The Boys Are Back In Town, chapter 2
'Where is he? He was meant to be here an hour ago Billie', Mike said, putting
his bass down beside him.
'Listen, its Tre, he'll come. He wouldn't miss something like band practise',
Billie told Mike trying also to talk himself into something that wasn't true.
He knew Tre was still worked up over Rachel.
'Well, he hasn't turned up to the last 3 practises we've had. Don't tell me
you think that's 'normal Tre', Mike told Billie, using an unusually angry tone.
'Listen Mike, I told him about the gig we were going to tonight. He will come
trust me', Billie told him, patting his pocket, to show he had the tickets
sitting in there. The two boys sat in silence for a while longer.
'He's been drinking a lot lately as well', Mike pointed out the obvious.
'Yeah I know, smoking more than he usually does as well', Billie replied.
They waited a little longer.
'Maybe we should go search for him?', Mike suggested. Billie knew that Mike
was going to say that sooner or later. He was always concerned if something
like this happened regularly.
Tre had missed the previous 3 band practises they had planned and a few jam
sessions. He was coming to school stoned and drunk and was reckless when he did
majority of the things he did. This was just wrong, he should have been
acting like this. He had his whole life ahead of him and it was like he was
throwing it away, over a girl.
'Yeah, lets go look for him', Billie said.
-A HALF HOUR LATER-
'There he is', Mike pointed out, calling out to Billie. They looked across
the road. There he was. Tre standing outside Rachel's house, looking up at her
bedroom window from the side walk.
'Look at the poor guy, he's completely heart broken', Mike said, carefully
checking the road before going to cross.
'No Mike wait', Billie said pulling him back, 'Maybe we should leave him for
a while?', Billie suggested.
'No, we should go now, you were the one, who agreed we go searching for him',
Mike reminded him.
The two boys crossed over and slowly walked up to their friend.
'How long have you been watching me?', Tre asked them.
'We weren't watching you, we were looking for you', Mike told him.
'Yeah, did you forget about the show we're going to tonight', Billie asked
him.
'No I didn't forget', Tre told them.
'Well what about all the jam sessions you've missed?', Mike asked.
'Yeah, well, I didn't think I could play', Tre told them.
'Tre you can, you just have to let go of her', Mike told him.
'I have', Tre replied.
'NO you haven't, if you had, you wouldn't be here right now', Billie told him
sternly.
'Billie, I'm not here for her', Tre told him.
'Then why are you here?', Billie asked for a response. Tre looked down at the
ground. He knew his friends were right.
'Listen, mate your not okay', Mike told him.
'No I am', Tre replied, with a tone.
'No your not. Tre, you've been smoking this shit, day after day and drinking
yourself to sleep. That's noway to live man', Billie told him, taking the
joint from Tre's mouth and stepping it out on the ground. Tre knew that they were
right. This was no way to live.
'Come on, we got the concert to go to', Billie said, waving the tickets
infront of Tre. He smiled, and then the three boys walked off down to the venue.
-THE VENUE-
They had arrived much later than they had expected.
'Made me cry, tears when you hurt me,
Made me feel sick with all this pain
Tried to mess around with my mind
And in my head play your own little game
The Band on stage started rocking it out like AC/DC. They were amazing. It
was unusual that there was an all girl band playing at an underground gig. By
the time the boys had gotten close enough to the stage to see them, they had
been taken off, but not quick enough for Tre not to have noticed their guitarist,
oh no, he had seen her and he liked what he saw...
