Breaking up The Band, chapter 14

*Billie's POV*

"We're here! Cameron, Minnesota!" The driver called as the bus screeched to a halt in front of a shabby looking club. "You're playing for two nights, and they're setting up about..." he checked his watch, "now. Go get your instruments, I'll wait for you inside."

The driver stepped out and Tre, Mike, and even Adie stepped off of the bus, but Lia remained rooted to the spot.

"You coming?" I asked.

She shook her head and flopped down on Mike's bunk. "I'll stay in here again."

I shrugged and stepped out the bus so I could find Blue. I knew something was wrong with Lia, but I'd just have to find out later. Honestly, women...

----

*Lia's POV*

I was still sitting in Mike's bunk, still looking miserable. I didn't really know what was wrong with me... I stared at the lumpy mattress above. I supposed it was Tre's. It was dirty and smelled musty. I couldn't understand how the hell he dealt with it.

I feel sort of homesick. I miss Berkeley, and not being on this tourbus, and not having to sleep in a damned corner next to a door. Memories rushed back to me from a long time ago. I missed my apartment with the hip-hop loving maniacs upstairs that would blast old Run D.M.C. records. I missed my stupid old phone, I missed the hobo on the street corner that would beg me for booze every day... well, sort of.

"Home," I muttered, "I think I'll find a way to get home."

And smiling to myself, looking at the bus door, I knew what to do.

----

*Billie's POV*

Mike, Tre, Adie, and I were sitting around a table in the club for some well deserved rest after setting up all our own equipment because we weren't able to hire a crew for this tour. But I couldn't focus on relaxing for now, Lia kept on drifting back to me. What the hell was her problem? Why was she so miserable?

He stood up in his seat. "I'm going to go get my guitar pick," he said.

"But Billie, you don't need-"

But before Mike could finish his sentence, Billie was out the door.

He walked across the parking lot to the bookmobile. He could immediately tell something wasn't right. The door was wrenched open.

Peering inside, he called her name, "Lia? Hey, Lia? You there?"

He looked wildly around, then stepped in. The room was completely empty, save for a note on Mike's bed.
