A Dream Come True (Longer version), chapter 13
Date: May 26 - Last day of Eigth Grade
A lot had happened in that time gap. Had a crush that ended just the day before, confirmed that two of my friends liked me, made a crappy song on my guitar, and discovered a whole new band. Oh, and I found out I was going to summer school. For missing two points from passing on the Math CRCT. That ended my days of decorating the Christmas Tree on a scantron. I was too scared to tell Daddy-Dearest about it, so I wrote him a note and left it on his pillow before I went to bed. And locked the door. The next morning he called me on the walk up to the bus stop and told me he wasn't mad, but he wasn't happy either. But on the bright side, it didn't interfere with the trip to Las Vegas to visit Grandpa and Vikki and I was going with three friends. But now I'm not so sure about the friends bit, 'cause Brittney's getting held back, I haven't seen Cody in forever, and Angelina is just getting on my nerves. She is exactly like Moira. She never shuts up, and then she gets insecure when you ignore her.
*The day before*
"I got thirty dollars," I told Heather.
"For what?" she asked.
"Yearbook," I said and took out the money.
"Hey, it's one of the new twenty dollar bills!" I said excitedly.
"That's not really a big deal nowadays. It is when you see an old one," Heather said and shrugged. The bus came to a stop in the bus lanes and the doors opened. Everybody got off and I waited for Heather. Payne was off before Heather. He said good-bye to Austin and then went inside. As Heather walked off, she asked, "Do you still like him?"
I groaned, "How many times are you going to ask?" It was really starting to get annoying. "Hey, Chelsea, in the skit, you're going to the bathroom, okay? By the way, do you still like him?"
Or "Me and Racheal are going to the mall today and then I'm going to the barn to ride Star. By the way, do you still like Payne?" In the most random times, the question pops up.
Rachael walked up, "Hey guys," she said cheerfully.
"Hi," Heather and I both said in unison. Soon after, Matt and Tylar walked by and both waved. Rachael and I waved back, Heather on the other hand, didn't really know them.
*Later During Yearbook Signing*
It was really hot in the gym. Everyone was crowding around, trying to get people to sign. Vincent walked by, his face was covered with signatures, "What the hell happened to you?" I laughed.
Before he could say anything, Heather came running up, "Chelsea!" she called out.
"What is it now?" I sighed. She extended her yearbook to me. I grabbed it and handed her mine. We both signed each others and handed them back, "Have you seen Matt around anywhere?" I asked.
She shook her head, "Haven't seen him, why?" she asked.
"There he is," I said and walked off towards him, "Hey!" I said. He spun around and smiled.
"Hey," he said and grabbed my yearbook.
"What if I don't want you to sign my yearbook?" I asked.
He laughed a little, "Too bad," he said and handed me his. I signed it and wrote a little message, nothing special. It took forever for him to write his though. I should have read it when he handed it back to me though.
After I had gotten everybody to sign my yearbook, I took off to the top of the bleachers and laid down to take a well deserved nap...
The concert was great. Green Day playing and Franz Ferdinand as an opening act. And backstage passes too? Life just couldn't get any better. Heather was with me, and she still couldn't belive I had won the tickets and backstage passes to a Green Day concert. She didn't much care for Franz Ferdinand as I had. As we waited for the talented musicians to come, a few unexpected paople came. Their faces all too familiar, "Caroline? Zach?" I asked.
They both turned and looked at me. Caroline's was of approval, Zach's of shock. "You like Green Day?" Zach asked.
"Of course! Didn't you ever notice my wristbands?" I asked and looked down. My wrists were bare, "Where'd they go...?" I asked softly.
"What wristbands?" Caroline asked, a smirk stowed across her face.
Heather leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Just ignore them," she said. I nodded and looked down at the floor, continuing to wait. Then Alex Kapanoes from Franz Ferdinand came rushing in. He was panting, as if he had just run twenty miles non-stop.
"They...They...They've been...shot! All of...them," he said in short breaths. They were atougraphing at a children's hospital..." he added.
"What were they doing at a children's hospital? Weren't they just in a concert?" Zach asked. I looked from Alez to Zach. Suddenly, his face began to change. Zach Norman was no longer Zach Norman, but now he was Matt. An earthquake started to occur, Alex was gone. Caroline and Heather were gone too. "Chelsea..." Matt's voice said. "Chelsea..."
I woke up, Matt was shaking me awake, "Time to go," he said.
"Huh..? Wha...?" I said, forcing my eyes to stay open. Heather and Rachael pulled me up and kept me from falling down the bleachers. I had no idea how I tired I really was, "Thanks..." I murmured.
On the bus, Heather and I looked through all our signatures. Whe I got to the back of the book, there was a paragraph signed MC. "Who wrote this?" I wondered out loud. Heather and I read it together. It went something like this:
Hey you,
Let me tell you something. You are the most beautiful girl I have ever met and don't let people try and change you 'cause one day the right one will come for you and don't forget to invite me to your wedding.
Love always MC
"Well...whoever it is, they sure are blind," I said.
Heather reread it. "Maybe it was Matt?" she said, looking up at me.
"Matt? Philpot?" I asked. She nodded. "You've been to Kindergarten, right? Philpot starts with P, not C," I said.
She laughed, "But your name starts with C," she pointed out.
I stared at her blankly for a minute, then looked back down at the yearbook, "Oh God, it's his handwritting," I said and slumped down in the chair, closing the yearbook.
