Breaking up The Band, chapter 15
Wandering over to the note, he silently picked it up and plopped down on the bed. Billie Joe began to read.
Billie and everyone else, it read. I'm going back to my apartment. I dunno why, I just... want to go back... I think I'll come back when I feel like it... I dunno what to say, I just can't go on tour anymore. So I've decided to castaway. I don't know where I'm going at all, I'm just going to destination unknown... You know, going at it alone? I hope Adie stays on tour with you guys, and you have a great time for the remaining part of it.

Billie Joe sat there, staring at the note. He couldn't believe his eyes. Suddenly the door burst open to the bus. It was Mike. He quickly shoved the note under the mattress. "So, did you find your guitar pick?" Mike asked curiously. "Where'd Lia go?"
"Somewhere... I dunno. She left," Billie Joe said, sitting up. "C'mon, let's warm up..." And in the back of his mind as they walked out, Billie knew he'd probably never see Lia again... Or, at least, not for a very, very long time.
