The Waiting UnKnown, chapter 3
When Jakob and Adrienne finally emerged, Joey had beaten all the levels in his game, Mike was asleep, head back on the chair, mouth open, and Tre and Joey were throwing candies that they had gotten from a vending machine at him, trying to get them in his mouth. Billie Joe was flipping mindlessly through a Readers Digest. Adrienne placed her half asleep youngest son in a chair and bent down to give her husband a kiss.
"Hey, how'd it go?" Billie asked, closing the magazine.
"Okay, I guess. We probably should head home soon. He's exhausted, and the nurse said he'd probably be kinda nauseous. Anything interesting happen out here?"
"Well sort of. This group of girls came up to get autographs, and I agreed, and then they started coming out of the woodwork, I swear to you. And this woman..she was arguing with the receptionist when we came in, remember?...anyhow, she got up on the chair and told them basically to fuck off, well, not in such colorful language." Billie said, standing up. "And we got to talking, and it turns out she's got a daughter whose going through chemo for a third time. She gave me her number incase we needed advice or something."
"Wow. Three times?" Adrienne said, looking at her baby boy and gulping. She was having a hard enough time this first time. "I can't even begin to imagine. Anyway, we really should go." Adie turned to her eldest son. "Joey, stop throwing candy at Mike, and get your stuff together."
"Two Points." Was Joey's only response, as he managed to land Reese's Pieces, in Mike's mouth. Tre high-fived the boy as the bassist woke up coughing.
"Joseph Marciano Armstrong, and Frank Edwin Wright. Stop throwing candies and come on." Billie yelled, knowing if he didn't stop Tre, then Joey would never stop either.
"Fine." Tre said, cringing at his real name.
"You guys, are as...absolute jack-asses." Mike said, getting up. Hugs and byes were exchanged then every one went their seperate ways.

In the car on the way home, Joey spoke up. "Mom, um, can two ladies like each other like a lady and a man?"
Great. Hardly old enough to get a sex talk, now Adrienne had to skip straight to the talk about gays and lesbians? She glared at her husband. Somehow she knew he or his friends were involved in this.
"Um, yeah. Two ladies can love each other like a lady and a man.Two men can love each like that too. Why do you want to know?"
" 'Cause this lady that dad Uncle Mike and Uncle Tre were talking to was holding hands with the mom of Tara, this girl I met, like you and dad do. And they called each other special names like Baby and hun, like you and dad do. "
"Um,sweetie, can we talk about this when we get home?" Adrienne said.
"Yeah."
Before the silence could get awkward, Jakob's voice was heard, weakly. "Um, Mommy, Daddy, can we stop soon. I think I'm gonna throw up."
"Of course." Billie Joe said, pulling over to the shoulder. Adrienne got out and got her son out, just barely making it away from the car. Billie Joe placed his elbow on the steering wheel, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his thumb and middle finger. He couldn't stand to see his youngest suffer like that.
