Angel's Lullaby (sequel to Where Do Broken Hearts go?), chapter 10
"Midnight moonlight shining on curtain lace...." I sang as I walked up the stairs, cradling the now two month old Riley in my arms. It was 8 o'clock and I was getting ready to put her to bed so that I could host Taylor's surprise baby shower. I pushed open the door to her room with my butt and left it open. She wouldn't hear all the commotion anyways, since the house was so big.
"Paints a perfect picture on your face...one sweet angel sleeping in my arms...you are the promise I knew God would keep...you are the gift that makes my world complete..." I heard a rustle in the doorway as I sang and looked up to see Billie Joe standing in the doorway looking in on Riley and I, with pride in his eyes. Joey and Jake were already tucked into their beds, sleeping soundly. I motioned for him to be quiet and he just smiled and nodded, watching as I finished the song.
"And you'll never know how much I love you...but I'll keep on telling you my whole life through...now I believe in miracles and you're the reason why...so dream on while I sing you my angel's lullaby...." I slowly placed Riley down into her crib and brushed back the dark hair from her forehead. Billie walked in and stood beside me. He knelt down and gave Riley a gentle kiss, then grabbed my hand and led me into the hallway, closing the door behind him.
"Come on." he said. "Mike just called, she'll be here any second." We scurried into the large living room and joined in with Tre and the rest of Taylor's friends and family. Just in the nick of time too, because just as we knelt down behind the couch and Tre took his post at the light switch, we heard Mike open up the door. Good thing Taylor was oblivious too because Mike decided to shout out.
"Here we are honey! At Billie and Charlie's." We saw Mike's silhouette first, then Taylor waddled in, and Tre hit the lights and everyone jumped up and shouted "SURPRISE!" Taylor screeched and did her best to run over to Billie and I and give us a hug.
"You guys rock." she said. The party was great. We played all sorts of cheesy baby shower games and then Taylor and Mike opened gifts. It was perfect, just the way I had always dreamed life would be. I walked over to Billie and gave him a hug and a long kiss. I thought of how wonderful he was, how wonderful my friends were, and how wonderful it would be in years to come, thanks to Joey and Jake and our newest angel Riley. Dreams really do come true.... I thought to myself....
