. "Hey Best Friend," he said.
"Hey," she said. I've gotta admit, we must've looked like and odd group to be walking together, a skater, a girly-type person and then me. No one can really think of a label for me so they just gave me a new stereotype entitled 'Saturn'. Just like Blaine at his school.
Payne and Johanna talked for a while as I sorta listened to their conversation and wandering off into my own little world from time to time. As we walked past the Football field, Johanna called out to one of her friends and waved. "Do you like him?" Payne asked.
"How could I? I'm married to you," she said. Then they continued on about how much of a priss Mrs. Angle was.
"Yeah, I'm the skater and she's the hater," Payne said. We both kind of laughed at this.
*Another few days later - still in P.E. though*
"Today, we'll be playing vollyball," Coach Welch annouced after the extra long warm-up that he made us do over and over again. He started to demostrate how to do the fore-arm hit. As he did, the ball was coming over towards us, the guys infront of us were trying to catch it while Heather was ducking. It landed in my lap. Shocked, I threw it over to Zach Chapmen who was telling me to throw it to him. He threw back to the coach and sat down. The coach told us to get in a group of seven and sit in a circle on the court. Since Joanna was out, we had Paulina in our group.
So we ran over to the cornor of the court and sat down. The next group over were holding hands and walking of towards thier spot. "We're not going to have to do that, are we?" I asked to no one in particular. Heather looked over at Payne who was sitting next to me and smiled.
"Aww, you two get to hold hands!" she said, bringing her hands up to her face. We both glared at her and the others laughed.
"No, we're not going to do that..." I observed, looking back over at them. Then everyone stood up and started to hit the vollyball to and fro with the forearm pass. And now I realise that I can not play vollyball to save my life.
